Easy there orange bleed. Your taking wild shots that can't be substantiated. Purpleeagle should not have put that weasel post in, but don't go off the deep end with wild accusations. SATs, give me some numbers that can be verified, or is this something "that everyone knows" as the old line goes. Just because you can beat somebody 99-0 still don't mean you should. If that was the case Orangefield could have been on that 0 end many times playing against Newton.

If it was a true veer offense the QB basically was a running back. According to play being called inside or outside, he always had the option to run.

If I remember right, that win made the national news with video, including the celebration after the kick.

Ted Tate and his Kountze Lions beat Newton 66-6 in 1969. Thank God Newton did not change coaches and won state in 1974 with the same staff. Curtis Barbay lost to Sealy 83-6 in a playoff game and it was hard to sit and watch, but sometimes these things make you stronger. Kountze went on a memorable losing spree after this, maybe they should have stayed the course with the coach, who knows. It's always easy to look back and say what should have happened. Orangefield did not make the playoffs that year was interesting part of story IMO.

Easy rykerx. I can tell you from personal experience if it is him you will never make heads or tales from all of his pms and rantings including threats to meet you and beat you up at recess. lol I personally think he has some kind of problem that doesn't allow any kind of rational thought.  :)

Some of the posters from Kirbyville seem to think any kind of disagreement with their view is in some way dissing their cats. They then tend to become over reactive and spew all kinds of vehement writings that show no respect for anyone. What do they then expect people to do, show them love for making these statements? Kirbyville has come from a laugher on schools schedules to a very good team. They still are not indestructible, just as no teams are(they have found this out in the playoffs). Accept this, show some respect to other opinions and still be proud of what Kirbyville is doing on the field.

Now this is a matchup I must admit I didn't expect - Kirbyville vs Kirbyville! My pick is Kirbyville, winning late in the game! Go Cats! :D

Newton being ranked 2nd in D1 is great, but does not mean great things for the season. Wait until wk10 or later and then people will know what kind of playoff season to expect. Newton has been here before and everything panned out great. They have also been here and the wheels came off. It's exciting time of the year and will only get better with the start of play. Looking forward to possible great year. Defensive play, I think, will be the key to a good year.

The wing-t and it's many variations have been good to Newton over the years. Talent at the 2A and 3A class make it an offense that can work if ran correctly. Add some passes off the same sets and it can get the job done. But, defense, IMO, as always wins titles.

I don't think too many people "rag on the cats" as you say. I think a few individuals with Kirbyville ties post things about the cats and their program that are totally ridiculous and get things stirred up. Tradition is not built in a year or even two, but over time. I respect the Kirbyville program and the direction it seems to be heading, but saying such things as three band members make them 3A is not something that I can accept as reasonable. The game with Jasper is going to be a great contest this year. It should really give both programs a bench mark as to where they are and should be the best match up in that district's title race. I have to give a slight edge to the bulldogs.

Making excuses is not helping the team you claim to defend. Those three extra could just as well been football players, FFA, FHA, or in the auto mechanics. The numbers are not gathered or classified that way. Regardless of what you think, everything is not stacked against the cats program. 3A under the umbrella of a 2A, what does that even mean?

I just read about the Jasper School District discussing possible plans to renovate several facilities and construct some new ones. In the proposal are plans for a new 6500 seat field with turf to be constructed by the high school. I don't think this is a done deal, just being talked about by the board. Also included is a 60 acre indoor practice facility.
