1.
Totally agree with your comments AggiesAreWe. We have to do it the right way and IMO it is to take it slow but be ready if the right opportunity occurs and be ready to take action.
What opportunities in the future?  The Sunbelt has several schools, ahead of LU, in line ready to join. Once full, no conference will go 13 or 15 just so lil ole LU can join. So can anyone tell me what future opportunity?
 2.
Man, you guys are hammering UNLV. I agree he is over-the-top with some of his comments but with all the conference realignment talk it is only astute for Lamar to look at all their options. Do I think we are headed for a FBS conference in the next couple of years, no. But there is even talk about the SLC taking in Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M on anygivensaturday. If Texas State, UTSA, and SHSU leave the SLC, Lamar won't be far behind. SLC - Open to Inviting Texas Southern, Prairie View? [Hidden Content]
They can hammer away. I will never buy into this SETX no growth mentality. This area hasn't grown in 40 years, yet pats on the back and hand shakes, 'good job Bill, good job Bob' We have an airport with 1 airline flying to 1 city, Houston  ::). If you want to fly to Dallas, you have to drive to Lake Charles. 'good job Bill, good job Bob'. This is crazy. Scared to invest, scared to grow, scare for LU outside of the Southland. UNT, ULL, Ark st, and La tech probably are still laughing at the idiots at LU and the SETX mentality. I hope Dr Simmons stay far away from the SETX mentality.
 3.

I bet Lamar has already talked to the WAC but isn't ready to make the jump now.  La Tech's travel budget was around $2.5 million in 2008-2009, compared to Lamar's non-football travel budget of almost $800K.  On top of that, to go FBS then requires 22 more football scholarships, at least doubling Woodard's salary and his assistants, expanding the football stadium, and adding more women's sports. The WAC will not be done expanding this year.  There's always going to be opportunities out there for Lamar.  I just don't buy into the "this our last chance to go FBS forever" argument.  It's going to take a lot of money for Lamar to go FBS and succeed, they can't do it overnight.
It amazes me that UNLV can't seem to understand this last paragraph. Good stuff, coachacola.
You're right, I can't understand cola's OPINION. How about showing me those future opportunities. Which of the following FBS do you think will invite LU... SEC? BIG 12? Sunbelt? or will the WAC put plans on hold until LU is ready? or as many on the forum believes, the Southland and Webber-International is the best for LU.
 4. For all the "lets stay FCS and play Webber International" lovers
Lamar announced Thursday that it would play future road games against Hawaii in 2012, Oklahoma State in 2013 and Texas A&M in 2014. The school will get payouts of $125,000 from Hawaii, $375,000 from Oklahoma State and $350,000 from A&M and Lamar will also have travel and lodging expenses paid for by Hawaii, head coach Ray Woodard said. Teams in the Bowl Subdivision commonly get much larger payouts for guarantee games. Tubbs estimated the payouts for Bowl Subdivision teams to be in the $750,000 range and above. Sun Belt school North Texas will get $975,000 to play a 2013 game at Georgia, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported. South Alabama, a future football-playing member of the Sun Belt, will get $850,000 for a 2013 game at Tennessee, espn.com reported.
5. Lamar would be nutts not to talk to the WAC. If CUSA had 5 openings, LU would not get the invite. I have about 15 schools ahead of LU. If the Sunbelt had 5 opening, LU would not get the invite. About 7 ahead. Where else is there to go for LU?  The BIG 12? LU can't be picky on FBS upgrade or LU will miss the boat and be stuck in a conference with Incarnate Word and Tarleton for the next 30 years.
 6.
UNLV: At first I was kind of stunned by the sheer foolishness of your comment, especially the part in bold, and wondered how you could make such a claim.  But, then, I realized that since you attended UNLV, you are definitely very familiar with an athletic program that embarasses the school, the game, the community, and the fans.  Heck, Jerry Tarkanian and the Runnin' Rebels practically created slimy, modern-day, AAU and Division I basketball.  So, after being at UNLV for a while, you may have a good perspective on embarassing programs.  Thanks for the insight.  Maybe you should take some of the many dollars you are earning with your UNLV degree and create a slush fund like your alma mater used to have back in the day and give it to Coach Woodard, then we won't have to worry about anymore embarassing losses.  Problem solved, the UNLV way.
UNLV can't hold LU's jock when it comes to scandals. Dropping football and the regents getting a big fat pay raise. The Silver Bowl and Thomas N Mack was always full. LU should learn from UNLV.
In all seriousness, your comments on this and other LU threads are assinine sometimes.  I don't know about any other LU alums or residents of the Triangle, but I sure didn't wake up Sunday morning and questions why I choose to support the university or live here.  It was a very bad loss, but from a start-up program playing their fourth game against the sixth-ranked team in the nation.  Give it a rest.  Maybe they did lay down, but I don't think that is anything out of the ordinary for a new program with most of the players just getting their feet wet in FCS play.  The entire program, coaches and fans included, will grow from this loss and move forward.  And I for one am not going to let a naysayer like you who doesn't even really have a rooting interest in the program dampen my excitement for having football back and Lamar.
Fan base does not grow from 71-3 loses. I was there in the stands in the late 70's and 80's, were you?  LU don't need the community saying 'same ole' Lamar.
 7.

We need to stop making excuses for the quit in the coaches and players or else we will see this same giving up attitude in future games.
What would you do, fire Woodard?  Get over it already.  ::)
I wouldn't kiss him on his forehead and say it is ok to quit. Forget about fans wanting to see LU football, just quit anytime. Let me remind you, SFA scored 33 in less than a full quarter in the 3rd. What was his half time adjustments?  too play possum What about when that LU player allowed SFA to score. He could have pushed him out at the 4 yard line, and yeah SFA would have scored anyway, but too just allow a team to score on you. Do you approve of that too?
 8. I agree. They are laughing at Lamar all over the internet and posting that stupid picture of Lamar off "Revenge of the Nerds".
 9. We need to stop making excuses for the quit in the coaches and players or else we will see this same giving up attitude in future games.
 10. Everyone stop twisting up words. No one expected LU to win. No one expected a close game. I did expect LU to play every down. This game reminded me of a 1980's 30 second Tyson fight. LU took one punch and quit.
 11.
wow all the bevil haters on here think they know it all...but did the back ups throw any touch downs or break any records or even move the ball? NO so shut up about everything being bevil! You win as a TEAM and lose as a TEAM! the whole team sucked tonight and SFA is very good!
I am not a Bevil hater, but he did thrown in the towel. The team and coaches all cowardly threw in the towel. When it was 50-3, I saw a Lamar player let a SFA player score. Then whole second half LU ran draw plays. LU didn't try to come back. LU didn't try to score for at least some respect. I thought Jason Garret was playing calling since LU only ran 5 plays the whole game. I didn't expect LU to win or be a close game, but I did expect them to play hard. They didn't. They embarrassed the school, the community, the game, and fans. If you don't want to play football or coach football, GET OFF THE TEAM.
 12.
The QB for SFA was very good, he hit receivers on the money most of the time.  I agree the officiating was horrible.  The first interception was pass interference.  They threw a flag for pass interference and picked it up.  As a coach you can tell when its going to be a long night with the refs.  This can cause you to get blown out because it can get you out of the game early.
Exactly,  however I think SFA would have still blown out LU. Refs just made the beat down worse.
 13. SFA needs to continue running up the score. This LU team is showing no heart. I know SFA is a far superior team and the officials are cheating, but you don't give SFA free scores. This a cowardly game play by the coaches and LU players. I can't respect rolling over like *******, get your butts kicked like a man...
 14.
UNLV.. You do realize the study that NT released THIS WEEK included something saying the WAC may not be around much longer and that the school would be BETTER OFF in the Sun Belt! You are absolutely foolish in thinking NT will be going to the WAC. Then again, you've been absolutely foolish from day one. My friend's UNLV doctoral degree loses value with each post you make. Come on man - face the facts!
Didn't you say the samething when I said Marlin was going to ULL?  LOL, ofcourse you did.
NM st is already in the WAC. I hear UNT and Ark st is talking to the WAC. The Sunbelt is looking east for future replacements. This why western members would talk to the WAC. UNT is not first on CUSA list so I guess this explains why they are talking WAC. I believe the WAC should form a 7 team eastern division if they want stability.
UNLV where did you hear that nonsense?  UNT has already done the "western thing" back in the Big West days.  Expensive and tough traveling, especially for the non-income producing sports like tennis, track, volleyball, etc.  Don't think UNT wants any part of the WEST.
Nonsense...That is what many said when I mentioned LU and the WAC. There were Setxsports members on katfans and otherf forums calling me every name in the book. The WAC has sweeten the pot and it caught UNT eye. The WAC east division. Write it in stone....lol.  ;) UNT Ark st UTSA Texas st Lamar La Tech New Mexico st

Any one that can confirm? A shot in the dark perhaps?
My guess is that is a bunch of b.s.  How can it even be possible with a 15,000 seat stadium?
I'd prefer we create the old southland:  Northeast La., USL, (to heck with their ULM and ULL nonsense), McNeese, La Tech and we add SE La.  Then Texas schools would be:  SFA, Lamar, SHSU, Southwest Tx State (not the new Tx State), and somebody else
"State higher education officials presented doom-and-gloom budget scenarios Tuesday to a state Senate committee showing what could happen when the federal stimulus money runs dry next summer. One such possibility included the closure of eight of the state’s 14 public universities as a means to reduce state funding of college costs by 30 percent, or about $300 million. That scenario would involve shuttering Nicholls State University, McNeese State University, Southern University at New Orleans, LSU at Alexandria, LSU at Shreveport, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Grambling State University and Northwestern State University. [Hidden Content]; I don't think schools will get shut down, but I do think football teams are in trouble.

 19.
Lamar does like to do things very low key so it wouldn't surprise me if they did talk to the WAC next week without anyone knowing about it.  I think if Lamar believes they can afford the WAC and that there will be a eastern division with La Tech, Texas State, UTSA and others then they'll probably try to go for it.
Very very very wise to talk to the WAC in secret. Frustrating to fans arrrrrgh. UTSA Hickey is not being smart by burning bridges in the SLC. The WAC mess may not work out, so then what for UTSA...
I attended UNLV....
 22. Latest poll. SELa gets more top 25 votes, LU gets nothing.
 23.
Only in your mind, UNLV   ::)
Terror is on several dozen forums trashing Lamar and Woodard, yet this who you defend. It never cease to amaze me how we Cardinal fans trash each other but pal around with those trashing LU. Katfan site is a good example of Cardinal fans trashing Cardinal fans while katfans laugh.
 24. Translation, Lamar is winning and I'm pissed.
