  1. so let me get this straight UNLV, Lamar getting pounded 70-0 by the Oklahoma Sooners is going to put people in the stands? but perhaps a good competitive game with SFA that could be for a Div I FCS playoff spot will not? First you are spinning my words, but I'll play along. Yes, If OU came to Beaumont to play Lamar and the betting line is OU -70, Yes Cardinal stadium would be packed with ppl peaking over the fence. If SFA came to Beaumont to play Lamar and the betting line was even, I doubt Lamar manage more than 7,000 at that game.
  2. It wasn't dumb, it should be the goal. I wish they would think as you over at Lamar because playing SFA will not put people in the stands, even if the game is on Fox.
  3. I like the UH schedule. The SLC schedules will send Lamar back to being a football-less school.
  4. No I dont.... ;D
  5. What would be the point of playing if they could score 80 easily?
  6. Which example of a conference 2008 schedule would attract the biggest crowds to a Lamar game if Lamar useone of the following schedule? CUSA USM 8/30 Louisiana-Lafayette 7:00 PM 9/06 @ Auburn TBA 9/13 @ Arkansas State TBA 9/20 Marshall 3:30 PM 10/04 UTEP 7:00 PM 10/11 Boise State 8:00 PM 10/18 @ Rice TBA 10/25 @ Memphis 8:00 PM 11/01 UAB 8:00 PM 11/08 @ UCF TBA 11/15 East Carolina 3:00 PM 11/29 @ Southern Methodist TBA UH 8/30 Southern University 7:00 PM 9/06 @ Oklahoma State TBA 9/13 Air Force 3:30 PM 9/20 @ Colorado State 3:30 PM 9/27 @ East Carolina 3:30 PM 10/11 UAB 8:00 PM 10/18 @ Southern Methodist TBA 10/28 @ Marshall 8:00 PM 11/08 Tulane 5:00 PM 11/15 Tulsa 5:00 PM 11/22 UTEP 5:00 PM 11/29 @ Rice TBA ------------------------------------------------------------- Sunbelt L-monroe 8/30 @Auburn 6:00 PM 9/06 Arkansas (in Little Rock) TBA 9/13 Alabama A&M 6:00 PM 9/20 @Tulane 2:00 PM 10/04 UL-Lafayette 6:00 PM 10/11 @Arkansas State 6:00 PM 10/18 UNT 6:00 PM 10/25 Florida Atlantic 6:00 PM 11/01 Troy 6:00 PM 11/08 @ Middle Tennessee TBA 11/15 @ Ole Miss 5:00 PM 11/22 @ Florida International 6:00 PM UNT 8/30 @ Kansas State TBA 9/06 Tulsa 7:00 PM 9/13 @ LSU 8:00 PM 9/27 @ Rice TBA 10/04 Florida International 7:00 PM 10/11 Louisiana-Lafayette TBA 10/18 @ Louisiana-Monroe 7:00 PM 10/25 Troy TBA 11/01 @ Western Kentucky TBA 11/08 @ Florida Atlantic TBA 11/22 @ Middle Tennessee TBA 11/29 Arkansas State TBA --------------------------------------------------------------------- SLC sfa 8/30 Langston 7:00 PM 9/06 @ TCU 7:00 PM 9/13 Kentucky Wesleyan 7:00 PM 9/20 @ Western Illinois 7:05 PM 9/27 South Dakota State 7:00 PM 10/11 Southeastern Louisiana 7:00 PM 10/18 @ Nicholls State 3:00 PM 10/25 Texas State 3:00 PM 11/01 @ Sam Houston State 3:00 PM 11/08 @ McNeese State 8:00 PM 11/15 Central Arkansas 7:00 PM 11/22 Northwestern State 7:00 PM Mcneese 8/30 @ North Carolina 6:00 PM 9/06 Delta State 8:00 PM 9/13 Cal Poly 8:00 PM 9/27 Southern Virginia 8:00 PM 10/04 @ South Dakota State 3:00 PM 10/11 Texas State 8:00 PM 10/18 @ Sam Houston State 3:00 PM 10/25 Nicholls State 8:00 PM 11/01 @ Southeastern Louisiana 7:00 PM 11/08 Stephen F. 7. Did you not see the word "if"?
  8. What if Woodard is a great coach. Year 1, 5-6 record. year 2, 9-2 record. year 3, 13-1 record. Would not Woodard go bye bye too.
  9. Right, Lamar has no choice but to start FCS. However so does UTSA. UTSA just implied FBS and they are in conversations about a new FBS conference. Lamar could do the same. I'm sure the Sunbelt would take Lamar. I dont want the Sunbelt, but I preferr them over the slc any day. You're right, we are not a big media market, not small either. However media markets are tricky in using them to gauge a market because they over lap. Regional market size and MSA/CSA is a better judge. The next census updates come out soon. Beaumont was 109k 2 years ago, 117k last year, and I would bet 125k this year. MSA 413k. Now that is a Good market size and its expected to continue to grow for several years. If CUSA breaks up, Lamar needs to be ready. I dont want Lamar to miss that boat.
  10. I can too, and a lot of that has to do with the leadership of the university. That's why I put some of the blame on past administrations. Wouldn't you agree that past administrations didn't do enough to keep Lamar growing when SETX wasn't? Why did the Lamar University System get in such a financial mess that they had to fold in it into the Texas State University System? Why did Lamar put all it's resources into basketball and let football die on the vine in the 1980's? Why didn't Lamar try to expand Cardinal Stadium back in the 70's when they were 1A and had some good seasons? These are the mistakes I'm talking about. They cannot be easily corrected, and they can't do it overnight. But Tubbs and Simmons are bringing back football. Lamar is embarking on a $100 million capital campaign to improve all aspects of Lamar. They are building new dorms on campus so Lamar is less of a commuter school. They are upgrading all the athletic facilities. They can't fix 2 decades of neglect in a couple of years. No No No, I was talking about mistakes made with football. I think Lamar campus master plans is excellent. Lamar 3 football mistakes of the 80's. 1. I-AA 2. Slc 3. losing I agree with you, I'll be disappointed if they have no plans to expand the stadium. I think they do have a plan, but like the drawing from 1964, if they don't actively try to build up the program then it won't happen. But it's a pretty simple plan: Winning = fan support = money = bigger stadium = better conference. Your formula is right, but so is this one. bigger stadium + FBS = lots of community surpport = better recruits = winning = more community support. Here is the problem with your formula. What if Lamar doesn't win, then everything goes down. My formula doesn't require winning for football to succeed. Your plan, low fan support at the game if Lamar record is 2-6. My plan allows fans to show up in huge numbers even if Lamar is 2-6 because Lamar will be hosting teams like Alabama and Baylor.
  11. I hope so, but I doubt it. USM is a little bit bigger than Lamar, but smaller than Sam Houston st. Hattiesburg times 2 = smaller than Beaumont. So how could they do? and we do not? USM built the stadium that would attract fans and big time competition, which lead to more fans, which lead to big name conference, which lead to more fans. Assuming Lamar is not expanding Cardinal stadium, then we can forget about bringing in anyone bigger than a SLC level team, which leads to little fan support, which leads to no conference upgrade, which leads to Lamar wondering why no one is going to the freaking games.
  12. Lamar's enrollment has always followed the population trend of SETX. Lamar's enrollment started declining right after the population in the region started declining. And in case you didn't notice, Lamar wasn't even a university back then and was still almost a decade away from being a D1 school. They didn't have the support or the money to expand it back then. I can name a dozen schools that grew without community growth. Texas a&m and Sam Houston. Oh Rice this and Rice that. Rice is not Lamar. I dont care about Rice, I care about Lamar. Lamar AND LAMAR FANS needs to think independent of what others do. I bet Rice will not hold itself back because of what Lamar does. I bet Rice fans aren't holding Lamar up as a Rice example. What mistake is being corrected? please point them out. Was the mistake a grass field instead of turf? Lamar football started down in the early 80's. What was Lamar football back then? I-AA, slc, cardinal stadium... What will we see in 2011? FCS = I-AA, slc, and a cardinal stadium with turf and paint.
  13. If Lamar had completed this stadium, the school population would have continue to grow, football would have remained strong, fans support would not have dropped, and Lamar would be FBS today. Its not too late to bowl the southend and bowl the northend at half the size. But ofcourse we know ideas like this is better done in other communities.
  14. Rice, Houston(CUSA), Tech(Big 12), and Arkansas(SEC)... 4 FBS schools in a higher confetrence. Why would anyone consider Lamar(Southland Conference) over these schools?
  15. No I didn't enjoy it. Lamar and Tech, former rivals, same size, Tech is elite, Lamar is small time.
  16. This: your picture is not showing... what is it? It's a photo of UL-Monroe's 30K stadium. That's what SHSU was lacking. I just looked at ULM website. I love their 08 schedule.
  17. I know, so why are you keeping up the playing dumb about SHSU moving up to FBS. Is it to get your laugh on when SHSU is playing Tulsa and Lamar is playing Tarleton st.
  18. This: your picture is not showing... what is it?
  19. Monroe was already a football-playing member of the Sun Belt and the SBC refused to have a school be an affiliate member of a major sport, so ULM upgraded their programs and moved in the time frame established. Monroe's last football season in the SLC was 1995. ULM finished 11th of 13 schools in the Sun Belt's All-Conference championship (similar to our Commish Cup). In fact, they only had one sport finish higher than fourth place in a SBC sport and that was baseball (which won the regular season title). They are struggling in the conference... Again, What did La-Monroe have that SHSU is lacking? Monroe played I-AA then moved up.
  20. What did La-Monroe have that SHSU is lacking?
  21. The SLC will continue to get weaker with the addition of 2 or 3 DII teams in 2011. 1. Tarleton st replaces Texas st 2. Northern Alabama replaces UTSA SHSU might leave...I would bet yes today. I dropped Delta st from joining...Their admin. is backing off the upgrade.
  22. SHSU would have to notify in 2009 if we were leaving on June 30, 2011. Doubt SHSU would do that unless you know something I do not. You think Texas and A&M are going to go to the SEC or something, opening up some Big XII real estate? right, SHSU will announce in 2009 or 10. go ahead and laugh. yes, UT, OU, and AM might go SEC. I know LSU and Arkansas wants to be in the same conference with them. Maybe a new conference with LSU, Ark, UT, OU, AM, and a few other schools.
  23. Think you couldn't want...? Challenge for SLC supremacy? If it's anything like your last time playing football, it will be tough. You guys never succeeded at the Division I level, whether it Division I, Division I-AA or Division I-A. Outside of your big win over Baylor, not much going for that last Cardinals run. That aside (as it must be, as this is a new time), you guys have McNeese to look to just a few miles down the road to see what it takes to have a strong program...that's the goal you want to achieve, that is where you start. Cards must tame Pokes Move to FBS? It's a fact that if Texas State-San Marcos fumbles their move up, which they already did once around the turn of the century when they announced a move and did not move up, it will impact the chance of SHSU and Lamar moving up. As noted before, in the TSUS pecking order, Lamar is third behind the two larger institutions in Huntsville and San Marcos. There was a reason that Lamar's name was not mentioned in the flagship fight that took place in the last five years. SHSU was the only school with an argument that could hold any weight against you know who. Fact is -- we need to see how this moratorium shapes up. Lamar, especially if football is not a hit, may not have a chance. Southwest Conference? Apparently an alum from San Marcos holds those rights. They weren't even mentioned in the post. Go figure! Not sure why Baylor would leave the Big XII. Sure, they stink at football, but they are at their height in the basketballs and have pretty strong programs throughout their department. UH and Rice already learned their lesson from their last time in the SWC. Wouldn't you guys know about UH and their constant push for the SEC anyways, since most of you are 'Closet Coogs'...? UNLV, can I get an amen? He is laughing at Lamar again. While we are excited about joining the slc in 2011, SHSU will be joining FBS conference the same year. Then he will really pour it on. UH not going sec. UH will go Big 12.
  24. I hope you are correct.
