LU beat Rice and Tulane yet they rank higher. It's all about the Conference.
It's not all about the conference. If we were winning hand over fist and still ranked in the mid to high 100's I would agree. But We have to take some of the blame because our basketball program is just not that good. Swallow your pride and admit it. The Southland Conference is NOT our biggest problem. Probably not even top 5 on the list.
A better conference yield better recruits. A better conference get better exposure. The SLC has one ncaa win in the last 10 years. Hang around losers makes you a loser.

Lamar is bigger than La-Tech, BPT MSA is bigger than Ruston or equal to Shreveport MSA, Yet LA-Tech plays FBS. Lamar is smaller than Texas Tech, BPT MSA is bigger than Lubbock MSA, Yet Texas Tech plays FBS. Lamar is bigger than Marshall, BPT MSA is bigger than Huntington MSA, Yet Marshall plays FBS. Lamar is bigger than Southern Mississippi, BPT MSA is much bigger than Hattiesburg, Yet USM plays FBS. I could go on... It's all about the conference.
All that is great and all, but Lamar/BPT is also an easy 1.5 hour jont down I-10 from major entertainment in Houston! Monroe is not, LT is not, TT is not, Marshall is not, USM is not.
Please with the sorry weak excuse. Everyone here don't run to Houston for a fix. Lamar would not lose fans in the stadium, 6 times per year, just to visit Houston. A place we all been to a million times.
While I know that you are NEVER EVER wrong, everyone here does not have to run to Houston for a fix, only a portion have to to draw away from the LU crowds on Saturday. You ever been to Lubbock? or Monroe? I have. If I as part of that BPT MSA want to go to watch an NFL game I can do so at a moments notice. If you live in Lubbock it is a weekend affair! Therefore TT football is what they have. It ain't an excuse, like it or not it's a fact. For all his goffiness, the SETX Mavericks owner said it best recently when he said that "the people of SETX want $100 entertainment value out of a $15 ticket!" It sucks for us die hard Cardinal fans, but it is true!
LU fans will not give up the few home games to go to a city they've been to a million times. The NASA tram will still be there....

 6. I was looking at Conference USA numbers. Lamar is also bigger than UAB. And if Lamar was in CUSA, the Montagne would be 4th biggest. Less than 30 seats from being 3rd. And a 35k football stadium would fit nicely among CUSA.

 8.
If this happens, perhaps there will actually be a recognized BCS championship! Lamar, you could actually contend for the BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SUBDIVISION title and claim something that Texas did at one point - a 'BCS national championship'. Though, unlike theirs...yours would be recognized by the NCAA!
I knew you would love this.
 9. Huggins Calls for NCAA Basketball Division 1 Split Looks like Huggins thinks it's time for the for the NCAA basketball schools to follow the lead on the football side and split-up Division 1 (ala FCS and FBS football). "We ought to do what football does and go to a Division I-A and I-AA," Huggins said, according to the Times West Virginian. Huggins says cutting the number of team's in the sport's premier level would force schools to make a decision about their dedication to a basketball program. [Hidden Content]
 10. Where is the door for the players to run out on the field?
 11.
Went to the game tonight with my son and what in the world has happen to Lamar basektball? Twenty years ago go to a game and place had a great crowd and now hardly anyone there. The talent level is no where what it use to be and not much to root for. SHSU does have a good team and very well coached. Hope Lamar does something and get this thing turned around. What a great facility and football stadium is coming along.
SLC....
 12.
I am telling you, several moved money to other institutions today. It was the million dollars, trust me, it is "our" money, and we don't want Education First start thinking they are Chase Bank or Citi Bank.
Education first would go out of business if they stopped reaching out for new customers.
 13. Education didn't give LU a gift, it bought an effective ad.
 14. We can't win because we are in the SLC.
 15. It doesn't matter. Hopefully LU will be out of this conference.
 16. Good...it was stupid moving back and forth. Although this does give Terror a reason to bash LU.
 17. Is it true that Northwestern makes more TV money in the Big 10 than Texas in the Big 12?
 18. [Hidden Content] I say Texas should go so Lamar can get that Big 12 invite.
 19. Ark-little Rock only beat them by 9.
 20. Coach stop jixing LU. Lamar will lose remaining games, Roc will get the boot, SHSU will go FBS...HAHAHA sorry, and basketball will be dropped. And astroid will hit the earth.
 21.

Well yeah, I think there is a chance CUSA will implode. I think Rice and Tulane drops football. New Florida conference take CUSA teams east of UAB. Monroe days as a FBS are numbered. That leaves the teams I mentioned.
Tulane isn't dropping it. They've had their best two recruiting classes in the history of their program the last two years. The had 21 true freshman start throughout this year. They are young and experienced and should come close to .500 this year, if not reach that mark. They'll be in a bowl game within the next two years. And Rice just went 9-3 the year before last, why would you drop that program?
Very little interest by locals. Just talk of dropping, I wouldnt bet on it yet

 23. Football is different from Bball. It is much easier for a juco to play at a DI level in football versus Bball.
