  1. I can say that the last two years I have seen BH play and no that don't have an overflow of talent and size. But, they seemed well coached and played hard. Very much a blue collar team that gets everything they have out of their athletes and they do have some that can play. You can make up a lot by having discipline and heart.

  3. I don't know, Barbers Hill is usually fairly good. I don't know how they have done in the past in their scrimmages. Maybe they fixed all the problems they had. That is what scrimmages are for.
  4. Just a little advice: Ya'll are trying to build a winning program, the last thing ya'll should do is question who the coach is playing and where. These are just kids and some of them do read these boards. They need their whole community behind each one of them. Football is a TEAM game anyway.
  5. There is something to be said about having a quiet confidence. There is no need in getting on any board and smack talking. Make sure your team knows that ya'll are behind them but a message board is not the way you do that. This is a great place to provide stats and facts, and there is nothing wrong with say that your team will win. After that game (or scrimmage) win or lose move on to the next one. If ya'll are going to start winning, and I hope ya'll do as well as all the area teams, you need to learn how to do it with class and good sportsmanship. As the old saying goes "act like you have been there before". I think that if this happens that ya'll will find out there will be far more supporters outside your own community.
  6. You can not compare a scrimmage to a State Finals game. Congratulations on what appears to be an improved team, but don't go putting the cart before the horse. Realise there is a difference between a scrimmage and a game.

  8. What was he doing? Up at 1140 on the computer talking smack about a game a week away when you are playing some one else the next day? Not exactly thinking about the game that is at hand. That's not something I would want my team doing. I hope his coach doesn't find out.
  9. The problem here is not who the LLs are or are not playing. You also can not expect teach kids in LLs a system that is used in high school or Jr high. I do believe that everyday a kid is playing and learning the game is beneficial. I think the problem is coaching. Not bad coaching, but the fact that at least every other year we are changing offensive and deffensive philosophies and schemes. This makes it impossible to begin teaching a kid on Jr. high or even a freshman team a system that they will eventually use on the varsity level. I do think that Vidor can compete and win year in and out. We have been right on the edge a couple of times. I do like the changes we have made for this year. Getting back to Vidor football roots... 3 yards and a cloud of dust and strong defense. I'm not sure how it will go this year, after all changing from the spread to the wing-t on offense and 3-3 to 50 on defense, it will take some time. Just hope we will stick with it.
  10. I know that WOS can play and beat anyone. The problem will be the with the players playing both ways, especially this early in the year. Taking this into account Dayton should win, but I would never count WOS out.

  12. Yes, it is a new one. Though the one we had before the storm was almost if not identicle to it.
  13. Sorry, we didn't get to play ya'll when I was in school. We were 5A and ya'll were 4A. I would have loved the challenge though.
  14. Last night Qualls wasn't in a closing situation. It was the 8th inning and he came in in the 7th. Garner was planning on Wheeler pitching the 9th and closing the game. To me the bigger problem is the anemic offense. Watching them bat is a lot like watching the grass grow. Yes, they should have been able to hold on to a 3 run lead in the 8th, but then again how many times has the pitching staff, Qualls and Lidge included, held the other team to 1 run and still lost. This year they have been shutout 11 times, including 4 times 1-0.
  15. Yes, the fans love it (Slavonic), but on the field I personally never heard anything any band played or fans in the stands. I had I guess tunnel vision, I didn't know anything else that was going on around me. Who knows, I guess I could be an exception. I always thought that is how everyone was, but hey I learn something new everyday.
  16. That is what scrimmages are for, to find out if another player can do an equal job, so the other one can stick to offense or defense. They all ready know what the players from last year can do.
  17. I didn't mean anything negative about PNG football, I was just saying that you are giving too much credit to Cherokee. Cherokee or no Cherokee PNG has a good football team year in and year out.
  18. With the districts like they are this year no one better overlook anyone. They better bring their "game" each and every week.
  19. If you are out there on the field, you shouldn't need the band to pump you up. I guess the fans maybe.
  20. My view on this is it was only a scrimmage, it is a time for teams to work on what they need too. Even if it is the end of the scrimmage, WOS coaches thought they needed to work on the passing game at the same time BH got to work some more on their pass defense. I am sure that there was no intention to run up a score in a scrimmage. In general, coaches scheduel scrimmages against teams and coaches that they respect. I am sure that if you ask the BH coaches they would not think that there was anything wrong with it, in a scrimmage.
  21. Actually, there are more important things going on in a scrimmage than winning or losing.
  22. I'm sure he will be on here backing us up. If you read his postes he is also a Vidor Pirate fan...
  23. I think that it will be a hard played, hard hitting, and constructive scrimmage. It will be a very good test for Vidor and give WOS a few different looks from what they have seen thus far. I expect a defensive dominated scrimmage.
