I think what Coach Huck was thinking was that at the time OF was up by 8 with around 4 minutes to go in the game. He knew that if OF wanted to have any chance at the playoffs we had to win by 9 or more. If he punts in that situation, then there was no guarantee that OF would get the ball back and if OF's defense were to force a 3 and out by BC, then OF would get the ball back with very little time left on the clock and OF is not a quick strike offense. He almost had to go for in that situation with 4 minutes left in the game if he wanted any chance to get into the playoffs. If all OF had to do was win the game, then there is no doubt he would have punted in that situation.
I didn't know OF had to win by a certain amout of points. That certainly puts it in a different light.I stand corrected. That was the right call.
You should have heard me trying to explain that to people around me at the game. Most still did not have a clue what I was talking about!! -
Just curious,...why would BC & OF "flip" for playoff seeding rather than play for it ?
Maybe because 1st round playoff games have to be played either Monday or Tuesday, therefore BC/OF would have to play either Friday or Saturday. Friday is the football game and if they play Saturday, then whoever they play in the 1st round could decide to play Monday and that would not give you much time to prepare for whoever you play the 1st round. If they flip, then it gives you more time to prepare for that 1st game. Just my thoughts.
-
Heard tonight that they will probably flip for playoff seeding.
-
HF beat OF tonight 25-12, 25-15, 30-28 to win the district championship.
-
Do we have in-progress scores for 21-3a to post presently?

We have Silsbee next!
Two of Orangefield's RB are out, one lost to grades and the other fractured fibula, he is also a starting LB. It may not have mattered, but it hurts when you lose two starting RB's and a LB.
It looks like that third place team out of 21-3A will play Coldspring. Two teams have wrapped up playoff spots out of 22-3A. Cleveland will be going Division I and Coldspring will be the #1 Division II team out of that district.
Those top two teams from 22-3A are good. It will be hard for 21 to win either of those games. Silsbee and Cleveland should be a great game. If Silsbee's defense can continue to play the way they have, I like their chances.

I saw where they had Orangefield #93, BC #67. Looks like what is hurting OF is schedule (136) and defense (141), however offense is good (36). -
I hear ya. Actually though, it could be an advantage to OF with HJ having a new coach, it could give the OF coaches a chance to see what kind of schemes Coach Davis runs. I don't know, but I would think not much will change from the previous years. I think the coaches know what the other will try to do. Should be another fun year.

Hey hjhawk, I see both HJ and OF may meet up before district considering they are both in the Nederland and Livingston tournaments. Do you like the idea of playing your district rival before district?
