every year without fail a little meaningless dog decides to jump off of the porch and nip at the big dogs feet... dont get me wrong, these little fellas sound FEROCIOUS  :-[ but like recent history has told us their bark doesnt match their bite.

as with many of these big talkers, when its all said and done theres normally more said than done..
However some of these "little meaningless dogs" as you so crudely put it,Are in reality PIT BULLS in Chihuahua Suits.. ;D And your attempt for intelligent humor has failed dismally... :D
And "failing dismally" is something Kirbyville knows about after the last two years. See, now that is crude. No where in his post did he specifically say "Kirbyville", yet he is characterized as being things that are not necessarily true. I thought it was kinda funny, but because to me it is a 3a to a 2a and the same thing could be said by a 4a about a 3a and so on. ;D

And "home grown refs" are supposed to make those calls! Give it a rest.
I guess you have personal issues with the wildcats. i really do not care. I call i see it. WOS did have their star players on the field they almost got beat so ref. had to call it in favor of wos. pics and video do not lie. our player broke the plain and called it favor for wos. But we will see if this game will be called fair for both sides. maybe ???
And Kirbyville has never been the beneficiary of a favorable call at a critical time during a game. Kirbyville has only been on the losing side of all bad calls made in every game they have ever played. Get over it. Next will be bad calls was the reason for no state titles! Quit whining. My "personal issues" are poor sports. If the shoe fits, wear it.

I dont believe it will backfire...I think you may see smaller crowds on Thur and Fri. morning but can you imagine the crowds Friday night and Saturday? UIL will make a KILLING
In other words your ok with killing 1a and 2a as long as the bigger schools get the recognition? That's pretty shortsighted in my opinion. Your making second class citizens out of schools that are just smaller. Do you think the players and fans are any less excited about a state title game? Your reply implies this.
I'm not saying I agree or disagree but I'm looking at it from the UIL standpoint. They are going to make quite a bit of money off this deal.
Oh, OK. I misunderstood. I thought it was about money only. So it's still alright to shove 1A and 2A aside because they're really not important and have nothing to do with Texas high school football. Why not just cancel those classes of games and just think of the money the UIL could save.

  5. Once again the UIL is completely out of touch with reality. I agree that it gives the DFW area more home field advantages, but it also does not take into consideration anything about the cost involved for either teams or fans. Playing games that early in the morning is ridiculous. In 1998 Newton played Daingerfield in Nacogdoches for the state title. This allowed a lot of fans from both schools to attend as the drive for neither was very long. Why is a single site so important?
  6. 6 D1 recruits could bring just about anyone's program up even after losing a number of seniors. I can tell you from watching the last two years when Newton played them, they have a high quality core of kids playing in important positions returning. QB, LB, receiver, DT. Plus the coach (and he is a good one) and a system the kids have been in a while and understand very well and excel in running it. Plus they are the defending two time state champions until they lose that crown in the playoffs this year. I would think they deserve to be ranked very high when the fall comes.
  7. LMAO! I was just messin' with you old_wildcat. We've discussed this before and this article appeared and I just couldn't help myself. Lots of things can happen before this fall, but you have to admire (not fear)a coach and program that is 30-2 in the last two years. I hope Newton gets another chance at them this year. Playing a high caliber team such as Daingerfield does nothing but help.
  8. There were lots of winning seasons in those 23 years, but it took that long for the title. Instant gratification is the norm nowadays. If that is what is expected anywhere there will be more disappointment than satisfaction. PNG turned a corner this past season, but still no title. Kirbyville is waaaay better than ten years ago and still no title. That does not mean either of those programs are ready for another coaching change if you ask the fans I bet. The future can be bright for Warren, or can be marred with unrealistic expectations.

His qualifications during and since college are impressive. The years he put in on the sidelines at Newton as a "ball boy" probably puts him way ahead of many coaches as to witnessing up close what it takes to win football games. He done it for a long time and was around an awful lot of talented players and coaches. But a Head coach/Athletic Director requires a lot of understanding the business side of High School sports. If the people of Warren get behind him and give him a chance, he will do a good job. Barbays are not "gods", but have proven they know about how to build winning football programs. I think Warren has a bright future, given time.
There is a lot of football experience in his 27 years. Give him a chance. It took his uncle from 1975 until 1998 to win his first state title as a head coach.

  11. That clears that up. It puts your kinfolk in the same boat as you and I with Kirbyville and Newton. We're not in the coaching ranks for either team and I bet neither are your kinfolk with Daingerfield. Being in 2A there is no spring practice to evaluate talent and it has to be left to practice at the end of summer. Can't even call 'em two-a-days in Newton anymore. Haven't had those in years. That's lots of time for kids to mature as well as grow physically. There are systems at all three schools that take athletes and make better athletes and no way am I going to agree that a two time defending state champion system is going to decline as a "known fact". They obviously lost seniors both years preceding their titles and their coaches were able to replace what they lost. Can they do it again? All I know is they are the Champions until playoff time this fall.

Does the school and town name Marlin ring any bells? Newton fans should know the name well. Before you go talking trash about what Newton does you should know the history. Daingerfield has a program that is hitting on all cylinders currently and I don't think you can boast Newton doing anything to derail that program. I'm a loyal Newton fan and hope I'm wrong about that. Newton has a storied program that I'm real proud of, but so does Daingerfield. In my opinion you should respect your competition for what they are. Notice I said "respect" not fear. Daingerfield can be beaten, but it will have to be done on the field and not in some talk shop.
I agree with what you say it has to be done on the field,But the purpose of these "talk shops" are to compare teams ...I think Newton has an excellent chance to beat Daingerfield this year...First you have to get there...(long time till then) Lot's of things can happen injuries, grades, losing when you shouldn't..just to name a few...Daingerfield lost a lot of players,They will not be the team they were last year, this is a known fact...I think it's time for Newton to bring the 2A state championship back to Southeast Texas (and I think they will)..East Texas has had it long enough...JMO

"Known" by who? Did anyone in this area see their Jr. Varsity play? How many of their underclassmen that were on varsity and didn't start are going to get their chance this year. Their winning of two championships in a row says a lot about their program as well as talent. I don't think you can dismiss their chances and team as easily as that. Until someone knocks them off, they are the champions. And "compare teams" by whom? Most posters on these boards(including myself) have nothing to back up their claims of expertise but a lot of coffee stains on their teeth. I have years and years worth of playing, watching, and loving the game of football, but really have no qualifications such as Head Coach of a state title football program and I can surmise neither do most posters. Making the kind of statements that do not take in any knowledge what so ever of the other areas of the state are truly just wishful dreams.

Newton has alot of talent and it is overlooked alot of the time by fbs school's, alot of the southeast texas area gets overlooked alot. For example Toddrick pendland RB for Newton in 2005, he went to Mcneese because lots of FBS schools where overlooking him . He is now a two time All american in the FCS and he is projected to go in the second round of this coming up NFL draft. Another player that was overlooked was Bryran Smith DE for Newton 2003 he went to Mcneese for the same sort of reasons, he was also a two time all american and he holds the sack record for most sacks in a game and in a Season. He was later drafted in the fourth round of the NFL draft by Philly and was later traded to the Cleveland browns. These are just a few that never made a recruiting list and were never showed any attention by FBS schools.  Don't get me wrong SETX is finally getting a little respect from the FBS with players like Earl Thomas(Texas) Christine Michael (Texas A&M) Deon Beasly(Texas) Jamal Charles(Texas)(Kansas City) Shawn Witherspoon(Mizo) just to name a few. They have opened the door for other SETX kids to Finally get noticed.

Actually, Bryan was drafted in the third round by Philly in the 2008 draft. He was cut at the end of training camp this past season and signed with St. Louis on the practice squad for a short time before signing with Jacksonville. He wound up on injured reserve with a shoulder injury at the end of the season. He had just been named a starter at outside linebacker before the injury.
  15. Did I name Kirbyville in that statement? No. Have I called Kirbyville a loser in respect to their program? No. I do not find hilarity in losing. Here we go again with putting things in my mouth I haven't said. The definition of stupid is doing the same thing that has failed over and over expecting different results. The fact is Kirbyville has lost two years in a row in the state title game. This does not make them a loser or their coaches stupid. Newton has lost two years in a row to a team running a certain offense, as has Kirbyville. Does this make them losers as programs? No. I, as a fan, do not want them to be stupid. I don't walk the sidelines and never have. Does this make me stupid about the game? No. Do I think there are other ways of doing things? Yes. Coaches in general think that fans have nothing to offer them and therefore can not contribute. So my manhood(kahuna's) are called into play. The thing about paying taxes. If people like me did not pay their taxes, there would be no coaches. If there were no fans, same thing, no coaches. I've not called for the hanging of any coach or his program, I simply say there are things out there that need to be addressed differently. Do I think this discussion on this forum is going to get it done. No. Do I think it should be discussed on a forum such as this. Yes. It's not brain surgery.
  16. I'm not calling any team a loser. I am and have been simply saying that if something stops a team from winning, that team should realistically look at what stopped it and how to not let that happen again. Everyone has their opinion on what stopped Newton and what stopped Kirbyville for the last two years. I personally think the offenses ran elsewhere in the state have a lot to do with why there are no state champions in the golden triangle area in the last four years. This seems to offend a lot of people and make them attack me personally. That don't change the fact that there are no state champions in any classification. Do we have inferior athletes, coaches, stadiums, or fans? I think not. But I get those very things put in my mouth by other people that interpret any kind of discussion as a slam at some particular group, ie athlete, coach, stadium, or fan. I can guarantee if any team makes it out of this area in the playoffs, they are going to see this offense. Is it unbeatable, no. Do other teams have better athletes? Sometimes, but better athletes can be beaten by better schemes, sometimes. Do good coaches hide their heads in the ground and give up just because the other team has better athletes? I think Kirbyville has proven that to not be the case the last few years. They have had a lot of good athletes but have beaten teams with more athletes because of schemes of play. I simply think there is room for one more step. This is my opinion.
