There would need to be at least 50,000 fan's and the average ticket would need to cost $18 dollars. This is just to get to $900,000. That isn't paying a rental fee for the use of Reliant Stadium or as a lot of colleges do. Pay for the traveling cost of the visiting team.
Fans from Austin, 5 million in Houston, and several thousands from SETX would yield more than 50,000 at Reliant. Funny how you twist the numbers down and leave out concessions and parking and advertising. Your formula would have bankrupt the Texans long ago. And the huge recruiting plus gained by Lamar in the Houston area has no price.
So, you want a home game where the other team out draws the Cardinals? Man, I'm not trying to twist anything. I'd love for Lamar to have a fan base to draw 50,000. I didn't think about concessions, parking or advertising. I'm a nurse not an accountant. If we get beat by 50 there will be no recruiting plus. Why do you think Coach Woodard didn't want the SFA game on TV?
Would you be shocked if Texas out draw Lamar at Reliant? Would you be shocked if Texas won by 50? This game would earn Lamar more money and exposure. And I would hope Woodard understand he was not hired to hide Lamar from SFA or any school. Nobody expect LU to beat Texas, just put up a good fight.

I still say being in the WAC will allow Lamar to attract better home games than if they stayed in the SLC.  No FBS teams will come to Beaumont if Lamar stays in the SLC, not even Sun Belt teams.  So just being in the WAC allows a better non-conference schedule, and they could still schedule McNeese if they wanted to. Which of these conference home schedules would draw more fans? Typical SLC home slate: Nicholls State, SFA, McNeese, SLU Typical WAC home slate: Utah State, SJSU, UTSA, La Tech One other thing, would Lamar have a good crowd for a Thursday night ESPN game?
The only competition in the area on a Thurs night is Fresh/JV football games. Thursday ESPN game would definitely sell out.
Agreed... I still say once LU go FBS, Lamar should go after a home game in Reliant with Texas or AM.
why would that be a HOME game?
Because Texas would not give up a home game to play Lamar at Reliant. Lamar would need to give up the home game. Red, you are wrong, Lamar would make far more money playing Texas at Reliant vs Texas in Austin.
 4. At UNLV we had each dorm organize trips to the game. We would march to the Thomas and Mack as a group. We did the same thing for football. We'll we didn't march to Sam Boyd, those without cars took the city bus. It was fun going as a group.

I preferr LU go 40,000.
now list the avg. attendance for those skools remaining in the WAC I'd rather LU be a very hard ticket to get than a half full 30k seater
Puddin, you'd need to have athletic facilities that compare to others in the same conference. Lamar has great football facilities compared to other SLC schools but not with the WAC or even the Sun Belt. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
I'll do it for ya Idaho 16,000    12,000 LaTech 30,000     20,000 New Mex 30,000   16,500 SJSU 30,500          15,300 add in san marcos and their weak attendance...aint real impressive
Didn't Sam Houston have a football game with only 2,000, less than LU basketball.

 7.
I agree there is no need for a 40K stadium in Beaumont. However, I'd like to see a 30K stadium with all the bells and whistles.
setx is probably the only place on Earth where you have to drag fans kicking and screaming away from the think limited mentality.
 8. If LU can dump that jv mentality most have of Lamar, our 500,000 population can fill an 80,000 seat stadium. No, i'm not saying should build a 80,000 seat stadium.
 9. Boise st  33,500 Fresno 41,000 Idaho  16,000 La Tech 30,000 Hawaii  50,000 Nevada 30,000 New Mwxico 30,000 SJSU  30,500 UTSA  65,000 Texas st  16,000 Utah st  25,000 Lamar could add 13,000 and be in the pack. I preferr LU go 40,000.
 10. SETX has everything needed for LU to be successful in local support. The problem is many people still see LU as JV second class. Once we get away from playing NAIA or DII/III schools, then the respect and support will grow.
 11. FBS will give Lamar an advantage in recruiting over regional FCS schools.
 12. That is exactly Benson problem, the wait and see guy. He needs to take charge. First, if MWC takes Utah st, no effect on Lamar going WAC next week. I would ask the MWC to take SJST and Idaho too. PS. CUSA is not inviting La Tech. Small school and no market. Any CUSA school would be nutts to go MWC. Maybe a CUSA team or 2 might go Big East, not MWC. Lamar suppose to be a top engineering school, well engineer an expanded stadium.
 13. I don't see any hold ups. Lamar should join Monday and start preparing right now. Unless LU is waiting on that CUSA invite. I want to see a Big 12 school, like Okie st, in Beaumont in 2012.
 14. If we are going, lets go. No need to waste months.
 15.

what does pomeroy have for the mens game coach. i say ladies by atleast 20 and the men get it done at home as well by 7
Pomeroy predicts a 78-77 loss. [Hidden Content]
Close...78-76.
 16. La Tech forum is screaming angry about Lamar joining the WAC. It sicken them to have Lamar in the same conference with the great La Tech.
 17. The WAC is also targeting ULL and UNT[again]. ULL, UNT, and La tech are bugger rivals than SFA and SHSU ever was and is. Lets hope ULL and UNT jumps. I know UNT wants the CUSA invite, but that is unlikely. The WAC with UTSA TSU Lamar Denver NM st ULL Missouri st....my future prediction Ark st... would follow UNT and ULL. is a better fit for UNT than the Sunbelt. Wake up UNT.
 18.
besides a possible bowl game on espn 2 in front of 11,000 people in a 60,000 seat stadium... what is a benefit of joining the wac?  a bunch of teams, far away, that people in se texas could care less about. its the worst FBS conference in the nation...why is it soooo much better than the southland?
What happens in June when Louisiana schools must cut 30% of their budgets? Stick our heads in the sand? PS. Don't listen to Terror. WAC will not lose it's bid.
 19.

besides the auto invite to play eastern or western michigan in the Beefo'Brady bowl...whats the point of this conference?? crappy football, baseball, basketball southland or sunbelt
The WAC has better football, baseball and basketball than the Southland, even without the departing schools.  The Sun Belt doesn't have any openings so that's not an option.
please elaborate!  the WAC ranks barely above the sunbelt in baseball ...and that is with the big dogs still in the WAc..take away the teams leaving you aint got squat....football...one, if not the ONE, worst attendance records of any FBS conference..i'll give ya bball..cuz we got roc
A weak WAC makes it easier for Lamar to get in a ESPN Bowl game.
 20. Excellent point Terror, Lamar needs to start talking to FBS schools right now. I'm not sure how much more I can take Lamar playing these NAIA schools. Texas vs Lamar at reliant dome. Even an expanded Cardinal stadium is just too small for UT vs Lamar.
 21. Lets not get excited yet. Lamar can't move up unless Sam Houston st moves up. ;D Go suck an egg Terror....lol.
 22.
No surprise here either.  With his Dad gone and the injuries that Riley sustained over the past few years, Riley needs to transfer to D1A(FCS) football.  He's a heckuva player, tough as boot leather, and fun to watch.  Just a a different level.  Sorry to see him leave UNT. Riley would be a good pick up for Lamar. He has two years of eligibility left.  Here's the ESPN article. Dodge
pass....
 23. I have posted many example many times of AQ schools playing at Sunbelt and WAC schools. Monroe hosted Arkansas and Alabama. Monroe is a much smaller city than Beaumont. ULM is half Lamar size. So many of times I asked what Monroe offered to recieve a visit by AQ schools but Lamar would be unable to do?  is it bribes? women?  voodoo?  Yet the only response is the same broken record, "Nobody will come to Beaumont." So it is not wishful thinking on my part, but rather extremely limited thinking on you all part. This is so scarey too me because all it takes is 1 person in a strong position at Lamar whom share this limited mentallity to screw Lamar for another few decades.
