  1. Congratulations to Canyon on their 'Umteenth" Championship.  Good grief! - how do they perpetuate themselves like that?

Canyon has the best Girl's BB coach in Texas combined with a "we're expected to win state" mentality. Same is true of the 1A Nazareth Swiftettes. Canyon was successful before Joe Lombard became coach and won State championships under Bob Schneider.

  2. The UIL need s to come up with a different plan. Region 4 is horrible. The best 4 teams are not in the state tournament. Canyon is good but come on 70-34. Like I said before there are 26 teams in region 1, 50 teams in region 2, 53 teams in region 3 and 39 teams in region 4. Llano would not even make the playoffs in 21 3A. This is a crock.

Canyon is that good. They have the best girl's BB coach ( Joe Lombard ) in the state. He has won several state championships at both the 1A level (Nazareth) and 3A level (Canyon). I don't recall if he won a state championship when Canyon was a 4A school.

I've never seen Llano play so I won't comment on their potential to compete in 21 3A but I have seen Canyon play numerous times as well as teams from 21 3A and IMO there's not a single team from 21 3A that would have done a better job against Canyon than Llano did. Frankly, I don't think any of the 4A teams from this area could compete with Canyon either.

As a whole, the quality of Girl's BB played in the Panhandle and South Plains area is much higher than anything I've seen played in SE Texas.

  3. Something else to consider... Could be a more emotionally charged game for Tatum, since their AD was at EC as recently as 3 years ago -- AND -- Harrison Hartt's dad was also once an administrator for EC.

Of course, if EC's on, nobody can beat our starting talent and our deep athletic bench.

Last time I looked, neither Andy Evans or Hartt's daddy will be on the court so I doubt their past affiliation with EC will play much, if any of a factor for either team. ;D

  4. Congratulations to both young men. They represented themselves and their schools very well last night. Hopefully both will find continued success on the college gridiron.

The award ceremony was nothing short of first rate. The Beaumont Founder's Lions Club, BASF and other sponsors need a big round of applause for sponsoring a banquet that will be remembered for a lifetime by the award winners and finalists.

    Well done!
