  1. 19 wins in the slc, forget about it. Same for the 19 wins lady cards.
  2. Very good article...and great to put things into perspective. However, one big thing he mentioned is this group playing as a team and playing hard...is that because of the coaching or is that because of the type of kids on the team. Kids that know how to play basketball, play as a team, and play hard often are better than the so called 'superior athletes' team. Look at Duke this year...what superior 'athletes' do they have on that team??? Anyway, Roc did do a great job turning the season around because I definitely abandoned ship after the start we had..so kudos to him and the kids. As for needing a big man...agreed. Who couldn't use that? The question is will he be able to actually recruit that kind of player?? Tubbs and Foster both could..we'll see if Roc can....I certainly hope he can. But we need 2 or 3 players not just one big man. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we need a shooting guard??? Don't we need a forward and a power forward??? Seem to me like we need a 2, a 4, and a 5. We have a 1 (Dawkins) and a 3 (Nabors). We have a backup 4 in Brown and a backup 5 in Worrell. But neither one has impressed me to where they should be starter material...maybe they'll show monumental improvement in the off season. I am certainly glad to have Dawkins coming back because, to me, that is by far the most important position in college basketball...a big time point guard and Dawkins is that. Moton will be our 2. Hall could go 3. Nabors 4.
  3. Just pointing out the ole do as I say, not as I do.
  4. SHSU moved up as part of a group with fellow schools Southwest Texas and Stephen F Austin in the Gulf Star Conference. That conference was a bunch of Southland rejects who were making the move from Div II to Div I -- they really were. The Southland ended up calling their and their fellow Gulf Star squads up once the Southland lost a few squads in the late 80s... Should be noted SWT won back to back Div II titles and SHSU was then a strong suit in softball, volleyball, baseball and men's golf. UCA had a very strong program in football -- Clint Conque was doing all the right things. They timed it just perfectly with the SLC's efforts to expand. I believe it was UCA vs Tarleton St for that spot (as I think the SLC wanted A&M-CC because they had a strong BKB program and was committed to adding football down the road -- atleast, that's what they said). UCA was further along and had an attractive market (Little Rock) and a reach that the SLC wanted to venture to once more... A&M-CC was an independent and began their program from scratch. Moved quickly, but not as quick as programs like Florida International and Florida Atlantic. Those schools moved very quickly! So in other words, SHSU moved up before really establishing it self as a DII power.
  5. Why do you think the Bearkats and everyone in the FCS community is ragging on them? The only trip to the Div I playoffs came on the backs of players who were recruited by a coach that broke numerous NCAA rules to get them (Mataskis) -- you guys remember the Nealy/transfer issues, eh? What kind of success did SHSU have to move up to DI? UCA? AMCC?
  6. How many times has UNT danced since going to the Sunbelt? What about football bowls?
  7. Must be successful rule to move up seem to only apply to Lamar according to everyone here. Texas st and UTSA are moving up. What made them successful to move up? What about Monroe? North Texas? Lamar has more NCAA tourney wins than North Texas. ULL? Arkansas st?
  8. No coach, moratorium ends in 2011 as you said but the switching of conferences will begin 2 years before in 2009. Second, I didn't say life time membership in the WAC. I said Lamar would be out by 2012. The WAC has 9 schools, 8 if you exclude Tech. Half of those 8 schools want out of the Wac. Half of those schools could careless if the WAC added Lamar for 3-4 years until moratorium ended because those 4 schools will be out the WAC in 4 years.
  9. My comments are in regard to your basketball team, since that's apparently what UNLV was talking to re: glory days. What has Lamar done in basketball? Outside of a surprise run to the NCAA tournament in 2000, they have not met anything near your expectations. And this is the "lowly" Southland, right? Didn't UNT turn down a WAC invite? I think I read that somewhere...and yep, La Tech has suffered. From what I gather, they have really hurt relationships with quite a few other schools, conferences in the region over the years. Can't wait for Cardinal football! There's no telling what kind of program you will have and not sure what kind of effect it will have...who knows, you guys may hurt McNeese and SHSU and get in a battle with Central Arkansas for SLC supremacy... North Texas did, in fact, turn down an invite to join the WAC. North Texas has done the western conference thing, having been a member of the Big West, and I doubt will ever do it again. Not only would the WAC have been costly travel wise, but how many fans do you think would have made the trip to Boise, San Jose, Hawaii, or Fresno? Plus, the Left Coast conferences are still playing when most of us are in bed. Two time zones and you would never see the games writeups in the Sunday papers in Houston and Dallas, etc. No, the WAC thing was not for North Texas and it would be a pipe dream and complete failure for Lamar to go that route. Plus, what does Lamar have to offer the WAC at this point? Concentrate on fielding a team first, get the program established, and above all, WIN! Using your logic, then the best option for North Texas is to rejoin the Southland conference.
  10. I look at it this way. In 2000 were the 7th seed.
  11. Is this why we are spending $30 million on football. southland 2012 ----------- UT Arlington Mid-western Abilene Christian Centra Ok West Texas AM Angelo State TAM-CC Nichols st Delta st Tarleton st Texas AM Kingsville UC Arkansas
  12. Coach, in 5 years there will be no conference to move up too. How many times do I have to say it. The Big east contracts run out in 2010. There will be a mad dash to new conference nation wide. If Lamar wait until everything is perfect, the boat will be gone. Maybe gone for the next 30 years. Then what? just be happy in the slc? A slc without Texas st or UTSA. Maybe without SHSU and SFA. How far will Lamar go in a conference with Delta st and Tarleton? What recruit will choose Lamar over SHSU or SFA? What good is spend $30 million on football to play in the slc. Finally after our former rivals in ULL, UNT, La tech moved up on us. Leaving us behind. You support the next generation UTSA, Texas st, SHSU to move up on us leaving us behind again. I don't get your logic coach.
  13. Wouldn't the alley be better off without Lamar, maybe Tarleton st can take our place. I hear they have football.
  14. For a team to leave the Big 12 in less than 2 years notice, that team must pay something around $2 million. I'm sure the backyard alley conference of the slc is not charging the same amount. Maybe Lamar can buy of the alley conference to join La Tech in the WAC. Maybe a temporary deal say when L;a Tech leaves, Lamar must leave. Lamar could raise the money to pay for the extra travel by Wac teams until the following year when schedules can be made around Lamar/La Tech travel partners. Lamar fans and alum would be more than happy to pay a little more or donate a little more 1 season just to get out of the alley. I don't see La tech in the WAC past 2012, so we would have 4 years to find a home with the Sunbelt being our finally option. The WAC could use another team especially in Basketball and Swiming. No football travel. Its a good deal all around. We will never get the recruits needed to bring the glory days of the 80's while still in the slc.
  15. Totally agree coachcola. What is the purpose of the regular season? At least the two division winners should get a first round bye. Exactly....that way the 2 top teams get a reward for conference effort.
  16. Nikki Williams is brilliant at times, awful other times. I hate to see them lose the season to corrupt officials, however they made it further then I expected going into the tourney. Above I hope your right, however the Lady cards rpi is pretty crappy. Next season, the coach needs to focus more on confident. Lots of wide open looks with no shot but rather a pass.(mostly bad passes) We were klilled by their size and defense and no call fouls. We have size coming next year. Size and attitude.
  17. When I lived in Las Vegas, my friends and I walked to the strip every weekend. There was this older guy we always saw at Barbary coast name Tony... I know I know. Tony said don't think for 1 second the rufs don't have friends placing bets for them. He said in the big games, not as much. The smaller games in small conference the coruption is bad. He said you know politicans mixes truth with lies to make it all look true, well rufs will call it one sided for a big lead then call in fair the remaining of the game. He called it the other team "run".
  18. Now for Lamar, it seen some players are scared to shoot while others don't know when to not shoot.
  19. Worse one-sided game I've seen since the Rockets and Lakers in 1991. Not talking anything away from UTSA, however at least half of their points are off bad calls or no calls.
