D-field coach quoted after game saying "well we haven't played anyone good yet..."
Just to be clear.... Coach Bowman did not say that and would never say that...  Buc, I know you are just joking about what Coach Barbay has said in the past, but I don't want someone to get the wrong idea.  Bowman is not like that.

Both teams played with class and respect.  Clean game for the most part.  Good season Eagles.. Nothing to be ashamed of.  Daingerfield is good.  Real good.  I am very proud of the Tigers.

As you should be. Daingerfield is a very well coached and talented team. I was sure your coach had not said anything like what Buttof2010 said he said. Good luck the rest of the year and I hope ya'll bring another state champion trophy to Daingerfield.
  2. I've been gone awhile, come back and all Heck has broke loose. This game is what Texas high school football is all about. They make movies about these kinds of games. Two programs with storied histories that face one another with the loser going home. It don't get any better. Throw the stats out the window along with all that has happened up to this point, because it don't matter. Saturday, regardless of what happens, will be written into these great programs history, just as what all has preceded is. Wear your school colors, bring your blankets and get ready for some more history. Good luck Daingerfield and Newton. The Earth will still be turning on it's axis Sunday morning.
  3. Good post. I don't think we have given the keys to the castle to anyone. If the team that played Silsbee or Kirbyville shows up, we will be OK. Lots of people on here (including some from Newton) never played for Barbay and do not know how up front he is in what he thinks. Hotrodg was right in that Barbay will tell you when other teams are better. He will also tell you when your not very good or not doing your job. He will also try to beat your butt. And has been quite successful with this philosophy. Post what you want, I may not agree all the time, but I won't condemn you for it. And now I'm headed to Beaumont to visit the Kirbyville Wildcats #1 fan that is in the hospital. He does live in Newton county though!
  4. I appreciate the thought. I just don't feel like I have to justify anything to the outside world when it comes to the Eagles. They don't have a bigger fan in the stands than me. But really, it's just a game played by high school kids. Who knows what is going to happen. I'm always positive with my cheering in the stands at the games. That's all I can do.
  5. I found it. I don't really care what they say. I have been involved with Newton way too long to be worried about what anybody else says. I've seen the good and the bad. I'm not very confident in this years team as I've stated. It's been a long time since I've seen a Newton team hang their heads like they did last week. And I had nothing to do with that. I don't think our defense has a clue as to what they are doing and our tackling makes me think I could run the ball on them. Someone else can make all the conclusions they want about us being scared or whatever. Daingerfield will bring their team and Newton will bring their team. I've seen really good teams go home a loser. On Saturday we will see.

Some of the Newton players I talked to yesterday acted a little worried about Dfield, acting like they were not sure if they would win or not. That really worries me because Newton teams in the past allways played with alot of confidence. My msg to the players is not to worry about saturday, play Newton football and have fun.

P.S. Play every game like its the last football game u will ever play, Leave it all on the field. I never live in regret.
Why don't You do the Eagles a favor and not post anything that the You hear from the Players on an open forum, For The Whole World To Read. Whose side are You on?
Newtonjb..I may be butting in,but I don't think he mean it that way...I think JC is just concerned that all the hype about the game is having affect on the players,And some time it can...But if I know Coach Barbay,He's fought way to many battles and is too smart to let that beat them..Come Game Day Newton will be ready..I'd almost bet the farm on it...JMO..

                                                         "GO EAGLES"
My Concern is for the players reading the things that they have said, to a fan, showing up in one of these posts. They need to feel comfortable that what they say won't come back to haunt them online, otherwise they may decide not to trust us enough to talk at all.

I tend to think that the truth can motivate as well. I hope they do read some of this and it boils their blood. They need to come out motivated and play motivated the entire game. These guys aren't first graders that do not need to be told about Santa. I've found that if you speak truthfully and earnestly that teenagers tend to respect you more than beating around the bush and treating them like little kids. There's always exceptions. By the way, old wildcat none of this is aimed at you.
  7. People seem to think that if you in any way question what you see, that your not a true blue fan. I have witnessed and participated in many, many seasons of Newton Eagle football, including the turn around from perennial doormats to multiple state champions. I was surprised last year at the way Newton got after Daingerfield and it was one of the most memorable games we have played in a while. Newtonjb needs to back off and leave Jcmeek83 alone. It is his opinion. People think that the entire world runs to read every post on this site. They don't. And even if they did, if their confidence is that thin to be affected by an open forum, they have a lot deeper problems than what someone has posted. I've posted my thoughts along the very same line more than once. It's opinions and everyone has one, including Jcmeek83, Newtonjb, and me. I've also witnessed Barbay teams accomplish a lot, but I have also seen Barbay teams bite the big one and fold like a dixie cup. Barbay is a good coach, but not a god.
  8. Body language last Friday at half time said the team was beaten. Heads were hung, walking, no hustle. I've said all year this team is hard to read. They came out in the second half and played like they should have and won. Newton teams in the past have had that little swagger in their walk that said "I'm good", I don't see it with this team. I don't think Daingerfield will give them a second chance. If they can't get up for this game, maybe they shouldn't be here. I know this is blasphemous to state this as a Newton fan, but I have thought this for a long time. They give up easily. You can't just hope your going to win, you have to know your going to win. That was the difference between the Newton team and the Kirbyville team in this years game. Now is the time. No tomorrows. I would love for them to prove me wrong. I'll be in the stands on Saturday to see.
  9. Southeast Texas has Kirbyville & Newton left in the playoffs. Kirbyville has already overachieved (they were the underdog) with the win against Arp and now it is Newton's turn against Daingerfield. Rankings do not guarantee wins. There are always unexpected results in the march to the state title. There has to be plenty of red and black along with purple and white in the golden triangle. Come show your colors at this week's games. Get behind these two programs the rest of the way and enjoy the remainder of the '09 season in high school football! There are four teams left in D1 and eight teams left in D2. That's twelve teams total in 2A and 2 of those are from District 22. Not bad. Go Wildcats and go Eagles!

Keep flapping your lips about ec. Daingerfield is going to kick all the purple off newton and I will be there laughing.  Good luck d field.
EC has never been able to accept the honest truth. They brag about all those trips to the playoffs and say nothing about all those losses in the playoffs. They used to blame Mart, now it is Newton, and we didn't even play them in the playoffs this year. Last years smokin' was plenty to back up any statement about their program. Win something and all this blame stuff will stop. The only blame needs to be aimed in house before you go to torching everyone else. Daingerfield will be tuff. Newton's helter skelter defense and poor tackling will be the key to winning. Improve both and Newton will have a chance, don't and it is going to be a loooong night. Keep Daingerfield's points below 35 and Newton stands a chance on offensive power alone.
    Newton 39
    Daingerfield 32

I was at the game, on DF's side, and basketballs were thrown on to the field.
I agree, it would not make sense in the State Championship game. It was over for both teams. This is folklore, like giant alligators living in the sewers in New York City. There had never been basketballs thrown on the field in any Newton game before or since last year at Carthage. Daingerfield fans are not all accused and therefore are not all guilty of this offense, but a few Daingerfield fans saying Newton fans started it in '98 is not justification for doing it and it is not true. The truth is there were basketballs thrown on the field in Carthage. Calling the ones guilty punks don't help, but if they were dealt with by Daingerfield, end of story. Come to the game, cheer, scream, whistle, and enjoy the game for both clubs and towns.
