There has to be secret talks between Lamar and the SBC. Could the SBC be so short-sighted as to just hand over the 10th world largest economy, 2nd largest state, most football talent rich state over to the WAC. With the exception of Florida, Texas has a larger pop. than the remaining SBC states combined. And the SBC will just hand over Texas for free. I'm not buying it.

The WAC isn't pretty but Lamar still has a small chance to get invited, but would the local fans be happy about it? If Lamar stays in the SLC they'll have McNeese, SFA and SHSU as rivals but overall it's depressing to even think about it. The Sun Belt is now getting picky so does Lamar have any chance of rejoining that conference?
I can't believe you still want Lamar in the WAC. YUCK. The Sunbelt does not want to give up Texas to the WAC. The Sunbelt could grab Lamar to get the Houston area recruits. It would be nutts for the SBC to sit back and let the WAC take Houston along with Austin, San Antonio, and DFW. There might already be a tug-a-war between the SBC and WAC for a Houston school. Lamar and Sam. I say let the WAC take Sam, Lamar goes SBC.
I prefer the SBC and Dr. Simmons prefers the SBC but I haven't seen one indication that the SBC wants Lamar. It's easy to name the reasons why the SBC should invite Lamar but until I see one shred of evidence (or even a rumor) that the SBC is looking at Lamar then for now it's either the WAC or the SLC.
Have you seen the indication of the WAC wanting Lamar. hint hint the WAC added 3 non-football schools. Coach, think about it. The WAC could use it's Texas presence to crush the SBC in football in time. The SBC needs to counter by adding another Texas school in or near Houston. Who would that be? Or do you really think the SBC will allow the WAC to take those Houston recruits along with San Antonio, Austin, and DFW. Think about it coach, I can't believe its not so obvious to you. Texas is the gold mine, the WAC has 3 and the SBC has 1. And that 1 wants out.

The WAC has become the freak show. Lamar needs the Sunbelt invite to go FBS. If not, Lamar will be stuck in the Southland. So who will be our new conference mates. My pick would be Abilene Christian-Abilene TX POP. 115,000 West Texas AM-Canyon TX-12,000 10 miles from Amarillo Tx POP 180,000 Midwestern-Wichita falls-107,000 Rumor has it the SLC is looking at Abilene Christian Texas AM Commerce Incarnate Word

Yessssssssssssss, this could happen. In a parallel universe and not this one. -

Personally I think LU would've lost out financially if they would've went to WAC on travelling etc. I think Sunbelt would be a better option. As it stands now, I think SLC is where LU will have to stay for a while IMO.
The odds are good the Lamar will get the invite to the WAC next year. The WAC will probably end up with 12 to 14 teams with divisions so travel won't be that bad. Dr. Simmons has said the goal is to be bowl eligible by 2015. Getting an invite next year puts Lamar right on track to be fully FBS by 2015.
[Hidden Content]= -
Have you even been to the campus in the past 5 years UNLV? A lot has changed since Dr. Simmons took over and 90+% of it is for the better. Dr. Simmons helped bring back football! You make it out that he was responsible for what happened 20+ years ago! I for one trust the man, becuase he has prooven himself.
Was Dr Simmons president when LU dropped football? c'mon dude, lets not make arguments for argument sake. If you trust him, fine. I believe even the best makes mistakes sometimes. I want to shine the light on all possible scenarios. LU probably never would have dropped to the SLC if the fans would have spoken up. -
Negativity wont get you far........neither will reading any other boards from other schools. If fans from other schools read LU boards then you would think that LU was better than any other school in the country in all sports. Boards are biased......I have all the faith in the world in LU and President Simmons.......LU will do what is best for LU and not what people think is best for LU!!!!
Was that your attitude when LU dropped football and dropped to the SLC. Dr Simmons and co has shown they can make mistakes. We as fans shouldn't passively hide and make LU leadership out as the perfect messiah. We should keep the ideas flowing. Keep them thinking about all possibilities. Think of it as a space ship in an asteroid field. Do you want everyone to sit quietly and hope the driver sees all the asteroids or to inform the driver of a nearby asteroid? -
Fans can be as furious as they want, if the institution isn't furious or looking to move, it doesn't matter.
La Tech leaders has been clear on wanting out of the WAC. They didn't want to join ULM in the SBC. ULM is struggling and may not survive the FBS which opens the door to Tech. -
La Tech is furious with the WAC. Even the hardcore anti-SBC fans are now saying La Tech should take a second look at the SBC. What is Lamar doing? being quiet and passive. Lamar needs not piss off the SLC by announcing FBS, However Lamar could release stadium expansion plans. At least put some make up on to attract the SBC. If Tech decides to leave the WAC for the SBC, LU can forget about ever going FBS.
Lamar would be better off in the Sun Belt, but they probably have to go through the WAC to get there. But joining the WAC would really suck for Lamar if La Tech left because the closest team would be Texas State 5 hours away.
The WAC is in a civil war. La tech wants out more than ever, so does Utah st. If La tech goes Sunbelt, do you honestly want LU in the WAC? [Hidden Content]
Let Sam take it. Lamar is better off going Sunbelt. Lamar needs to go Sunbelt quickly before UTSA and Texas st realize their mistake.
You make it sound like Lamar has an option on which conference they go to, but the fact is that a conference has to invite Lamar.
Lamar needs to get off its butt and make the invite happen. The WAC didn't pull UTSA.Tex st names out of a hat. Those schools were loud about going FBS. They said we are ready, willing, and able. Even Sam Houston is making noise while Lamar is being passive and iffy. Here is a scenario that scares the heck out of me. ULM drops out of the Sunbelt, La Tech joins in their place. Results, zero opportunity for LU to go FBS.

I still say if you continue with what your playing, that in 3 to 5 years you won't be getting 15k to games IMO.
maybe they schedule pote neches to keep your attention
Talk trash all you want to, I'm just speaking the truth. Love it or hate, I don't care. Why is it that you have to bring Port Neches into it? We probably do have the same attendance for our games as LU, and more in about 3-5 years ;D Blame the Boremont newspaper for bringing the topic up, and blame your coach for telling the fans to quit living in the past. Pretty arrogant statement to make to fans that are suppose to back the new program. You beg for millions to be donated just to have a sub par schedule? I think fans expect alot and fast. I still say I will wait 3-5 years and we'll see. I hope LU goes to the next level and competes. Maybe you can be the ball boy Puddin?
I was thinking the same thing, Woodard has an Abatemarco mouth.
Woodard gave an accurate assessment about certain fans on the two major Lamar boards... but we'll leave it for what it is.
"These people on the Internet who think it's going to happen, they're living 30 years ago," Woodard said. "I'm sorry. Why would Baylor pass up millions of dollars to come here? It's just not going to happen. They need to let that go."
Anyone who has a clue needs to realize that as some of you have said - a BCS team will not come to Lamar until it is an FBS team. There are the odd exceptions (Ball State is heading to Illinois State in the next few years). Lamar will be able to get BCS teams when that move to FBS occurs, just like Texas St-San Marcos is set to do and even schools like ULM (Baylor coming up) and UL-Lafayette (Oklahoma State) have done. You can not tell me that a FBS-level ULM can do something that a FBS-level Lamar can not do. Dabe is so confused and off-base with his assessment. If he is going to write an article based on what UNLV has to say to get some attention, the Beaumont Enterprise really is stretching for content.
I never said Lamar could bring in a FBS school while still FCS. I know the rule. One of my arguments for moving up to FBS was so that we can get FBS schools into Beaumont. Nice try Terror. Everyone saw Terror trying to start Jerry Springer mess? So SHSU like...
-
Its called reality!
What exactly is this reality? Everyone knows no FCS, like Lamar, can bring in a FBS. That is reality. It is not reality if Lamar goes FBS. I don't get the point of this article. It seems like Woodard would have done better in not doing this interview.
-
What is scarey is the way Woodard said it. It is like he has no vision and can't think outside the box. I would hate to think we have a small mind running Lamar football. I am curious to where he saw someone post on the internet that a FCS Lamar can host any FBS. I never saw on that on SETXSPORTS. Maybe another site. I like to add ULL recently hosted Big 12 Okie st. Maybe Woodard thinks if Lamar could never be a big boy like ULL.
If Wichita State brought back football then I wouldn't mind them and Missouri State joining the conference. I doubt either one would leave the MVC unless they had FBS aspirations, which for now seems very, very unlikely. But I think it's possible the teams you list could be the core of the "new" WAC in 3 or 4 years from now because I think Utah State, San Jose State and Idaho will exit the WAC the first chance they get.
Wichita st is on the fence for bring back football. Missouri st is on the fence too for FBS. This conference could push them over. The only obstacle is the MVC high basketball rating.
