  1. Now the passing of TAKS to play a sport????? Some of these kids are beating their brains out to pass math or science as it is now. Some seniors come down to their last chance in April or take the test in the Summer to finally get their diploma. The TAKS is bad enough as it is now. Don't punish a kid because he can't pass the math portion of the TAKS. It is bad enough they can't get a diploma without the TAKS. Respectfully, shouldn't there be some sort of academic assessment for graduation? We did not have TAKS when I graduated, but we had to achieve certain credits to graduate. I hated Chemistry and to this date do not know how I passed. But if the kids are having to beat their brains out to pass math or science, maybe that extra time in sports should be applied to studying. :-\
  2. So if I get this straight, currently, if you maintain a "c" average during school you can participate in extracurricular activities. At the end of the year if you fail the TAKS test, you repeat the same grade. While repeating the same grade if you maintain a "c" average you can participate in extracurricular activities. If they make them have to pass TAKS, that means the student could be out an entire year. Do other Districts already have this in place?
  3. Well, never intended to attack you. Just calling out points as I see them. I'm not getting defensive, just backing up my post when needed. Profiling is a different subject that I would not dare bring up here. Honestly, I think there may (and I'm using may VERY conservatively) be a few out there that are haters of WO-S. But at the end of the day, I think that 99.9% of the community wants to see every school district be successful. Don't let one or two people get ya down. If the buses don't run..........WO-S will figure out a way to be successful. I have no doubt! It may be tough, but it will all come together.
  4. Where do I start.......First, this is a public forum, so if you want to speak to one poster you have two options.....email or private message. If you choose to post on the PUBLIC forum you open yourself up to replies to your post. Second......I guess because I have seen "Hater" so many times from WO-S concerning this buss program it kinda sticks in your head. Then I see two post saying the same thing.........I would of apologized BUT see my third comment. Third......You stated, "But your reaction to a post that was not directed to you leaves little doubt as to where you stand". Where I stand?? Why do you think I'm taking sides? Is it because I'm a "hater"? I hope not because that might put you in that bucket I was talking about earlier. Finally.........I stated very clearly in all my post that I hope the program continues. It's for a few reasons. The main is the kids. The second reason is I don't want to hear excuses if you guys loose a game next year :) .
  5. Why do Some WO-S posters think We (we = anyone not WO-S) have an underlying agenda to sabotage the football program? This is WO-S's mess, not anyone Else's. We did not take your buses away.....YOU took your buses away. In all the post that I have read, there is one common factor...........No one wants to punish the kids. Everyone either SUPPORTS the school boards decision or disagrees. No matter what side we take, it was WO-S that gave us either option. The SCHOOLBOARD made the decision to take away the buses and obviously supports their own decision. So, using the logic of "thebigswitch" and "speveto" who states everyone who wants the buses gone are haters, maybe you should focus your anger and concern to your own schoolboard? They must be "haters" as well. I can only speak for myself but I don't think everyone that disagrees with WOS is a hater. I do think that Aggies is a hater. He runs his mouth about something he knows nothing about just to stir the pot. I would expect more out of a moderator much less an Administrator. I think you have made your points and your opinions and we have agreed on somethings and disagreed on others but it has been civil between the two of us. Aggies just tries to stir the pot. Td, You are a stand up guy. The post AggiesAreWe made about WO-S posting I think was a joke gone bad. I know we disagree on that. We have agreed and disagreed on somethings, but that's what debate is all about. Keep up your post and your strong opinions!! You do look at both sides of the fence and I respect that!!

  7. On every application I have filled out there is an option to choose which employer they call. Typically most applicants will not want their current boss called, but will want all others called.
  8. Very well said. I agree with you. The kids should not suffer and if it keeps a few on the straight and narrow its worth every penny. I just wish tax payers didn't have to pay for parents that don't care.
  9. It takes a concerned parent to raise a child! The parent has to do their JOB! If they can't, then they shouldn't be parents! The old addage I go by is "take care of your kid"! That's how I feel about that subject. Now,back to the subject of the buses...........It would be a great program if they can approve it and afford it. I REALLY hope they keep them running! If they can't, maybe, just maybe someone should try to get the parents involved.
  10. Thanks. But if someone was let go without being told why, they can still file suit against the company for wrongful termination, right? It may be legal, but it doesn't seem to me that the company would want the immediate court costs. Especially in this sue-happy day and time. Was in HR as well.......Texas is a right-to-work state. This means that under the Texas Labor Code, a person cannot be denied employment because of membership or non-membership in a labor union or other labor organization. Texas is an at-will state, an employer can fire an employee with or without cause. The only exception would be if you are fired for an illegal reason. (Because of your gender, religion, political affiliation, age, etc). Most companies follow policies that are fair so that someone is not fired for an illegal reason.
  11. After reading your post on both WO-S threads, you seem to have the "poor me" attitude. If the school board cannot afford public transportation, it will be left to the parents. That's a fact you cant argue. I posted a message a few months ago.....after my divorce, quit a job that required nights and got a day job Mon - Fri with a serious enough paycut to have to sell my house. The benefit is I have 1/2 custody of my child and I'm off when hes not in school. We can't do as much financially, but we got each other. I'm not super dad, have made my mistakes, but at least I know what is important....taking care of my kid! There are a lot of national problems, rape, robbery, murder, etc.... We don't have to let them effect our communities. I agree and respect several WO-S posters, they all seem like great people. My son plays youth football and WO-S has some great athlete's. The parents that have the issues with the transportation needs to make some noise at the schoolboard. Its going to take more than 20 people. Mr. Chippy, You'll have to find someone else to throw that title on because I'm far from the "poor me"-type. My point is transportation is vital to many whose parents aren't there for whatever reason to get their kids for whatever reason. I can tell you that my kids probably wouldn't have been able to been active in any UIL events that they were involved in if it had not been for transportation at certain points in their school years. Honey, there is nothing pitiful about me or anything that has happened. I am just stating the facts and in a perfect world, all parents would be involved in their kids' lives more. Kudos to you for doing what you had to do as a parents and feel fortunate that you were able to do those things because some people just cannot do it or will not do it. No pity expected or accepted. Nice try though!!! ;) Mrs. Stang, You may have missed my point. All parents must set priorities as to what is important to them. Everyone seems to be upset with the school board for taking away a program that is not a requirement of the school. They do not have to transport kids to and from optional events. While I do think it is a worthwile program, it is not required, nor should it be expected from the school. What should be expected is the parents is to be involved in their child's life. I'm not asking the parents to do anything I have not done or the majority of most parents have not done. To just say "its a nation problem" and expect the school district to continue to do something they say they cannot afford is not solving any problem. If the root cause is the parents, then some energy should be spent trying to fix that issue. I applaud you for bringing kids home and taking up the slack of some parents, but is that really your responsibility? I know I have a hard enough time taking care of my one child. So, I will say again, Good Luck at the next meeting, I hope the entire town shows up. I hope the bus program continues to run for the sake of the kids. I also hope this is a wake up call and that something can be done to get parents more involved with their children! P.S. Mrs. Stang you sound like a strong women and a responsible mother!
  12. You see, that is why WO-S is so different and that is what many of the WO-S posters have been trying to say. You just proved the point. Many of the parents could care less about their kids. Why punish the kids because of this? I didn't prove a point, I stated the facts. I never mentioned punishing the kids. However, since you bring it up; If the parents are really that bad, don't you think you have a bigger issue than football? If I had to choose between parenting my kid and making sure he gets a ride to practice.......well, the answer is obvious. I go back to my last post........get more than 20 people at the next meeting. If they can't find a ride with this much notice........well, that's a different subject.

  14. I agree with you on the fact the players should be able to leave when they want. I completely disagree with your method of communication. Personally insulting someone that disagrees with you shows lack of character. I'm sure your a fine person, but you should think about how you communicate.
  15. I totally agree. I have said this before, but where are the parents in this equation?? The "cant's" or "wont's" do not fly with me. During football season, I dedicate 4 days per week to get my Son to practices and games. Sometimes it can be a challenge, but I make it happen. Having a bus program is a great idea, but if you can't afford it, you can't afford it. I think we all want something we can't afford.........but we live within our means. A parents #1 priority is keeping their children safe. The schools #1 priority is providing a "QUALITY" education while in a safe environment, NOT providing transportation to and from school for after school programs. Good luck with the bus program, I hope you get it back, If you don't, I hope the parents step up, get involved and take care of their children. You finally said something I can agree with. If we don't get it back I hope the parents find a way to get their kids back and forth. I also agree that the schools #1 priority is education. Look at our TAKS scores and then you can give our administrators a grade for how they have done with their #1 priority. I'm not sure how they think we will get different results by doing the same thing with the same people running the schools. I'm glad I have finally got your appoval...... ;D TD, I'm not trying to bash WO-S. Just trying to live in reality. I have not looked at the TAKS scores, but if they are not up to par, then something should be done. I also agree, the same actions will equal the same results.
  16. Congratulations to you. I do the same thing. Not everyone can do that. Can't or wont?? People are amazing.......they can do anything they want to do. It does not matter what city they live in. I truly believe that!
  17. We have a soccer team? Just kidding. I didn't get it at all. I didn't get why it mattered. Just don't read it if the WOS people are bothering you that much. I never played a down of high school football but I like to watch it. TD, I honestly think AggiesAreWe was making a joke about how well WO-S supports their football program. I did not take it negative at all. I have noticed that WO-S is all over the football boards.........my son plays youth and WO-S is just as aggressive at 8 years old. They dominated the youth forum.....along with Lumberton! So, be proud of your city's participation...........I think it's great!

  19. The school bus is a great idea.............I just do it the old fashion way and bring them to functions myself :-\
  20. AggiesAreWe.......I understood PERFECTLY what ya meant. Didn't seem all that confusing to me.
  21. What do you play better, Football or Politics??
  22. Every team has holes to fill year in and year out, but unless you have some sort of inside info/magic ball that us other Mustang fans don not have, the holes that need to be filled are few. There's an extremely strong core group of ponies, that will be bigger, stronger, & faster, including an undefeated JV squad that has not lost a game since their Jr. High days. The stable's are quite full for the next several seasons in Mustang Land. Trust me, and I DO have some inside info. ;)GO 'Stangs! I have to say one thing that WO-S has is CONFIDENCE!! :
