it will be good to see a coach that throws alot..we havent had that since terry townzen....to me it makes for a much more interesting game when you mix the pass with the run....and it is time to get to work now..you have to have someone that can throw..but mnost importantly you have to have people that can catch ..and that can protect.....

Bolten should have been a finalist to beging with..i have known him a long time and he works hard at whatever he is involved with...i havent always agreed with him on some issues but i think he would do fine and i think it is time for the board to take a chance on an in house guy for once and see what happens....and another reason why i would pick him over the other two is becasue i feel both the others will use this has a stepping stone where as bolten has been here he loves it here and unless he just does not get the job done he will be here for awhile.....and the last two times b.c. has hired a new ad there has always been two or three finalist from way outside this area that has withdrawn at the last minute..if i am not mistaken tarver was not the boards first choice.....i am not saying ther other two would not be good but i say go with bolten and give hiim his shot...he deserves it...

Of the four listed i would go with bickam or stumnp...None of the four listed are over impressive to me...would still like to see the list of other applicants....and would like to know who narrowed the list down...of course we all know who did the narrowing...stilll would have liked to see bolten get it....dont know alot about either bickam or stump....guess either one would be good....guess we will see

Cardinal supporter...I agree with every word you said...and mayb the reason johnson went through so many coaches is maybe they didnt want to do there job...when he came most of the coaches here seemed to just accept that we were never going to be able to compete in 4a and just showed up to collect there check....i know he was a very difficult person to work for but he got the job done and made the kids think they could compete....this is just my opinion but like i said before i have been here all my life and have probably missed maybe a average of one game a year and he did a good job as football coach...and i really dont care who they hire as long as it is someone that can put a competative team on the field every year becasue ther is no reason we cant compete for a playoff spot every year....and someone who cares about all sports....

i know it wouldnt happen in a million years but if he didnt have to be AD....i would bring him back as head football coach....he got us competetive in 4a where no one else could..i admit he had some very strange ways but he got the job done...

well lickety split you are right they have not always hired the best caoches and that goes for all sports..i was mostly talking football and not to get off the subject but here are the coaches starting with wilson and how i rank them...and just for the record i dont or never have had a kid play for any of these coaches her is the list and my few thought on each 1. chief wilson- should not have to explain this one 2. les johnson-not well liked but turned a losing program around and made coaches do there job and did what he thought was best and didnt let the parents control him..only down side was he didnt care about the other sports.. 3. andy griffin- won with the talent he had... good man...and cared about all sports..had the right coaches coaching the right sports....just didnt stick a coach somewhere for the heck of it 4. fred bolton- also cared about all sports respectful record let his coaches coach but stayed on top of everything 5. terry twonzen-i only put him this high up because he was the only coach we have had that liked to throw the ball 20 or thirty times a game...not the same old stuff week after week and i liked that. 6. james conway- not here long enough to form a accurate opinion....thought he was a great athelete director...great guy to talk to..... 7. claude tarver- know i will hear it about him being so low but all this is my opinion....good coach but not a good athlete director....not a good communicater....didnt get everything out of his players..once again just my opinion 8. gary sutton (not sure about his first name)-terrible..terrible..terrible... think this is all the coaches we have had as far back as i can remember anyway..once again my opinion and would like to know what other people thought about this list.....i just hope we get someone who not only is a good fb coach but a good leader because with the size of our school and the talent we have in this town we should be competative in all sports both boys and girls and we need someone that is going to get the right coaches in the right spots regardless of what everyone else thinks...period

b.c. should release the list just like other school districts do....but that is typical b.c....like someone siad they dont want to release the list because if people find out there was a well known coach or asst on the list and they hired someone else then there afraid they will hear about it..but we are paying all of the admin. salaries as tax payers so i think we have a right to know....i went to b.c. and have been here for all of their hires and pretty much they have hired the right person but i know they have let a few good ones get by them...i just dont understand why they think it has to be such a secret..becasue this is a small town and eventualy the list will get out even if its after the fact

i thought vsports said matthews told him face to face he didnt apply for the b.c. job....why would matthews tell someone face to face he didnt apply for a job that in fact he did apply for it....

i agree totally with licketysplit and cardinal supporter...b.c. should compete for a playof spot every year with its size.....and a good coach can get the most out of his players..of course he has to surround himself with a good staff from the middle school on up..and personally i dont think that has been done here in the past...the ad needs to be someone that takes interest in all levels and also all other sports no matter what it is....and he needs to make sure that all levels and all sports have the right people coahing them .....i am sure they have some great applicants and hopefully they will hire the right guy for the right reasons....i also think that schools like wos, newton , nederland and any other schools that are always competative is because they incouragge the kids from middle school up and try to keep them wanting to come back year after year..instead lossing kids after the first couple of years becasue they dont encourage them or find a way to run them off..and i know that has happened in the past....and that is the responisibilty of the ad...

i dont believe nederland is loaded with talent every year but they seem to make the playoffs year after year....and they are always in a tough 4a district....so tell me what is matthews record in vidor....all i am saying is you should hire the best applicant ....and i have mentioned before matthews had is chance to come to b.c....i dont care what the reason was for him not coming.....there was a man that was hired as a middle school principal a few years back but he changed his mind and didnt come...well when he applied for the supt. job he was one of the finalist and in my opinion the best person for the job but they didnt hire him..and i personally feel if he hadnt pulled out of the principals job he would have been the new supt...oh and he's a b.c. boy to.....

i am with lickeyitsplit..i dont care where you are from..they should hire the best applicant...if they are going to stay in house then bolten is the man ..but if they are going to hire the best applicant then if bolton is the man so be it...but of the names that have been mentioned there is three people on the list i would hire before matthews...we want someone that can win with the talent he has and matthews cannot do that.....and in my opinion neither could tarver....he is a good coach but with little talent he couldnt win....example 2003, 2004 and 2006..granted he went to the playoffs in 2004 but they called destroyed by bh and that year wos was the only decent team in the district..we need a proven winner period.....

True i dont know the reason matthews didnt come to b.c. the last time, but i assume it was becasue he felt committed to his players at vidor. which is fine but he had his chance and passed it up. but when it comes down to it if it would be between matthews and bolton then i go with bolton becasue he is a motivater and he knows the kids and i think he could win. i still dont thnk matthews can win. and i could be dead wrong but that is my opinion..or course i am with orangboy..i would hire jacob and let stevie be the defensive coordinator..those are two dedicated men with love for all bc sports....i would venture to say they have attended more non football events than even the ad has

smalley is a good coach and the kids like him but he has been a coordinater for one year....he needs a couple of more years has a oc then try to get a 1a or small 2a job..besides as a ad the parents in bridge city would eat him up...they would make hm want to change professions...just my opinion...i still say bolton or huckaby......whatever they do they need to do it by the end of january and since bolton is the only current staff member that would have a shot let him run the off-season program ...of course we are assuming bolton would be interested....and if he is would he stay if he didnt get the job.....dont think i could if i applied and didnt get it...and my opinionis based on names that have been thrown out....there may be a sleeper that might apply that might would change my mind..it will be interesting

oh i forgot huckaby..if it isnt bolton then it should be him..b.c guy and has won where he has been before....think he has applied before. actually i am still laughing that smalleys name would even be mentioned...

Why would you hire a guy that turned down the job once and has a losing record where he is. Vidor's football team has been the most inconsistent team in the area over the last three or four years. Know way i would hire matthews. Smalley is to young to be an ad. at a big 3a school. Could not handle the pressure of an ad job at this point. Of all the people mentioned bolton would be a good choice. he has no head coach experience but he has been around long enough to give hime a shot. And he is the only one on staff now that might get it. If not him then i would go outside the area. But no way i give it to matthews. He had his chance. If you are hiring someone that can motivate and that is it then he is the guy but if you want a motivater and someone that can win then he is definitley not the guy.

no way b.c deserved to be in the playoffs....and i will say this and i have said it before...as long as the current coach is here they will only go to the playoffs if they are loaded with talent..period....this has already been proofed....1st year loaded with talent three deep in the playoffs....2nd year rebuilding no playoffs....third year pretty decent talent with a good group of juniors with some talented seniors and a very good sophmore...got blasted first round..fouth year loaded again with good senior class and a few good juniors...three deep..fifth year rebuilding ...no playoffs...with our enrollment numbers even in this district we should be contending for at least the third spot every year..and getting blown out by the top three teams in the district is not contending..and i dont care what anybody says and i am not knocking any of the kids but without dishon this year we would have been seventh or eight in the district..period

never will happen..they will be lucky to beat hampshire..wos has to much speed and they will not be abl;e to stop thomas or garrett with their defense....they gave up over 400 yards to kirbyville they could easily give up 5 or 6 hundred yards to wos...and until they get more physically and agressive they want be going to the playoffs for awhile....

horndawg the game you played in b.c must have been in the 50's if the supertindent was a ref....i have lived here all my life and know all the supertidents siince the early 70's and i can guarantee you none of them have ever refereed a football game....but it should be a good game even if the present super...refs and i heard he might so you might want to warn the coachng staff

hope kirbyville does well in the playoffs the only thing that stopped them was the playcalling...fake punt on your own 20 early in the game..that was idiotic..and rhodes would carry the ball until they stopped him if i was calling the plays..diggles is good put rhodes is the real deal....and kville offensive line pshed bc all over the field...our kids are nowhere near aggressive or physical enough....and did we not have any linebackers last night.....i have no idea what is is but it seems our linebacker position has been weak for the last few years....not since the melich verrett combination have we had two good quick linebackers that made play after play..not knocking any kid but just telling the truth

b.c will have to throw the ball more..of course they will have to catch it when they throw it.....dont thnk they will be able to rely on running the ball only....i would like to see what they could do if they put dishon and mills in the backfield and stringer at q.b. maybe run out of the split backfield or a power I....and if kirbyville throws alot b,c, could be in trouble..escpecially if they throw to the flats alot...think it will be a close b.c. win or a kirbyville blow out
