This is something that has been talked about on this site before many times. Life does not revolve around Kirbyville and where they are in the playoffs for everyone. It was discussed when W.T. left Newton and also at the first of this year. Saying the discussion somehow underminds what is happening at Kirbyville is ridiculous. Do you have that little faith in the cats program? Newton has been embarrassed worse in the playoffs before as Sealy once beat us 83 - 6. We will be back. What is being said is true. Defense the last two years has been horrible. We at Newton are proud of our history and should have every right to be speculating and discussing what has transpired this season. Saying any of this is disrespectful or wrong  at this time is incorrect. Now is the time to start the process.

Chapion Eagle you remember the weather that night of the game with Sealy at SHSU? Was a cold frigid night and really cold.

Memory lane, information is so readily available nowadays it is funny to remember, but my wife and I were talking last night about years ago we had been to a playoff game(again I believe we played in Huntsville) and was driving into the edge of Newton when a state trooper patrol lights hit us and stopped us. It was the now county Judge and his partner and all they wanted was to know who won the game! Times have changed.

I am from Kirbyville and I do hope that Newton gets the coach it deserves, It would be ashamed to have that traditon their broken down, and if it is to be with Johnston thats good I know he is a good coach our defense is definately better anyway and W. T. is a class act he will do his job at Kirbyville so I see no problem with talking about it. I think KVILLE has a class act of its own.

I totally agree. Kirbyville has set the bar the last few years for the entire Golden Triangle as to what a team should be. This is not luck, it is taught and expected from the top down, as it should be.

All I really remember was feeling shell shocked and a long, long drive home. I had never seen anyone beaten that badly. As for the respect thing, again I say this has nothing to do with disrespecting anyone. I totally agree with timlan2057. I think Coach Barbay would be one of the first to be saying look hard at all options now and make choices based on what is best for the Newton Eagles and no one else. I don't understand how anyone can say we are disrespecting anything or anyone. Coach Barbay will forever be Newton Eagle football. The playoffs? Whose playoffs, Newton's is over and this is only about next season and a new coach, not about anyone else. Its not about "coverage". You obviously did not know the man. His sons in the playoffs would be very important to him and a source of immense pride as a father, but stop Newton Eagle football, no way.

6. Simply put, some of the greatest times of my life. Playing the game as a youngster(including wearing purple pants with a white Indian stripe down the leg even though we were Eagles, lol), watching my daughters become cheerleaders and then watching my son play and excel for two of the same coaches I played for, all in winning tradition that began when I played. Gives me goose bumps now just thinking about how lucky I am.

Should he even apply? I mean if Newton hires anyone other than "WT" there's no way they could be successful, right???

You seem to be a wolf in sheeps clothing. Feigning to not know anything, then wanting to give an opinion based on something and seeking acknowledgment of being correct. W.T. has given many dedicated years to Newton and is a heck of a coach. Everyone thinks his going to Kirbyville was the first time he has left. Wrong. This has nothing to do with his coaching ability. Newton needs the best coach available FOR THEIR PROGRAM. The football program at Newton is firmly established and proven and IMO just needs a little tweeking. The last thing we need is to hire a coach that don't fully understand that. The kids need someone they can respect and play for. W.T. could be that man.
8. I would think Bryan would be interested but it would be hard for him to leave a 3A school he has brought to the playoffs for a couple years now and has gotten a winning tradition going there. I think the job should be looked at by those in Newton as an opportunity to get input from some young up and coming guys from across the state. Newton is small but should generate some interest from some really good coaches based on the history and tradition established by Coach Barbay. W.T. would be a good choice if some of the present coaches that have not performed were replaced. This is small town politics as well as hiring a coach. Enthusiasm and the belief in we can win need shoring up. Jimmy Johnson was right about a team has got to have that little bit of swagger in their step to be winners. Newton has not had that in a couple years.

It's been a tough year for Newton, but they still made the playoffs - once you're there it's a new season.  While I do believe Anahuac & EC were better this year, I still think that our district play promotes better play in the playoffs (that's if you don't have to play K'ville again...2 yrs in a row!).  Looking at Cameron's district along with Crockett's district, it appears they haven't had to play anybody in a long time and I think it's to our advantage.  That doesn't necessarily mean we will win our games Friday night, but I think this will be the stiffest competition both of these teams have faced since preseason, and don't forget they're coming off bye week's as well!  Seems like our district has been in playoff mode since about week 5 and nothing would make me happier than to see AP, Newton & EC advance to the next round.  Good luck 10AA Div. I!!!!!!!

Well said. One of the toughest districts in the state. Good luck to all three teams!

Sorry but yoe takes this one. Thet just droped down from 3a and have been killin people all year.

Go do a little history check. Newton has played Cameron Yoe more than once in the past. Lost one game on the old tie breaker rule of tied on score, tied on penetrations, and Cameron Yoe advanced in playoffs on having one more first down. Cameron Yoe lost the next time as Newton advanced. That's two I can remember and may be more. Newton is capable. Should be good game. Newton takes the win.

Welcome back. What a nice stage left entry, "just in time for the playoffs". Almost sounds contrived, almost! ;D

My wife watches a lot of TV shows that convict on less evidence! :D :D :D
13. He's better than his brother no doubt at this stage. If he can hook up with a quarterback at Texas like his brother did, big things should be in store for him. Right now everyone at Austin is not only down on the team, but the coaches as well. I argued with my son this weekend out there about Greg Davis and the whole coaching thing. Ifs can kill you. If Colt had not been hurt last year, if receivers catch balls they have dropped this year would Gilbert be throwing all those ints now. The future is always full of ifs. Shipley kid is a good one, hope his college days are great ones.
