  1. You did not hear what the Chancellor told me...the old one, that is. You say that LU was never in danger, but the BoR was putting things in people's ear in 2003 and the Chancellor was too. Apparently, the LU alums were out of the loop because the chatter was relatively loud... LU alum was daring them to act, but they punked out.
  2. That is opposite of the trend. See Southwest Louisiana (ULL), Northeast Louisiana (ULM), East Texas State (A&M-Commerce) and Southwest Texas (TXST). The legislation would allow us to change our name to SAM HOUSTON UNIVERSITY. I'd be a fan of that, especially since the state does not give us the money they used to, so why should we include 'state'. It'd be like GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY or JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY. They talked about it. Lamar sat on their hands. Would have loved if it went forward. Texas State University - Lamar or Texas State University - Beaumont. Would have cracked me up to see a school just letting themselves get pushed around. Luckily, SHSU caused enough of a stink to protect you guys in 2003. Protected themselves a few years later and encouraged the current bill. SHSU, always looking out for little sister Lamar. There's a reason that only SHSU and TXST are mentioned in the flagship debate. Lamar talks softly, but carries a big stick.
  3. Oh, I can... I was there in 2003 and 2005 when plenty of name change stuff was brewing under former Chancellor Lamar Urbanowsky and when our friends in San Marcos were starting all sorts of commotion. Our President (who made the remark at his annual state of SHSU address) and our alums were making noise about protecting our name when the discussion was made in Austin about changing all of our system names. Lamar was never in the house...even when SHSU's state rep offered to protect them as well. While you guys never thought it would happen, sometimes it's nice to be proactive. Free country. They talk about anything, but they knew not to touch LU.
  4. Terror don't mistake this areas easy going attitute with not caring. We knew it could never happen. Anyone tries to touch LU name would be facing category 5 Hurricane SETX.
  5. Lumberton is really about to experience some major growth.
  6. How about slc add arena football, half court basketball, ping-pong, and putt-putt.
  7. They can't cut too many sports if they want to stay D1. I counted Nicholls st with 14 sports. SELA also with 14.
  8. I think Monroe is next. How can a public school half LU size in a tiny market 24 miles from La tech manage FBS and 15 sports.
  9. Knucklehead TexasTerror is saying on katfans that SELA and Nicholls st is cutting a few sports.
  10. All UNO sports maybe dropped. [Hidden Content]
  11. LU was down 10-7 in the bot. 9th with 2 outs. I thought it was over.
  12. Lamar scores 8 in the 8th and 9th for comeback win, 11-10.
  13. Gooooooo SHSU bowling team. Make the SLC proud. [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
  14. All of these schools are already D1. What are you referring to? Are you referring to the 15 sport minimum the Sun Belt Conference requires? I thought a new NCAA rule will require 15 sports.
  15. All schools wanting to be DI must have a minimum of fifteen (15) sports... If we count football, Lamar has 14. After softball, bowling, and swimming is added, Lamar will have 17. How is the other SLC doing on the 15? I did a quick count so excuse me if I made a mistake. CC = 11 UTA,SHSU, NW = 12 TSU= 13 Remaining SLC has 14 or greater.
  16. The 1980 census put Houston pop. at 1.3 million, MSA 3 million. Today it's 2.1 million, MSA 5.6 million.
  17. If the Rockets or Texans or Astros played their games in Beaumont, Beaumont would be a great sports town. Right?
  18. Beaumont is as good of a sports town as any other city. The problem is not totally with Beaumont, it's with the teams that came to Beaumont. No is one is willing to trust a sports team after so many failures. I remember going to LU football games with the stadium over flowing. Fans didn't one day wake up and say, 'lets be crummy sports fans'. IF offered a good product and marketed to EVERYONE, Beaumont will respond positively. I will respond on the EVERYONE later. This has been problem that led to failures of non-high schools sports in Beaumont.
  19. West would probably vanish if someone pulls his foot out of his mouth. He just don't know when to shut up.
  20. Well, if that is the case - when LU is back in their usual spot at the bottom of the SLC standings - am I allowed to call your team a middle school program, since you can't make the JV cut? ??? It is still jv ball reguardless where LU ranks. And since SHSU can't compete against the new kids, UCA, that makes SHSU already pop-warner...
  21. Probably was, because the split had just occurred and the SLC was one of the few to stay behind at first. Then you would agree the SLC move to I-AA was stupid dumb stupid beyond stupid dumb stupid. Can you imagine where the slc would be today? UNT, La-Tech, Arkansas st would not have left. Maybe the SWC teams left overs might have joined instead of going WAC. And best of all, no SHSU.
