The PAC 10/12 commissioner mentioned a week or two ago that he thinks there's a lot of alignment/expansion on the horizon in the next year or two.  The MWC may still end up taking Utah State and/or San Jose State.  The WAC needs to get to at least 8 football schools by 2014.  A lot of the BCS schools want more FBS teams so they can rack up more wins and get bowl eligible.
This is what pissed me off. Comcast wants SJSU in the MWC and they just might make it in. They are on the way out but blocks Lamar from coming in.
I've also read that the NCAA is unhappy that the FCS playoffs is a money loser.  There's really no incentive to force schools to stay at the FCS level if they want to move up and have the money. Lamar now has an extra year or two to build up the football program and the whole athletic department before jumping to FBS.  The WAC is probably the way to go but one raid of the SBC will open up that conference too.
Also the possibility of ending FBS/FCS and all schools play at 1 level.
 2.
well, since you brought it up first...I'm hearing U of H to the big east.
Me too. Hopefully before July 1st.

Lamar could get an invite for football only and act as UALR football to keep the balance. The SLC did put in place a rule preventing schools in the SLC from joining other conferences as football members. I think something can be worked out since Lamar has yet to join SLC football.
Lamar has already joined the Southland Conference for football - it is pretty ironclad at this point. Have they played a SLC game? Nope - but they are on all the schedules for next year and counting as a league game.
If Lamar had joined the WAC, would Lamar be eligible for the SLC football crown?
 4. One concern I have always had was going to the WAC and then having a conference shift then Lamar gets stuck out west alone. Well the WAC cured that fear. Conference realignment is far from dead. We know 1. BE may take Houston to partner with TCU. 2. BE is going to take UCF to partner with USF. Orlando, Houston, DFW market. They would have to be as stupid as the WAC to pass on those markets. So that leaves CUSA at 10 schools. The question becomes does UTEP want to stay in CUSA?  or does the MWC look more attractive. Keep in mind El Paso is closer to California than to Houston. MWC passed on SJSU and San Jose sits in a mega-market. So I wouldn't rule out USU and Utep getting the MWC invite. The MWC is waiting on the Big 12 to break up,not gonna happen. Maybe BYU will join the Big 12. This still leaves CUSA with 10 or 9 members. Who will CUSA invite? I say at least 1 SBC. I do not know which SBC school. Maybe one of the Florida schools. I would put UNT, MTSU, and La Tech as last resort options. We must keep and eye on ULM. This school is half Lamar size, in a poor state, in a small town, and a athletic budget smaller than FCS Lamar or any of the Texas SLC football schools. With budget cuts coming in 2012, do the math. If SBC loses 2 schools, they are down to 8 football. 3 schools, they lose FBS status. So don't buy into that SBC won't add FCS schools. They will after the BE makes a move. Lamar could go SBC in 2013.
 5. Cola, c'mon. The best solution for the WAC needing 1 more football member was a FBS joining the WAC. Didn't happen. The 2nd best is a FCS moved quickly to FBS. Well they have Lamar but didn't take them. Why? because they don't want Lamar. But you say next year UTSA, Tex st, and Denver will get Lamar the needed votes. So if that is the case, why don't Idaho and San Jose do the smart thing by inviting Lamar and moving them to FBS quickly? Is it out of spite?  Hold the conference hostage for a year?  Beg and plead for an alternative to Lamar. I say no invite now, no invite ever. I will have no respect for Tubbs and Simmons if they allow the WAC to force them to beg on their knees. Lets join the SBC. I with ya puddin.
 6. Lamar should have a plan B ready, the SBC. Lamar could get an invite for football only and act as UALR football to keep the balance. The SLC did put in place a rule preventing schools in the SLC from joining other conferences as football members. I think something can be worked out since Lamar has yet to join SLC football.
 7. If the WAC decides to remain 7 needing an 8th football by denying Lamar, that would be a major slap in the face.
 8. I doubt they would add that many non-football schools.
 9. Scratch UCO, They joined another DII conference.
 10. I like Midwestern st too. 14,500 stadium in a city of 100,000.

It will hurt the La schools, but they should manage to hold on. The SLC is not dying, it looks to be getting stable. The schools that want out is leaving and those who want stay will join those who want in; UCO and ACU.
Don't forget Tarleton, they're an option as well. Solid facilities and winning programs across the board.
Tarleton talked about moving up, but they seem to be backing off. West Texas might attract some from the Amarillo market especially if they move a few home games to Amarillo. Good read, [Hidden Content]

 13. I wonder what SFA is thinking. SHSU would not be allowed to play at SFA and SFA won't only play at SHSU. Without that game SHSU already low attendance will drop further unless some huge names play at SHSU.
 14.
Probably talking about Lamar upset of Baylor in the 80s.
Lamar victory over the top 25 Southwest Conference champs is more impressive than many of those victories listed.
 15. The SLC needs to add ACU and UCO now. ACU has money, UCO is bigger than Lamar. 2 football schools. With Lamar that makes 10 football schools in the SLC. South Mcneese Southeastern Nicholls st Sam Houston Lamar Corpus Christi North Central Ark Central Okl Abilene Christian UTA SFA Northwestern
 16.
Do you have some inside info UNLV?
No, the clues are there. My concern is it will happen for 2013, not 2012. I hope it is 2012, lets move on.
 17.

I said on this forum before, Dr Simmons does think small and limited like most SETX leaders. Your kind of thinking would keep LU growth dead.
This is where you are wrong. Let me tell you the fundamental problem in this area. No one can get behind anything in SeTx unless it is the biggest and best. Well sorry you don't get to that point immediately you have to build to it, that is how all the other schools have done it and that is how Lamar WILL do it, with or without you. So you are the small minded one, if you honestly think Lamar has a shot at being FBS in 2 or 3 years you are very ignorant of the situation. It's not only that we don't have the dough at the moment it's that no conference has us on even a top 10 list. The mentality that LU has to go FBS or everyone will be disillusioned and quit caring is the small mindedness I speak of, people with that attitude are what keep this area from real growth. I will keep supporting LU to the end I will be at every game, I will buy the merchandise, I will tell everyone about the truly great things that are happening daily at my university. After graduation when I'm making the big bucks I will donate hundreds or a thousand each year to support the athletics and academics of Lamar. Why would I do these things? Because I love the school and the area and I'm committed to it's continuous growth. Anyone who will abandon LU just because they CAN'T AFFORD FBS in a 2 to 3 year timeline is the small minded dim wit that keeps this area from growth. Stop saying I'm the small minded one, I have supported this area with everything I have, that is what it takes. Do you have the guts to do the same?
me small mind and ignorant of the situation?

Should we move to DII? I'm just using your logic. No other school uses such insane logic to keep itself down and out. Yet flourish in so many minds here and in SETX. Texas st and UTSA fans must be laughing TAO at the mindset on this forum.
They are laughing alright..............it is just at you.  Trust me when I say this that Lamar is not going anywhere for quite some time!!!! A. Because they will not have a chance to. B. Because they want to be succesful in at least one of the two major sports before making the jump.
trust you?
