No doubt this is not the team from last year or the year before , this is just another well coached talented group of athelete s for WOS. This group is undefeated and have persevered some tough challenges, they will not surprise me if they win it all.

West Orange-Stark 28 Madisonville 26/FINAL

Agree, no weak teams left, turnovers and mistakes will tell the tale. Gotta give it to the stangs for hanging in there and battling last night. High school football at its best. -

Congrats to the Stangs , hard fought win. Merchant was a load, and we still haven’t blocked #72. Defense played a great game with the exception on one blown coverage. We should have not kicked deep after the first long runback. That almost cost us this game. Put the defense on its heels to many times. On to regional final , the streak continues. -

West Orange Stark Mustangs vs Mexia Blackcats
MMstangfan replied to WOSFAN99's topic in High School Football
On the nail, why not try to emulate WOS . It’s a proven formula. Never can be sure how Mexia will react. I believe they will make mistakes being over hyped up. And you can’t make mistakes against the Mustangs , they will capitalize . Cornell will have them ready , gotta come out focused and execute . -
When West Orange Cove and Stark High combined to become WOS in 1977 the kids got to vote on school colors and mascot. It was not a popular decision at the time, but it was the right decision for the school district. I was a West Orange Chief and I have a lot of friends who were Stark Tigers, Now we all sit together at WOS games.

I also used Chrome , but on an older machine over DSL , so occasional freeze up, but I had two different games going .

If you can’t make the games you can watch them live on Texanlive.com . You do have to pay a fee. You can buy a playoff pass for $29 that covers all the broadcasts , you can also watch previous games .

West Orange-Stark vs. Brookshire Royal

Yes KOGT will broadcast the game, but I will be there, love going to these playoff games. Hopefully injury free game. Undisciplined teams with nothing to lose can be a problem. -

My main concern about playing these playoff games with a 1 - 8 team is the possibility of injury’s which will hurt us going forward . -
Ok I’ll let you get by with that Snuff ! Lol

Chad was a huge asset this year and will be even more valuable next year, those deep kick offs and the ability to kick field goals . Great work Chad and Kicker and TD for supporting his kids in every way possible .

Comparing 2016 attendance at the state games to 2015
MMstangfan replied to dillonpanthers's topic in High School Football
AT&T gives metroplex schools an advantage., They have home field advantage . The team sleeps at home the night before the game, they practice at their facilty the day before the game . Their fan base doesn't have to travel , which is costly . A number of them play other playoff games at the venue . It's setup for NFL football , not high school. So familiarity with the venue is an advantage . Definitely a disadvantage for the lower classification having to play on Wednesday and Thursday , short prep week. As a fan I love going and watching 5 or 6 games over two days . But I really believe what is best for teams and their fans is to let the two teams pick the venue for their game . But it appears money hungry entities have railroaded high school football in Texas. -
Great season Mustangs , Capped off a 16 win season with a great win. This group was surly special. I think they could have come back out and won the Div 1 game. Was at the game Friday , recorded the game and watched it back this morning. My thoughts about the game didn't change , I give Sweetwater props , for playing hard, but the outcome for me was never in question . The Fox Announcers were certainly biased But we've become used to that , can anyone remember a broadcast where WOS was involved that they were not. Unprofessional to say the least. Best of luck to all the seniors . For the underclass men, defense of the title starts on Monday.

I bet they are working on punting it out of bounds .

Orange County Texas let's go who going Friday
MMstangfan replied to WOS36's topic in High School Football
Leaving Thursday with 3 Others in tow. I've made all the other state champ games with exception of '88 with Paris. Lets go meet em . -
Everyone talks about how fast this team is . Speed is nothing new at WOS , just take a look at UIL track history. East Texas always talks about speed , and they are correct, it s in South East Texas.l
-
Sweetwater has a good team, looks like Gilmer also had a good team, as did Navarro , Giddings , Robinson , Kennadale, Silsbee, Liberty but they all ran into an execptional WOS team. To many weapons , to much speed , and the heart of a champion .
-
Gilmer and Sweetwater both look like "good" football teams , and so was Navarro and Giddings and Robinson and Kennedale and Silsbee but they ran into a "Real Good" football team.

A huge thanks to all the folks that came out to support WOS last night at NRG. I saw many schools represented . And it was like a reunion for me with many of my class mates from the Houston area in attendance .

West Orange Stark vs Navarro State Semifinal

I've had folks from PNG, Vidor , BC , LCM , Nederland , Orangefield all tell me they are coming to support the Stangs - Rock the house. -
Southeast Texas schools have an abundance of very good atheletes , the difference at WOS is the program that has been in place for many years , basic skills , blocking , tackling . Discipline is essential and Cornell requires it. Conditioning is a key , you will very rarely see a mustang with a cramp or bent over with his hands on his knees trying to get some air . We've played against some great atheletes over the years , epic battles with Jasper come to mind , but they could not go 4 quarters at the mustang pace. Last and maybe most important - consistency in very good coaching . But even that suffered at WOS during some periods , we had the teams , but our play selection was not what was required to win 3 or 4 rounds deep. The perfect storm has been brewing the last several years . But we will lose some of those good coaches, we always have, many went on the be very successful , Barry Norton at Texas high comes to mind. Several state championships , I think maybe he took that mustang program with him. I for one would love to see SE Texas teams become state power houses , just takes disciplined hard work.
