Burke has discipline. Just because he gets along with the kids and has fun doesn't mean he has no discipline. Why do you think they enjoy him and want to work for him ?? You don't have to be a jerk to have a successful football team. Burke is a people person. Very good personality. But don't think he won't make you do 200 yards of bellyflops for disrespect. To be respected - you have to give respect. These kids want someone who cares just as much about them and the Beat program as they do. These internet guru's probably never played a down of football but make heck of a Saturday morning quarterback criticizing everyone who is actually in the trenches.

Great Post Larry!!!! Coach Burke may not have all the "qualifications" like others but I know he will give 100% and wants to do the best for the LCM community!!! The kids respect him, parents respect him too. Not sure what offense he ran at the middle school but whatever it was -- the Panthers won or at least were very competitive. And that's what it takes. You can't be stubborn and say this is the only offense I am going to run. That gets you an 0-8 record. You got to capitalize on your kids strengths. We are a young Bear team that if all the kids come back out -- we could be a force to deal with in 20-4A football. Coach Burke is a good, hard working, respectable man that deserves a fair shot like the others applying. I can promise you -- those at the high school right now -- know who he is and know the kids want him. Heard his family is getting calls from parents and players asking him to applying. Says a lot in this community.

SETXASFAN -- That is crazy!! Moody wasn't sucessful in the head coaching position. I know Eulis Trinity and their accomplishments. It was thier head coach - not Moody. He was there -- but from seeing what I saw -- it wasn't becasue of him. Enough on that -- he is gone. I sat very close to the press box dear friend. Closer than you think.... I know what coaches cared and which ones didn't. I remember playing Vidor this year -- had a player for us go down -- Pachuca and Matthews were on the field with the Bear player down -- looking at our coaches. I am sorry -- I know it was miserable this year but come on...... I do not mean all coaches shared TM's attitude. But stand up for yourself and the kids. I am all for cleaning house -- think we need it. I would like to see someone come in, turn it around and if the chips are in -- don't throw in the towel. Keep trucking along and dig down deep -- Whoever comes in -- needs to bring back BEAR PRIDE. Be proud to be a Bear!!!!

SETXASFAN - I was talking about the competiveness, coaches attitude and the whole thing in general. People didn't leave at the begininng of 3rd quarter. Those kids wanted to play. Their coaches wanted to be there. The fans were into the game. That should be happening on Friday night. Kids fired up to be a Bear. Coaches fired up to be out there coaching in 20-4A football.
-
Just trying to put in perspective Roughrider. I got a bone in this fight. I want my Bears to become competive again. I want those kids to gear up and come ready to give 200% Friday night instead of feeling like they are just going to get killed before they hit the field. We got a AD with a "quality" background as Bellison said. Don't knock those JR. high coaches -- some of their games were way better than our Friday night games!!!
-
Hey -- when you are the laughing joke of every game you play -- you want someone who cares, wants to be there and will give 100%. Moody could have cared less this year. The kids knew, fans knew it. I want someone who will get in there and make the kids bust their butt, Football is not for pansies!! Make them respect all aspects of the game. We don't need a yes man for the higher ups. I am one for someone who is there for the kids. Burke, Bolton, Theriot, Long are all good choices. Some of these names have been head caoches and were winnless..... It's about the kids and who they respect. They can make or break you. Ask Moody -- you should have seen the kids in the stands who would NOT play for him. Granted - they should be playing for the love of the game but there comes a point to where enough craziness is enough. I hate the saying that he kept saying "We are a younger team." duhhh -- Your juniors and seniors did not want to play for him.
-
I agree Setxasfan but I guess I am a little old school in thinking that -- we are in a deep hole.... why not promote from within?? Especially since the kids are wanting it and Burke wants it too. That is a problem at LCM - loyalty. I am not sure he has been there but I know he replaced Sam Moore --- but I think he deserves a fair shot. I agree - LCM should explore all options. But we need someone who is willing to stay for a while. Not someone who is looking for a stepping stone. Some of those guys move a lot.

I agree completely that there are difference between middle school and high school but wasn't Moody a high school coach??? Not knocking you setxsfan -- I think we can't count anyone out because they were not a varsity coach or coordinator. At this point in the Bear Program, i say give him a shot!! We are at our lowest point. He cares about the kids, knows the kids and the kids want to play for him. Plus he wants the job !

I know he applying. I talked to him yesterday. Watched lots of kids go talk to him from High School asking if he would come up there. During football season, several Varsity kids were asking the same thing. He loves the game, kids and community. I agree -- they should give him a shot. Heard some kids were thinking of going to Super to let her know who they wanted.

AMEN 77!!!!!!!!!! I remember when Moody came on board -- he made a big deal about starting at the Jr. highs. Nothing has happen. I love the idea of a High school coach coming down and showing the boys some attention. It all starts at jr. high. Get them hooked and they will love it and want to play for the coaches and have a sense of team pride. Be proud to be a Panther, Cub & Bear. Right now, there is little pride. Guess that is why we are so sensitive about our undefeated season. We got a lot of PANTHER PRIDE. I too haven't miss too many Friday night whippings in the past 13 years. It is tough when you know we got talent. :-\ -

I get what your saying 77. People in Mauriceville are sensitive at times because of the backlash they get plus the feeling of not belonging. Seems everyone wants to find fault with the winning. We are proud of our kids -- none of the games were easy. If you were at the game, you could tell they were evenly matched games for the most part. Now, beating someone 24-0 -- of course they were not good. I can remember going to St. Anne's in years past and thinking we were playing Kelly's JV or Varsity. All schools go thru spurts when you have athletes and when you run into dry spells. I think LCM's problems run deeper than who the Jr. highs are playing or who they are not. I know Dan Hook's attends the junior high games at WOSMS. I think the kids need to know the coaches at High school believe in them and want them to play. Your athletic director should be interested and SHOW IT to the jr.high kids because that is his future team. LCM has GREAT potential at both jr. highs but something gets lost in those 9th and 10th grade years. Granted -- every school has issues but LCM's are kicking us in the butt. It has got to change!!!!!!!!! -

Thanks again stickinthemud. Doesn't sound like your a fan of the Panthers???!!! Come on!! Be happy :) :) :) :) Not being ugly -- but how did LCJH fair this year?? Both teams if you know - How many kids played on each team?? Just trying to figure out what we will be sending the high school....... Surely between our 2 schools, we have talent and kids who will bring the Bears out of the Cave!!!!!!!!!!! -

Thanks for the clarification stickinthemud. But LC 7th grade lost to St.Anne's. Mauriceville 7th grade played them 2x and I am certain they won one against the wildcats. Really doesn't matter who you play -- it all depends on who shows up to play !!! We have all been to games where the for sure winner got beat because the other team wanted it more or just out played them!!! I do know Mauriceville 7th grade played Chester (which only had about 17 kids) and got beat. Never underestimate those smaller schools. It's all about the heart in those kids and what they want. -

I hear you 77!!! But LC played St. Anne's this year and lost big while Mauriceville won BIG. Competition is different at jr. high levels. That is agreed. MMS is one of the smallest middle schools in the 4A district. They have about 24-28 kids play in 8th grade sometimes less. Playing against CO, PN or Groves jr. high may teach competition but -- getting beat every week sure is tough on moral when you play teams that have 50 kids per team. St. Anne's has come to Mauriceville and beat them a time or two or at least put up a very good fight. Just like any program -- depends on the year, kids, coaches, etc. I do know a lot of Mauriceville kids are on the field on Friday nights but there are a bunch in the stands. I know your not know you are not knocking the Panthers ;)but this is the only positive LCM football has going right now!!! Friday night football this year was hard to swallow!! -

Hope those boys stick with it!!! Mauriceville always has a strong team but something happens once they hit the high school. Hopefully changes will be coming soon and LCM can be competitive again. Congrats to the Panthers, Coaching staff and parents!!!!
