  1. It's a great idea and for a good cause, but you spend some $$$$$$$$$$$ fishing this tourney. The chances of getting in the money are very slim. I fished it 7 times and the one time I caught a big fish, 7.15lbs.........took 51st place. They stopped paying at 50th. Soooo, I think I'm done.
  2. Hey tvc.........what do they say, A bad days fishin is.......
  3. Toledo was puzzling! Beautiful weather (except for the 30 mph gust)...........not many fish. Last week the water was stained from the rain, this week it was good except around the mill creek area. most fisherman I spoke with said the spawn was over. I'm not 100% sure myself, but did not see any fish on beds. If it is over, it was a short spawn. I still caught a few fish in 4 - 6 ft of water. It was spinner baits and Texas rigged worms. Tried wacky with no success. Did catch enough to have a small fish fry, but nothing to brag about. The largest fish was about 3 1/2 lbs...........
  4. Last year I carolina rigged a deep diver crank bait..........used a 1 ounce weight and adjusted leader to about 4 ft off bottom. It makes the crank bait stay there because it floats......works well in the summer hmmmm might have to try that out! headed to Toledo in exactly 18 minutes......will give an update when I get back Sunday evening.
  5. I've done well with small spinners like you said and also top water swimmers like small original Rapalas. tvc is right on the money. In the creek small baits will work better than larger baits.......like an H&H spinner bait. Also, bass usually dont group in any one area. You have to fish an area, catch a couple, then find a duplicate area.
  6. In village creek, find the cuts with cypress knees. I fished a spinner bait (white) and did well. A texas riged or wacky worm should do good as well.
  7. slightly too coherent. You screwed up and used spell check!!!!!!!!
  8. Last year I carolina rigged a deep diver crank bait..........used a 1 ounce weight and adjusted leader to about 4 ft off bottom. It makes the crank bait stay there because it floats......works well in the summer
  9. If it's done fairly quickly. tvc is right. 2 weeks ago I seen fish on beds............last weekend after 5 inches of rain and the cold front, fish got deep again. I caught a few fish in 12 foot of water on Sunday. This week they should be back spawning...............the prime is in the next few weeks. It will taper from there.....
  10. Village creek has some bass in it if your around Lumberton......you can rent a canoe for about $35.00 for a day. I want to do that this summer. Last summer I figured out where bass hang out in a creek.....different than a lake for sure. Your other choice would be saltwater off the bank. You can read some post on this topic and find some locations. send me a PM, I live in Lumberton and coach as well.
  11. Kinda strange, 14 Yes, 0 No.......and 8 fresh + 7 salt = 15. My first survey, give me a break!
  12. Finally some response!! ;D Looks like its a tie fresh and salt...........maybe 2 tourneys???
  13. Thanks TVC...........looks like we got 9 votes. I'm gettin the feeling not many people want a tourney. Well, if this does not work at..................mini tourney at my cam on Toledo maybe?? ;D
  14. How big were the bream when you stocked it? How large is your pond? Have you seen any dead fish? has your pond ever flooded or spilled over(hurricane Ike?). Does your pond have grass or moss? You could also set a trout line and see if you can catch a catfish. Also, how deep?
  15. Guess I will jump right in the middle of this I coached basketball this year and had a wining season(7 & 8year olds). When we could afford it, the weaker 2 kids played. My two top performers only played 1 quarter each on a few games because it gave the other kids a chance to get the ball and play 3 quarters. My son(1 of the performers ) was not happy sitting out because he KNEW he was better. He asked, "why am I getting punished for being good"? I explained my madness and he understood. Another thing would be motivation. If you show up, try, and be serious you get to play. You all know "that kid". The one that picks fights, watches another team practice, takes a water break without asking........ He will not play as much on my team because of his attitude and work ethic.....not because of his talent. I can work with "no talent" but I cannot work with "don't care". I also think being a good coach is being strict and teaching them good practice habits and rewarding when you see improvement. My weakest kid ended up being the most improved kid on my team. He actually made a layup in a game when he could not hit the backboard his first 3 weeks. So in a nutshell, you guys both make good points........ but I do think that teaching winning and a winning attitude is important.
  16. Louisville Slugger TPX bats?? Can I get them at Academy? Forgive my stupidity, what is big barrell?
  17. I'm sure this has been asked but could not find it. I am also asking an "in general" question because I know it's specific to the kid, but here it goes. My son is 8, playing first year kid pitch. About what size and plan on picking it up at Academy. What do you guys recommend. He has a good fast swing.
  18. I think the regulars need to get more involved.......hint hint hint
  19. Come on people, not much activity. We can't have a tourney with just 8 people!
  20. Last year I coached kid pitch.....7-8yo. The only issue I have with revolving players to the infield is safety. Last year I had several grass pickers and sand throwers. Those kids did not play in my infield. I couldn't trust them to pay attention when the batter was a bat or their own teammate throwing them the ball. I had one kid get hit in the head because he was playing with the grass.
  21. I kinda agree. I thought the reason for the tourney was to get a chance to meet everyone, outfish them and talk trash! ;D ;D
