  1. Imagine the donation surge if a big name, like Jimmy or Barry, was named as coach.
  2. Stop clicking the mouse, quiet down the kids and turn off the radio. Can you hear it? The clock. It's ticking. According to its self-imposed timetable, Lamar University is nine months away from signing its first round of football recruits in more than a generation. [Hidden Content]
  3. Fran wasn't that good at A&M, why do you think he would be better a Lamar? Where is Slocum's name?
  4. I was thinking maybe cut a section out of the Montagne. Put the VIP's suites in that section. Then those same suites could be used for football and basketball.
  5. Ofcourse I preferr both, the expanding stadium and VIP's. I preferr the bowl over the upper deck. I want the endzones very hostile. Besides the bowl seating would be far cheaper. Upper deck would cost about 10 times more.
  6. How do you know how much money Lamar raised. I heard it was far more than $20 million. I said bowl, look at the picture. However if Lamar can spend $20 million on the stadium, why not an extra $5 million to complete the bowl at the lower level. I use $5 million as max, I bet they can do it for less. And yes I think extra fans will come because of the bowl, college feel.
  7. I need to pass it Jimmy. Maybe then he will say yes.
  8. Jimmy Jimmy....why can 't we witness a miracle. Imagine the recruits Jimmy could bring in the first year. 3-4 stars to a FCS team. Maybe a few 5 stars. This team would end the season with more wins then loses. My Cardinal stadium bowl would be packed every game. Jimmy needs to give us 5 years, then Stump can take over in 2014.
  9. What if the teams I mentioned before move up and out the slc, ofcourse laughing at Lamar. Do you think fans will support Lamar vs Tarleton st, Abilene Christian, Nicholls st, Delta st? I say 7,000 fans if we are winning. What if Lamar is losing against those teams, celler dwellers? maybe 3,500 If Lamar goes FBS, Lamar could get non-conference home and home with Baylor, UH, Tech, UTEP, New Mexico st... +25,000 if they bowl it like I said.
  10. Empty seats, look who is being negative. Those aluminmum seats or concrete is better than those high school hills. Just for the record, I had lots of memories rolling on those hills as a kid. But, they gotta go. SETX will support big time football at Lamar, not this popwarner FCS crap this forum is pushing. Baylor, UH, NT, and La tech. NOT Tarleton st, NOT abilene christian, NOT Nichols st, and NOT Miss. College. Coach Tubbs shoot as high as you can go. Waiting only risk not getting into a FBS and maybe an anti-football president after you and Dr Simmons leave. Ignore the nay sayers. I think Terror is controling them.
  11. i LOVE this idea. i'd go with aluminum seats at first though, just because it's cheaper.. but it'll get the job done for the first few years. but to me, the FIRST step to this process.. TURF! Screw all the VIP seats for the rich, make it look better (field wise) then do the bleachers, THEN VIP boxes. Finally a wise opinion. Yes, this design would not cost much money but the new feel for fans, screaming fans in the endzones for cardinal players, and bragging rights is priceless. I would rather $2 million go to aluminum stands to complete the bowl than VIP suites. Both would be better. Tubbs, if you are reading this, go with the wise and not the nay sayers.
  12. First, I said the 3rd year which is 2013 for FBS. I did not say the first year. You are seeing what you want to see just like you are closing your eyes to the conference breakup. If you really think there will be opportunity to move up in 10 years, then I have property to sale you on the Moon. It's a good thing Tubbs is running things because I doubt he would allow Lamar to be stuck out side looking in. Try looking at the big picture. Do some research on conference realignment. Here is a website, almost everyday there is an article on possible moves by the big schools. [Hidden Content] after you read it, come back tell me if you think opportunity will be available. There is already attempts to block more schools from joining FBS and yet you think Lamar could get the red carpet to FBS in 10 years. No way, after this round in 2010 that door will be shut for a long time.
  13. UNLV -- you do realize that USA is already a Sun Belt member in all other sports? Their addition to football is going to happen without question and I do not believe the moratorium impacts them at all, even if it is extended. SBC already has 13 schools now, though only 10 will play football by the time USA gets there...you would think like any league, they'd want to get to 12 football schools for purposes of a championship game. Time will tell.. Yeah, but the Sunbelt will lose 1 maybe 2 non-football teams. This will leave 2 FBS spots open. I doubt Lamar would lead the list.
  14. "Left-overs." You're going to get this anyway. You and AbovetheRim stop the dreaming We are the dreamers of the dreams.... ???...nevermind, go lick the wall paper Veruca Salt . ROFLMAO I am embarrassed to say I knew who you were talking about right off the bat! I love that movie! ;D Yeah, the old Willy Wonka was cool. The new one needs mental help and just plain creepy.
  15. You guys are not paying attention. I hate to disagree with you above, but Lamar needs to go FBS soon or never. I ask the question nobody answered. If Lamar wanted to go FBS right now, what FBS conference would Lamar join? ANSWER:Maybe the Sunbelt however unlikely because the Sunbelt would go with Georgia Southern, USA, UTSA, Texas st, and even SHSU before start-up Lamar. However there is a window of opportunity coming in 2010 when the BE contract runs out. You will see the biggest conference team musical chair ever. Some conferences will fold, others will be born. Lamar will need to find that FBS seat because after everyone is seated, there will be no more slots to move up. Why do you think lots of schools are starting football or planning to move up now? TO GET A SEAT. Why do you think the moratorium was put in place now? So current FBS schools can have first pick of the seats. After that, its over for the next 30 years. So Lamar needs to go FBS soon, or wait 30 years. Now what part am I not making clear.
  16. Don't leave us Lamar, stay down here with us. FBS at Lamar will hurt Mcneese recruiting. Terror said the samething and when SHSU starting raking steps towards FBS. Terror was like a kid in a candy store. If Mcneese announced the samething Mcneesestudent would be celebrating and laughing at Lamar.
  17. I think Lamar is approaching this the right way. Lamar's goal is to be the best in FCS as soon as possible. They should aspire to be the next Appalacian State, Georgia Southern, Delaware State, Montana, etc. Speaking of Montana Univ, anyone look at their FCS stadium? They just about sell it out for every game! Sure, probably the only game in town up there in the frozen tundra. The Grizzlies have a very successful program. UNT has not won more than 3 games in football the last 3 years. Do you think UNT should drop down to FCS until UNT can compete in FBS? Actually 7 games in three years. :'( That's why NT fired Darrell Dickey and brought in Todd Dodge. Prior to those three years, NT won 4 conference championships and made 4 trips to the New Orleans Bowl; not the Sugar Bowl, that's for sure, be NT fans got a taste of what a bowl game is all about. To answer your question, the day NT drops "back" down to FCS is the day I quit sending them money for athletics! NT did that from the very early '80's until 1994. That period about killed football at North Texas. Why? Because our "leadership" was too cheap to add 10,000 seats to the stadium to meet the NCAA's new stadium requirements to stay in 1A football. Remember, in those days there was only one football division- 1A. They then created 1AA. It was football purgatory at that time. I agree, it would be an insane move for UNT. So why would you advocate Lamar being another NT of that era. Lamar too would not get money from fans similar to yourself (the day NT drops "back" down to FCS is the day I quit sending them money for athletics! ) why would you too want Lamar in football purgatory?

  19. Lamar and Memphis, cmon now Yes Memphis, Lamar was playing big ball before Memphis. Lamar was actually bigger than Memphis 40 years ago. But ya see, Memphis invested and took chances. Lamar did what this forum advocates, the "no no wait". I can't count the number of schools that passed Lamar up because of this inferior mentality.
  20. Sorry about the sloppy illustration, but it makes my point. The stadium needs to be made into a complete bowl. The ends do not need to be as large as the sides, as illustrated. This would give a college feel, instead of high school. It'll make the endzones louder, advantage Lamar. Larger crowds, larger exposer, smaller number jumping off the bandwagon after the first season. The stadium will look and feel different from the 1980's. Cost; using concrete stands $3 - $5 million. Aluminum; half that. This would not break the bank. Leaving the stadium as is with a few upgrades including VIP's for the rich, will not put fans in the stadium. Lamar football will fail again.
  21. "the finest facilities in the SLC " ewwww, kinda like said the nicest apartment at Carver Terrance. Above, play along for arguement sake. Let say Lamar is playing FCS right now. Lets LAMAR finish the season 10-1 and average home crowd of 17,000. If Lamar wanted to move up today, Where would Lamar go? SEC? Big 12? CUSA? WAC? Sunbelt? I'm guess you said Sunbelt. Those other conferences would never invite Lamar today or in the future. The Sunbelt might be willing to take 1-3 teams. There will be as many as 5 teams,6 if you count Lamar, for those 3 spots. 1.USA 2. UTSA market size advantage over Lamar 3. TSU school size advantage over Lamar 4. La tech might bite the bullet and go So you see, Lamar would be at the bottom of the lkist. Once those spots are filled, what option does Lamar have left to join FBS Conference? coach maybe you or your sidekicks could answer this question.

  23. You think Roc hasn't signed a big guy because he's passive and timid? You think Lamar is turning away all the 3 and 4 star players because they don't want to be big time? We all want Lamar to succeed and make it big but you're really being unrealistic these days. I was referring to Roc at all. I don't know what Roc is doing. But lets not talk about being unrealistic. Just because you limit yourself and put up all these dumb false road blocks for yourself and Lamar is a problem on you, not being unrealistic. Here let me give you an example of what I am talking about. "This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. 24. Spending at least $18 million to start football does not strike me as wanting to be small time. You can't build a big-time FBS program in a couple of years, and it takes a lot more than a 30K stadium to be big-time. Lamar is building the infrastructure now so they can move up to a better conference and be able to go FBS in the future. Nobody from Lamar has said that they plan to stay FCS, but Lamar does have to start out FCS. Cardinal Stadium will be better than some FBS stadiums when the work is done. You have to give this time, it doesn't happen overnight. coach I know what your saying seems logical and in plenty of cases it is. Lamar football needs community support for it too work. For community support, you need to excite the community. Just building any ole way will not excite the public, look at ford park. The $7 million fieldhouse plans sound good. The remaining is nothing more than painting an old stadium. The suites will be cool only to those who can afford them. This plan does nothing to make the community want to support Lamar. Everything is 1980's all over again, except with a new fresh paint job. If nothing is new or innovative, our recruiting will also reflect this, our wins will reflect this, community support will reflect this. Without shock and awww, Lamar football will fail. Tonight I will post how it should be done. Gotta go.
  25. You want to compare apples to oranges. Ok, Houston is 1 year older than Beaumont. So why is Houston so much bigger. Beaumont had spindletop yet Houston got the rewards. Why? because of the same type of thinking on this board. Houston built more Hospital beds in the last 5 years then all of Beaumont in the last 90 years. Those hospitals brought jobs, that created jobs, that created more jobs. Houston continue to grow. 2 years and counting, yet Beaumont is still debating the 3rd hospital. What is the excuse? There is a national nursing shortages, its best Beaumont wait until the shortage is over. Did Houston wait? "its best Beaumont wait until the shortage is over"/"Lamar should wait until it win" BTW, the nursing shortage is pushing 25 years.... houston sucks.i dont want setx to become a houston. That is not the point. Houston sees opportunity, Houston takes advantage of opportunity. SETX see opportunity, SETX lets it pass by with the "its too risky" excuse. This is an opportunity for Lamar to correct stupid mistakes from the past. Lamar had a student population of 10,000 in 1970. "Its to risky, lets wait, lets think small, innovation is for other communities" has kept the population the same for nearly 40 years.
