MID COUNTY MADNESS...Who Wins? PN-G Or Nederland?
Bulldog1985 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
That was not a weakness in OT, that was very good coverage, very good throw, excellent catch to win it. MC Madness is always unpredictable, but this year it PNG should win. As Brubaker says we have a ton of injuries, it part of it. I know in the past PNG has had inuries as well. You still have to play and the best team wins. It maybe time to bring up some underclassmen and give them some experience on Friday night. Nederland has a very talented group behind the SR's. No matter what next Friday the staium will be 13000 plus and will be electric. -
Understand. And I dont want to complain either because the volunteers do a good job. I know from when my kid played, the board would have made the correct adjustment at certification. So I do not think any kid played in the wrong division.

Sorry for the earlier post. I meant to say that the summary of weight limits is incorrect. The by-laws is what is governed. Below is straight from the by-laws. Someone from the STJFL needs to delete or re-phrase the summary. By the way is says the samething for JR's. SECTION 2. PEEWEE TACKLE DIVISION: To qualify for a Pee-Wee tackle football team the participant must be age (8) eight or under on September 1 and not exceed the weight of 125 lbs. If a player exceeds weight for the Junior division, the player will be allowed to play up as an unlimited weight player in the Junior division for year (s) that the player has not met the weight requirements for the Junior division. Any pee-wee tackle participant that exceeds 90 lbs. will be restricted to a down lineman position tackle to tackle on offense, between the tackles on defense, and line of scrimmage kick off receive only. To qualify for a pee-wee tackle cheer team, the participant must be age (8) eight and under on September 1st.
-
I do not know what you are reffering to??? This is straight from the STJFL.net website Special Notes: * A participant who is twelve (12) on September 1 that will turn thirteen (13) before May 30 of the following year must not exceed the weight of 120 lbs. * A person who is enrolled in the 7th grade or higher of the ensuing football season shall not be allowed to compete in the STJFL, Inc. If a player exceeds weight in their division, they may move up to the next division with no position restrictions, until they meet the age requirement for that division. Any player moving up to any division must meet the overall weight requirement for that division.

Gone South is 100% correct. players are allowed to play up one division. Look at the rules again

12U ROUGHRIDERS TRYOUT INFORMATION
Bulldog1985 replied to ROUGHRIDER RED's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think what Roughrider Red is saying Ondeck is, if there is player that loves to competetive baseball, try-out, if that player will help the team they will make room for you. I do nto think it he statement is a tricky one. Bottom line, you know players that can compdete with that he already has go to try-outs. -
Smitty you are so out of it. I guess you are one these people that is selfish and probably sneaks off and eats a steak while your family is eating bread and water. Athletics is part of an education, just like band, chior eyc. It all about team work. And by the way, it can pay for higher education. I bet you cant even guess how many Nederland kids get scholarships every year. Here is a proposition/solution. Pass very small bond say 10 million. patch up everything. 3 to 5 yeaqrs later pass another bond for 20 million but can fix only less than you previously. So , we just keep asking the taxpayers to pass a bond every so often. And it is time to got off the soap box of turf and pressbox. If that was not in the bond and the bond was 16.9 million dollars, CARE would have still defeated it. It is just little more ammo that was provided to them. Smitty why do you live in Nederland? 36 yrs old and I have as much fun as anybody on these boards but that statement was ridiculous. I cant even go to one single topic where you arent trying to p.ss someone off about every single subject. It is obvious you use a thesaurus when you are writing your short stories. I usually quit reading them though because you say the same thing over and over again....... Go ahead and post back about kool-aid or whatever it is you ramble on about...
-
Username, I you have some points (not very good ones). The superintadent promoted the bond as good as Bruney did, not very good. There will be a bond, we will see what happens. Money talks!!!
-
James, you will never convince Smitty, even if it is laid out in black and white. We have Football at 3 schools 7 or 8 teams. We have volleyball at the 3 schools 7 or 8 teams, we have track at 3 schools, we have softball, baseball with multiple teams, soccer, power lifting, corss country, basketball at 3 schools, I know I missing some other sport. So what is your point Smitty??? So if it is 155,000 or 255,000 it is peanuts for all of our kids to participate in something that build team work, character, disciplne, etc... By the way, I read the document and it is $155,000.
-
Smitty, I never said that CARE lied 100% of the time, it is a campaign. Each side spins the facts to suite their opinion. CARE had the money and a paid consultant to defeat the bond. Why do you think they hired a consultant? They are goingto take everything negative to to defeat the issue. It is a lot easier to sell something negative than something positive. I am not being critical of the 3200 NO VOTERS, that is their right. The information they were force fed was not 100% accurate. Thats why they spent 20g's get their opinion out.
-
This not a national election where people watch 24 hour news channels and some nationals issues are not affecting voters. This is small community and when an organization can send news letters, set up a phone tree to call just about every registered voter pushing their agenda, how can you say they did not have an impact? Thousands of dollars were spent to dfeat the proposal with a professional consultant. The message that went out everyone consistanly was VOTE NO! you hear that enough with all the spin, I guarantee you it gets voters out. Also, all I kept hearing was that 3 million of the 120 million was going for a new press box and turf. If folks do not know why it was in there, that alone can get a lot of NO VOTES! All the no voters probably did not know that the press box is not up to code with the disability act and requires an elevator and bathroom. Did they know that the turf has a quick payout and there are over 60 school games a year. Soccer season is played in the wattest part of the year and the field gets tore up. The new "play safe" turf last twice as long as the older model. This could go on forever.

Yep, the test scores are great for now. Just wait until all the good teachers decide they want to work in a plce with better facilities and they do not have to spend their own money for the students, then the score will go down, attendance will go down and then Lumberton and PNG will be 5A school. Ndedeland will be a spiralling down. Teachers spend a lot of their own money for their student to have supplies. How many of you know that???? Do you know that there will be a bond just to repair what we have? Taxes are going to up, unless we keep voting down bond proposals. Time is running out, something has to be done.
-
This debate could go on forever, whether you are for or against. My point is that when you have big money to get out your opinion you will get folks out to vote. I believe the bond should have gone 50/50 if there was even money for the both sides. And the bond was not DOA before CARE. The election was supposed to be last November, there would have been 50% less voting and the vote for the bonsd would have been very close. by the way smitty, who cares what the athletic budget is. All school district have a budget for all sport (girls and boys) band, choir, and etc. What do want to cut out programs the are very important for the kids. By the way, there is an average of 5000, to 6000 fans in the stands on Friday night. That brings in dollars to all the programs. Football alone can pay for itself. Most coaches teach classes and then coach sports after school. There are some equipment needs every year, but the booster help with some of that. Friends of soccer raises money. What is your point?

I have been reading this stuff off and on for a few days and it appears smitty and some others just dont get what James telling you. Let me try this; I had 2 news letters mailed to my house within 3 weeks, I had 2 phone call recording in the last 2 weeks, multiple signs around town for the last 2 months to vote against the bond. All of the info was opinion from CARE very little facts, but that info reached a lot voters. CARE also hired a consultants for $20,000 to defeat the bond. Dorr is a professional and knows how to "spin the facts (he does this for living). Where did care get the money, businessess that do not have kids going to school. They want to reap the benfits of the school but do not want to invest in the school. They rather invest thousands and thousands of dollars to defeat something is needed. My point is money won the election. When they can get there message out for over 2 months in many differnt ways and the committee has about 1/10 of the money to campaign, its a no brainer. It is very easy to to scare people when it comes to taxes. The good thing about the bond not passing is CARE owns the issue and the businesses that funded it. There will be another bond proposal, no doubt, the problems still exist. And when the proposal is to patch up everything for 4o million, and then we need another one in 10 years for 80 milllion thats when everyone will relize that we made the wrong decision. I hope I am wrong, we need a solution. I hope CARE and the whiners are righr and we come out of this with solid schools for the long term. But I doubt it. We will see.

Thanks Penny. I think if the money was even and all the facts were out there the vote would have been 50/50. Some folks will not aupport raising taxes no matter what. You are correct, something will happen. It needs to be handled very soon.

I can get more than the county assessment. The insurance has the value 17,000 more than the tax appraisal. Market value lies between the two numbers. The bottom line, vote yes or no! Most folks that vote no, its about the money. But if this fails, there will be another proposal, the needs to not go away. Higher taxes either way. If busineesess move out because higher taxes so be it. where are they goingto go. Lumberton??? They have the highest taxes in SETX. Port Arthur, too much competition. Ask Primueaxs and others that moved out of Nederland to compete with the big populated towns/cities, they did not last long. Port Neches would be an option small town, but did'nt they just pass a multi million dollar bond! After Saturday it will be behind us and we need to move forward, yes or no, we need to come together and help our biggest asset/businees (our schools) to be successful.

what rule would u liked changed in high school football
Bulldog1985 replied to skipper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Allowing more team in the playoffs gives all district teams something to play for. If you know your out, kids will not play with the same intensity. When that happens, games at the end of the season may have a differnt out come and possibly affecting the district champion. 20-4A has had more co-champs than out right winners in the last 10 years. I think that is because 4 or 5 teams are playing for something. -
The LO rule was was put in to allow bigger kids to play. I heard it was discussed to blow the whistle and call it dead if they get the ball, but there was a big concern that you would have inadvertant whistle and the player not be LO. That could impact a lot of big plays, also they did not want to limit the game that it is really played. The rule is simple; Line-up head up or inside the offensive tackle, offensive LO must play tackle to tackle. Usually there is a coaches/ref meeting prior to the season. The first hurricane evacuation messed that up, then Ike. The bottom line it is where they initally line-up and the play cannot be designed for the LO to get the ball. Through the course of the play, if they get there hands on it, they can advance. I suggest you cantact your local board so they can

Based on all your post, I assume you are coming from WOS. If so, go through Bridge City, take HWY 73 go a ways, take HWY 69 North, as you approach Nederland (past Central Mall) take Nederland Avenue Exit, take right onto Nederland Avenue, go through the first 4 way stop light, the second light you come to, take a left, you will see the stadium on the right.
