This was the battle for the district championship, and the Highlanders were victorious with a score of 49-33.  To be honest, I did not expect this outcome.  I had seen both teams play and figured Lufkin would have been victorious.  Good job Highlanders.

Newton has the athletes to compete well with the other teams.  There was very little preparation last week and EC came ready to play.  Not taking anything away from them, but if this conversation was two months ago, we'd be asking if EC would make the playoffs.  This district is close and a couple of missteps will derail a team's ambitions for the year.  Newton had an extreme psychological advantage over EC prior to last week.  That's just as important as anything.  Newton will make the playoffs but probably as a third place team.  This week will tell a lot about 10-2A.

That makes three, right? The Woodlands Round Rock Stony Point Corpus Christi Ray They are national champions in Mexico and are playing Texas schools for the competition.  From what I heard, they dominate the competition in Mexico.  I saw them play firsthand; competition must be bad in Mexico. Their players and coaches are some of the classiest people I have met on the football field.  There was no attitude issues even after dealing with the people from The Woodlands.  You have to be thick-skinned to deal with those people.

It will be a close game, but what hurts Buna is their lack of an explosive offense.  Yes, they have a possession offense that will methodically drive down the field.  I just don't see them throwing the ball down the field.  If Anahuac slows down their run game, they are in a tight situation.

Cowgirl and Momma insults in the same breath.  You need to come a little harder than that.  That's like today's game between the Jets and Bills.  The Bills ran their mouths and finished the day with something in their mouths to keep it shut.  As far as my mother is concerned, she is single and interested in a date. 

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure his first year was 2000.  That would have made his first win there against Anahuac.  I believe the score was 12-6.

I was pulling for Newton to win, but this makes the district race that much more interesting.  We'll see how it pans out.

Since 2008, this match-up has been entertaining.  Anahuac has come out on top in the last two years, and I believe they will win this game again this year.  Anahuac has a lot of speed.  Buna has Craft.  He is good but it won't be enough. Anahuac 35 Buna      21

I saw that game last year as well.  For a school the size of Conroe, I am amazed at the lack of success the football team has.  They will probably have a new coach next year because Holtkampt will get the AD job left vacant by Ronnie Peacock's departure.  Maybe that will turn the tides a bit.  There is no doubt they have the athletes, but they cannot bring it together.

Good job EC.  I guess this answers one question about the district.  EC/Buna will be a big game.

Ouch.  That is not even right.  However, I do have to commend the boys at Warren for going out and playing.  It is not easy getting your teeth kicked in every year.
