Once again I will say your making a mountain out of a mole hill. He did not name any names or positions or coaches. I'm not saying he was right in saying what he said, but he also should not be thrown under the bus by you or anyone else from Burkeville. You've had your feelings hurt. I can tell you first hand that your not the first. He has achieved the success he has by not coddling anyone or their feelings. If your not up to par he will tell you in no uncertain terms. This is not only the way he coaches, but the way he speaks in public. Good or bad. He has proven himself to be able to take average athletes and make good athletes out of them. He has also shown he can take good athletes and make great athletes out of them. Maybe Burkeville's program could learn a thing or two from him currently.

You are entitled to your opinion. I don't quite think facts will back you up on some of your statements. Coach Harper has been a very fine coach at Burkeville, but to say Burkeville's program has out shined Newton and all other area programs is more than a bit of a stretch. Barbay is far from the Henry Kissinger of high school coaches, but says what he thinks, and this is not anything new.

Yea, yea, yea. That's the only reason we have those state championship trophies, Burkeville kids.

Typical rankings experts. They have Newton ranked third in 2A with a record of 1-0. Newton hasn't even played a game yet. :D

Now I will take up for Roy Harper. He has two state championships under his belt at Burkeville and I would call that more than mild success. He also is a class guy that has always been respected in Newton. He built many winning teams in Burkeville.

They are tough no doubt, but it is a long time until the state title game. Many, many things can happen in that time including Newton or them not making it to that game. I'm going to reserve making any kind of prediction until that week.

The road there is always fun.

The QB is unproven to say the least. He has yet to face any kind of leadership test in a game. To even compare him to Flanagan at this point is idiotic. Give him until district play to see how he molds this Eagle squad into his own. I think this offense will be exciting, as usual. Defense is another story. All the talk about Flanagan, does anyone remember the game winning drive in the all star game? Not bad for a 2A QB.

The man deserves it. Not only does he have family by blood, he has an unbelievably large family of people that he has been like a father to. It will be a very sad day for Newton football when it happens, but a great time for him to be a proud father and grandfather. :)

Coldspring will scrimmage Newton at Newton starting at 5pm this evening. The first of the Barbay vs Barbay matchups of the year. Should be a good outing for both squads.

It would be great if SETX had a Barbay legacy that began in Newton. The real x-factor is Mona. Darrell and Bryans mother, you talk about a lady that cannot stand to lose!! Curtis tends to take it stride, not Mona. She hates everything about being beat! lol! :D Maybe with genes from both sides the Barbays will continue to be a winning tradition in SETX for many years to come.

No he's not even close, something like 314. He's 68. It would be tough to get to 400. Coach Thompson came back this year, again, and he must be like 73 or so. I think they will both keep going long as they want to, but 400 is a magical number that will be hard to catch.

We done it in '98 in 3A, now its time in 2A!
