  1. Good point. I wonder if the UIL is losing ticket sales? Honest question. I don't know. It would seem logical that streaming and TV options cut into ticket sales. I'm sure someone, somewhere, is crunching the numbers. I'm thankful to attend in-person, but I'm also thankful that the streaming and TV options exist for the times when I can't attend, which is most of the time thanks to work, kids, grandkids, and my wife giving me a never-ending list of things to do.
  2. You are 100% correct. The days of a single game having 49,000 are over. Championship Friday and Saturday at AT&T where you have three games a day, maybe you will get a huge crowd. But, times have changed. Kids and families today have too many entertainment options. Watching on TV at home or on an iPad or telephone are too easy. That's OK. The people there will be loud and create a home field advantage.
  3. I'd estimate that PN-G had 10K-12K at NRG. Huntsville 1K-2K. The fans of 2022-2023 are not like 1974-1977 when PN-G played had huge crowds 30,000 - 49,000. Times have changed. That said, the purple and white faithful still roll pretty strong come playoff time. CFISD's Berry Center will be fine. We'll fill it up and spill over to LH's side. No worries...plenty of Indians will be on hand for Cherokee and the War Chant. Join us, great. Glad to have you. Like us, super. Thanks for the love. Hate us, we don't care. We are PN-G. Peace.
  4. No crying...CFISD can sell SRO tickets and/or open up the LH side to PN-G and we can fill their side, too. Katy Legacy held 12,000 last year and after the PN-G side sold out, the Katy ISD sold SRO and opened up the LH side to PN-G. The view from LH's side last year was great.
  5. Lamar...not interested in hosting 20,000+ fans where you will turn a profit for opening the gates and turning on the lights? Nope? SMH. Disappointing. Go Indians.
  6. +1...it's high school football in Mid-County...the talent comes and goes. Things will even out and circle back to where Nederland has a few years of talented kids with size and speed walking the halls. Then, all of a sudden, Monte Barrow will be a great coach again. Right now, the Indians are riding the wave of talented kids, good size on the OL/DL, and excellent coaching. Anyone who has watched PN-G and Nederland football since the 1950s knows that the good times and bad times swing back and forth.
  7. My man...you need to find some positive energy and go rally the Ned kids. They are playing hard, giving what they got, and remember, they are 15-18 year old kids. PN-G has had its share of down years. It happens. But, I don't think the Indian faithful would tear down their own kids or take pride in predicting a bad season. That goes against our core values of Honor, Pride, and Tradition. Hit the pause button and go support your kids, encourage them, love them, and thank them for busting their ass for all of our Friday night enjoyment. Go Indians. Peace.
  8. To the hardcore WO-S alums and fans, it's all in good fun. No disrespect intended. All SETX fans will tell you, the wins and losses are cyclical. There are good years and some not so good years. It happens to all programs. Hang in there. It will circle back around.
  9. Remember decades ago when area fans would make jokes about Vidor playing Interstate 10? VHS - 0 Interstate - 10 Who would have ever imagined that area fans (and WO-S fans) would be making light of the fact that WO-S has a bye week? I will say this, the bye week is undefeated. I can't remember the last time the bye week lost to any opponent? Bye week always holds teams scoreless. I don't think the bye week feared Dan Hooks or Cornell Thompson so you know bye week will be ready for Coach Hickman. Somewhere...Vidor fans and I-10 are smiling.
  10. Did I read that right...all you can eat chicken fried steak? Are we talking a homemade chicken fried steak or a "grab it from the freezer and throw it in the grease" chicken fried steak? If we are talking about a SETX homemade down in the country chicken fried steak, that might be too difficult to pass up.
  11. Maybe PAM is getting better week to week? That's what it looks like from the outside looking in. I've seen two PAM games. PN-G in week 1 and tonight's game vs. La Porte. PAM has improved since the PN-G game. The run game is solid. The defense is solid. The throws tonight were there...had three drops. Reading this thread in hindsight, some of the PAM fans want the Titans to be playing their best ball in weeks 5 and 6. Take the Ws each week, identify the mistakes, and go to practice the next week to get better. I want my team to be playing its best football in weeks 11-16, not week 1 or week 2 or week 5. If the QB is not running each time the Red Sea parts, no big deal. As long as he is managing the game and taking care of the football, which he is, he will see the running lanes on the film. He can run wild in weeks 11-16. You guys hammer the PAM coaches when every little thing goes wrong. What more can Coach Morgan do? His staff obviously know their talent and how to make adjustments at the half. That's coaching. I'd be more worried if my team's coaches didn't make adjustments. Also, it's crazy to expect 15-18 year old kids to play a perfect game. Drops happen. Missed blocks on the bubble screen happen. Cut them some slack and enjoy the Ws. It's hard to win. The other team's coaches get paid, too. If winning was easy, everyone would be winning. I will echo the LP fan. The PAM online broadcast is very well done. I'm no fashion guy and I'm old, but the all red unis were hard on my eyes. I like the all black PAM unis or the all white with the black/red trim. I think PAM will be a tough out in weeks 11-16.
  12. LP @ PAM or HF @ WO-S...close call on the game of the week. Leaning toward the home teams.
  13. Thank you, Ladybug33. Rally around the WO-S kids, love them, and support them. WO-S will be back.
  14. AAW thank you for the summary and clarifications. Two good SETX programs with proud histories. Good luck to Silsbee. The Tigers have a shot to win it all this year and I hope they do. WO-S will bounce back soon. Too much history, tradition, and good athletes that will fight their ass off for 48 minutes to be down for too long. All programs have down years. WO-S will be back.
  15. I read that WO-S had fans/alumni jumping the fence. Did that happen? What was going on? Were they upset with the coaches, the kids, the refs, or something else? Did the game end early because of players fighting? So, what I am reading is that the referees, coaching staffs, and security/police lost control and the game had to be stopped? Is that a first? What in the world was going on? As a high school football fan, I go back a long ways to the McCarty, Hooks, and Thompson eras at WO-S and the Coach McGallion Silsbee teams of the early/mid-seventies. None of those coaches would have had games where fans jumped the fence and referees lost control causing the game to end early. Did that stuff really happen or am I reading this thread wrong? Thanks.
  16. Agree w/FrodoNDN...the WR group seems to be missing that go-to playmaker. Last year, PN-G had three of them #10, #18, and #19. I hear the SOPH WR #8 might be the next playmaker like #10 and #18 were last year. I hope so. We need those kids that will go get the ball and then make some yards after the catch. Last year, #10 and #18 made amazing plays all over the field. Big shoes to fill indeed.
  17. Will there be any dancing on the mid-field logo if BH wins? Asking for a friend.
  18. Agree with Frodo NDN, #9 at QB1 and #19 at WR/Wildcat. #9 just needs some reps. He can sling it around the yard. Impressed with WO-S QB #17 and the stable of RBs. Nice mixture of strong runners and elusive playmakers. Also impressed with the WO-S Punter. That kid is nails...he can hit them long with a nice roll and he can hit the short chip shot inside the 5 yard line. Nice call on the fake punt by WO-S. Glad PN-G had the depth and fresh legs of #33 to escape with the win. Here's to a good two weeks to heal up and work on the passing game. Enjoyed watching the Indians fight back. It's easy to fold, but the Indians kept playing. Same for the WO-S kids. It amazes me every year. WOS keeps shrinking in numbers, but those kids wearing blue and silver fight their ass off for 48 minutes. Go Indians.
  19. PN-G has size on the OL. This latest run of success for PN-G over the past three years is due in part to having some kids on the OL and DL with size and agility. One OT is a JR and he's 6'5" and 270-275. He moves very well for his size. The other OT is a SOPH and is 6'4"-6'5" and 260+. He too, moves very well for his size. Last year, Jansen Ware was an OT around 6'4" and 275 and he moved faster than any OL PN-G has had in 20-30 years. I have no idea what the families in Port Neches and Groves are feeding their kids, but the Indians have been blessed to have some big kids in the trenches. As for PN-G vs. BU, you can find the game on YouTube. PN-G controlled the trenches and it was not close. It was 38-0 at the half. While PN-G may not have the depth of 5A-DI or 6A programs, they do have the front line size to compete. Yes, PN-G's talent is cyclical. The Indians will not have size in the trenches every year. They won't have 6'4" and 6'5" QBs and WRs each year. For the past two or three years, the talent has been there. What BU needs more than anything is Ws. They need to play 6A teams, 5A teams, or whoever they can find where they can taste some success. Ws build confidence and BU needs confidence. Against PN-G it was 38-0 at the half and BU had no confidence. They didn't roll over and quit, but they weren't excited to be getting drilled 38-0. If they have a booster club, I'd go to the coach's video night and ask, why do we throw a swing pass behind the line of scrimmage when it's 3rd and 12? Why do we send in play calls to our kids with less than 10 seconds on the play clock and then ask our QBs and WRs to assess coverage as the clock winds down to 0? No slants, crossing routes, or combination routes. Just fly routes and swing passes. It didn't take PN-G long to figure that out. Schedule whoever you can and get some Ws.
  20. It's the first game of the season. Both teams competed well but made plenty of mistakes that can be corrected. Fumbles, INTs, and penalties happen in game one. Potentially, there are 15 games left on the schedule. Get better each week and you will forget about tonight's mistakes. PAM's defense will be a nasty tough group. Talent at all three levels. The big guy in the middle and the tall DE are disruptive. Look at your positives instead of the negatives in game one. PAM fans could be married to Halle Berry and would complain that she can't cook. For the good guys wearing purple, I see lots of positives and things to build on. PN-G's defense should be a good group again this year. The offense will find its groove. PAM had a lot to do with PN-G's stalled offense tonight. Keep the rivalry going. Every year these teams should play. Clean game tonight...no cheap shots...just good physical and fast football. Let's go Indians...lots of good things to build on.
  21. No, I did not. I have a good friend that lives in Groves. He told me that 2023 should be another good year for PN-G. The Indians will again have big agile kids on the OL and DL, and Shea Adams will probably play all over the field, which is a good thing because when the ball is in his hands, good things happen. I've read on this message board and on the PN-G board that the Indians have a young QB that can run and throw. #33 returns at RB and last year he proved that he can carry the load. Give DC McDaniel another big DL and more high energy kids at LB and he will stop people. The defensive game plans he put together in the 2022 playoffs were the best at PN-G in a long, long time. Last year, he knew when FBM and SOC wanted to get outside and run, so he put a stop on the edges. Then, when they wanted to run a delay or RPO, he had our kids staying in their lanes. Then, when they wanted to throw, he called the right blitz and coverage. It was a great ride. The kids (and fans) had confidence that he would find a way to get the defense to make stops. Last year's tackling was better than any team at PN-G in the past 20+ years. Those kids hit, wrapped up, and got people on the ground. I'm excited to see if the Indians can build on last year's momentum and have another great run. The 2022 team had lots of good players. Talented kids + great coaching = good mojo and wins. Go Indians.
  22. PN-G has been blessed to have a good run of talented kids with size. The OLs and DLs over the past couple of years and continuing in 2023 have had kids with size and mobility. Mix-in some really good kids at QB, RB, WR, lots of high energy kids on defense that were great at tackling, and add-in the great coaching and conditioning and you will win a lot of games. I have no idea what they are feeding kids in Port Neches or Groves, but the Indians have had the size to control the LOS. It's good times at PN-G. Enjoy it and be thankful. The good times and bad times can be cyclical in HS football. I agree with some of the other PN-G fans. Anxious to see how our Indians will replace #2, 3, 6, 10, 11, 16, 18, 44, 45, 48, 64, 65, 68, 72...lots of really good kids on the 2022 team. In the playoffs, I'm not sure any team had better LBs that PN-G (3, 6, and 16)...tackling like their hair was on fire. Go Indians.
  23. +1...Earl Evans, Port Arthur Lincoln, 1972-1974.
  24. Fire up Cherokee and give Coach Chris Smith a raise. Out of town alum and I am happy to read about the Indians having success in basketball. Everyone says that Coach Smith is a good coach and he is proving everyone right with Ws. I hope he stays at PN-G a long time. Making his mark and contributing to our core values of Honor, Pride, and Tradition. Go Coach Smith! Go Indians!
