  1. Reagan - you have to know this question is coming, if what you heard from a player's mother is true, is Nederland getting an elite coach?
  2. My eyeball test, yes. Larry Neumann and Delbert Spell were excellent high school football coaches at Nederland High School. Elite in my eyes...I saw them take average high school players, coach and motivate them to play above their abilities, and create some salty teams. Just my 0.02 cents.
  3. Not to hijack the thread, but on the subject of RBs...we will miss #33. Not the biggest and not the fastest, but he had patience, good vision, he was fearless, and his ball security was top notch. He was fast enough when it counted and he had the heart of a champion. For next year, #15 will be the bruiser, and some people at the LH semifinal game say there is a SOPH and a FR that will open some eyes this spring and next year. Supposedly, the SOPH runs north/south and is not afraid to put his head down and the FR is the speedster. I'm not a local, but was told our JV finished second to FBM and the FR team was either first or second? Any truth to the chatter at the LH game? Thanks...back to your thread about Chief Jeff Joseph leaving the Tribe. I think he wants to stay a few more years at PN-G. JJ, McDaniel, McCrary, Feller, et al. have two or three more years of big runs at PN-G if they want it. 4/5 of the OL returns, 2/3 of the DL returns, the QB is back, and a few other playmakers on both sides will be back. It's a good time to be a PN-G fan (says Captain Obvious). Go Indians. Peace.
  4. Watching SOC on YouTube. The RB #21 Green is quick and elusive. Yikes. Not the biggest guy, but he can take a pop and bounce off tacklers. PN-G has seen some good RBs this season, but I don't think the Indians have seen anyone with his combination of quickness, vision, and the ability to slip away from tacklers. The SOC QB #18 reminds me of PN-G's #9...cool under pressure and making the right reads and throws. #18 can sling it. SOC defense is fast at all three levels, but I think PN-G's OL will be able to create some running lanes. The game will come down to PN-G stopping the run and PN-G winning some one-on-one battles in the passing game when SOC loads the box. Stopping the run is easier said than done. SOC has some DUDES on the OL and #21 zips right through their lanes. They are playing well. Glad PN-G has a shot to play the last 5A-DII game of the year and taking a shot at the defending champs. We've got a shot...what more can you ask for? Should be a good game. Tip of the cap to SOC coaching staff...they lost 11 scholarship kids from last season and they are back at the top, in the state championship. Impressive. P.S. One more thing. No turnovers this year. The Indians need to hold on to the ball. No safeties this year.
  5. If they clear out the lower bowl following each game, will our GA-tickets get us back in for the second and third games? My group was planning to stay and watch all three games on Saturday. Thanks.
  6. No offense to Duncanville, North Shore, Westlake, SLC, Aledo, or any other 6A or 5A team, but Desoto is the best team in the entire State of Texas and probably the country. Give me Desoto vs. the field and I am taking Desoto.
  7. In 2024, Region III may run through Huntsville. At times, they played 9 JRs and SOPHs on defense. They have size, quickness, and they were physical. The Hornets practice tackling and it shows. They don’t arm tackle. Plus, Huntsville will return their QB and RB. They will be tough next season. All that said, PN-G handed out hits of their own last Friday. It’s hard to run the ball when there are 9 defenders within 5 yards of the LOS. When PN-G gets the lead, the coaches will squeeze the clock. Second halves may not look pretty, but the formula works. I’ll take 26 wins over the last two seasons and there’s a good shot we can rack up 28 wins in our last 32 games. Sign me up for more ugly second halves.
  8. Good point. I wonder if the UIL is losing ticket sales? Honest question. I don't know. It would seem logical that streaming and TV options cut into ticket sales. I'm sure someone, somewhere, is crunching the numbers. I'm thankful to attend in-person, but I'm also thankful that the streaming and TV options exist for the times when I can't attend, which is most of the time thanks to work, kids, grandkids, and my wife giving me a never-ending list of things to do.
  9. You are 100% correct. The days of a single game having 49,000 are over. Championship Friday and Saturday at AT&T where you have three games a day, maybe you will get a huge crowd. But, times have changed. Kids and families today have too many entertainment options. Watching on TV at home or on an iPad or telephone are too easy. That's OK. The people there will be loud and create a home field advantage.
  10. I'd estimate that PN-G had 10K-12K at NRG. Huntsville 1K-2K. The fans of 2022-2023 are not like 1974-1977 when PN-G played had huge crowds 30,000 - 49,000. Times have changed. That said, the purple and white faithful still roll pretty strong come playoff time. CFISD's Berry Center will be fine. We'll fill it up and spill over to LH's side. No worries...plenty of Indians will be on hand for Cherokee and the War Chant. Join us, great. Glad to have you. Like us, super. Thanks for the love. Hate us, we don't care. We are PN-G. Peace.
  11. No crying...CFISD can sell SRO tickets and/or open up the LH side to PN-G and we can fill their side, too. Katy Legacy held 12,000 last year and after the PN-G side sold out, the Katy ISD sold SRO and opened up the LH side to PN-G. The view from LH's side last year was great.
  12. Lamar...not interested in hosting 20,000+ fans where you will turn a profit for opening the gates and turning on the lights? Nope? SMH. Disappointing. Go Indians.
  13. +1...it's high school football in Mid-County...the talent comes and goes. Things will even out and circle back to where Nederland has a few years of talented kids with size and speed walking the halls. Then, all of a sudden, Monte Barrow will be a great coach again. Right now, the Indians are riding the wave of talented kids, good size on the OL/DL, and excellent coaching. Anyone who has watched PN-G and Nederland football since the 1950s knows that the good times and bad times swing back and forth.
  14. My man...you need to find some positive energy and go rally the Ned kids. They are playing hard, giving what they got, and remember, they are 15-18 year old kids. PN-G has had its share of down years. It happens. But, I don't think the Indian faithful would tear down their own kids or take pride in predicting a bad season. That goes against our core values of Honor, Pride, and Tradition. Hit the pause button and go support your kids, encourage them, love them, and thank them for busting their ass for all of our Friday night enjoyment. Go Indians. Peace.
  15. To the hardcore WO-S alums and fans, it's all in good fun. No disrespect intended. All SETX fans will tell you, the wins and losses are cyclical. There are good years and some not so good years. It happens to all programs. Hang in there. It will circle back around.
  16. Remember decades ago when area fans would make jokes about Vidor playing Interstate 10? VHS - 0 Interstate - 10 Who would have ever imagined that area fans (and WO-S fans) would be making light of the fact that WO-S has a bye week? I will say this, the bye week is undefeated. I can't remember the last time the bye week lost to any opponent? Bye week always holds teams scoreless. I don't think the bye week feared Dan Hooks or Cornell Thompson so you know bye week will be ready for Coach Hickman. Somewhere...Vidor fans and I-10 are smiling.
  17. Did I read that right...all you can eat chicken fried steak? Are we talking a homemade chicken fried steak or a "grab it from the freezer and throw it in the grease" chicken fried steak? If we are talking about a SETX homemade down in the country chicken fried steak, that might be too difficult to pass up.
  18. Maybe PAM is getting better week to week? That's what it looks like from the outside looking in. I've seen two PAM games. PN-G in week 1 and tonight's game vs. La Porte. PAM has improved since the PN-G game. The run game is solid. The defense is solid. The throws tonight were there...had three drops. Reading this thread in hindsight, some of the PAM fans want the Titans to be playing their best ball in weeks 5 and 6. Take the Ws each week, identify the mistakes, and go to practice the next week to get better. I want my team to be playing its best football in weeks 11-16, not week 1 or week 2 or week 5. If the QB is not running each time the Red Sea parts, no big deal. As long as he is managing the game and taking care of the football, which he is, he will see the running lanes on the film. He can run wild in weeks 11-16. You guys hammer the PAM coaches when every little thing goes wrong. What more can Coach Morgan do? His staff obviously know their talent and how to make adjustments at the half. That's coaching. I'd be more worried if my team's coaches didn't make adjustments. Also, it's crazy to expect 15-18 year old kids to play a perfect game. Drops happen. Missed blocks on the bubble screen happen. Cut them some slack and enjoy the Ws. It's hard to win. The other team's coaches get paid, too. If winning was easy, everyone would be winning. I will echo the LP fan. The PAM online broadcast is very well done. I'm no fashion guy and I'm old, but the all red unis were hard on my eyes. I like the all black PAM unis or the all white with the black/red trim. I think PAM will be a tough out in weeks 11-16.
  19. LP @ PAM or HF @ WO-S...close call on the game of the week. Leaning toward the home teams.
  20. Thank you, Ladybug33. Rally around the WO-S kids, love them, and support them. WO-S will be back.
  21. AAW thank you for the summary and clarifications. Two good SETX programs with proud histories. Good luck to Silsbee. The Tigers have a shot to win it all this year and I hope they do. WO-S will bounce back soon. Too much history, tradition, and good athletes that will fight their ass off for 48 minutes to be down for too long. All programs have down years. WO-S will be back.
  22. I read that WO-S had fans/alumni jumping the fence. Did that happen? What was going on? Were they upset with the coaches, the kids, the refs, or something else? Did the game end early because of players fighting? So, what I am reading is that the referees, coaching staffs, and security/police lost control and the game had to be stopped? Is that a first? What in the world was going on? As a high school football fan, I go back a long ways to the McCarty, Hooks, and Thompson eras at WO-S and the Coach McGallion Silsbee teams of the early/mid-seventies. None of those coaches would have had games where fans jumped the fence and referees lost control causing the game to end early. Did that stuff really happen or am I reading this thread wrong? Thanks.
  23. Agree w/FrodoNDN...the WR group seems to be missing that go-to playmaker. Last year, PN-G had three of them #10, #18, and #19. I hear the SOPH WR #8 might be the next playmaker like #10 and #18 were last year. I hope so. We need those kids that will go get the ball and then make some yards after the catch. Last year, #10 and #18 made amazing plays all over the field. Big shoes to fill indeed.
  24. Will there be any dancing on the mid-field logo if BH wins? Asking for a friend.
  25. Agree with Frodo NDN, #9 at QB1 and #19 at WR/Wildcat. #9 just needs some reps. He can sling it around the yard. Impressed with WO-S QB #17 and the stable of RBs. Nice mixture of strong runners and elusive playmakers. Also impressed with the WO-S Punter. That kid is nails...he can hit them long with a nice roll and he can hit the short chip shot inside the 5 yard line. Nice call on the fake punt by WO-S. Glad PN-G had the depth and fresh legs of #33 to escape with the win. Here's to a good two weeks to heal up and work on the passing game. Enjoyed watching the Indians fight back. It's easy to fold, but the Indians kept playing. Same for the WO-S kids. It amazes me every year. WOS keeps shrinking in numbers, but those kids wearing blue and silver fight their ass off for 48 minutes. Go Indians.
