That would be an awesome weekend! It would give all of us some big press. They do a thing like that up in East Texas on opening weekend. Those would be some great matchups with huge turnouts. Btw, no tailgating allowed at Rice, which is a bummer cause we were going to set up for our game with Montgomery on Sat.

Wonder if Dayton would like to renew their yearly loss to Friendswood? We could probably arrange for PNG to get Manvel at the same time. Just to get some of those early season games to have some meaning? Heh Heh. District 24-4A vs SETX.

Montgomery vs Pearland Dawson Predictions
fatdaddy replied to texasaggie's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This is a game to watch! I will take Dawson, but I know Montgomery is the real deal. I think this game is going to be brutally physical. Dawson does not miss tackles, and has athletes everywhere, Montgomery has had its share of big games but this will show just how well it really matches up. Last years Regional title holder is not going to just hand it over. After my Friendswood game, this is the one I would love to see in person. -
Friendswood vs. Humble 3rd Round Predictions?
fatdaddy replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
As a true Mustang fan, I certainly think we can win this week, and will be there pulling for them. This game though is going to be a tough one. I don't think Humble has seen an offense like FW has, and it is possible that we have not seen a defense like Humble's. Quick scouting report: The Mustangs are well coached true spread offense. We have a clutch QB, #6 Pete Meatzold, that can and will make all the throws. He spreads the ball around very well. We have 5 players that catch balls consistently, If you have a weakness in the secondary, we will find it. The true key to this years offense has been the quality of the running game, #5 Johnathan Johnson, a Junior Texas Tech commit, is a scary scatback kind of runner. When we spread the field with all the receivers, which you MUST honor, he has a broken field to run in, which he does very effectively. Meatzold is also a very good runner, he gives us another aspect that we have not had in the past. We have a huge O line, that is led by A&M commit #50 Ben Compton (6'3" 300, 4.9 40) at left Tackle, the rest of the line averages 260 plus. This year's offense may be the best overall we have had ever. Ask Dayton what they would think of a FW offense that is even better than any of the ones they ever faced. The Defense is underrated, and has given up a lot of points this year, but has held in several crunch time situations. Some of their negatives are due directly to the quality of the 24-4a opposition. They are well coached, usually in the right place at the right times, and faster than they get credit for, again more due to the quality of opposition than a distinct lack of speed. Our tackling has sometimes been a little suspect, we often have given up lots of yard after the first hit. We do have a couple of good D linemen, #66 Manning is a big fast DL that disrupts a lot of plays. Compton often plays DT in crunch time, he can absolutely crush an offensive line. Please Please Please kick it deep to us. I am sure you wont, and if you do your coach should be fired. When receiving KO's, whenever we can, we will run reverses, star formations, fakes, and anything else that Van Meter can come up with in that mad scientist brain of his. Our coverage is at best average, we have been beat several times on returns, but that is one place that pure speed can often burn us. Van Meter is a great offensive coach, we are well coached, and talented. We have not played inspired of late, and have won even without a lot of intensity. I do not see that being a problem this week, I expect a fired up intense team to show up. If that team does not show up, then we don't deserve to win anyway. Good luck, Humble, Just not too much if you don't mind -
I apologize to my LM comrades in 24-4A, but I think LM is toast here. LM has no discipline, their best RB is probably out for rest of year, and their coach is on the hot seat. I know that Dayton is always talented and disciplined, they historically get better as year goes on. LM can only go so far on athletic talent, the upset of El Campo was the exception, not the rule for their year. Dayton 42--- LM 21.

Isn't that the Old Miss Rebel Mascot that is now out of a job?

Summed up nicely Griff. FWD did not play their best, but I personally think that is more due to WOS than to our failings. I think WOS played outstanding and FWD managed to play just good enough to win. I do think we had a little luck go our way, but those things balance out by the end of the Season. I also agree that this is one of the rare games that both teams, after emotions have settled, can be proud of their efforts and come out a better team. After this game WOS can really know that they can beat any team they face this year. FWD learns that; (1) any team can show up and beat you if you do not absolutely bring it all every game, and (2) that we do have the intestinal fortitude to stand up and come back when knocked down. Good job Mustangs, all of em. PS. WOS, a buddy in Gilmer says they are hoping to see you again in the playoffs. Here to yall gettin to see em again, and this time, yall teach em some manners.

Angleton @ Dayton predictions!!!!!!!
fatdaddy replied to knightrider's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I gotta think that Dayton wins this one. Diggs is a monster, but 1 monster cannot beat you by himself. He will break some runs, and score some, but he has no help. I will say this about Dayton, they make adjustment through the year and continually get better. I don't think Angleton has caught on to this concept. Dayton as a team will beat the incredible athlete that operates as a one man wrecking crew. Having played both teams every year for the last 4. I have more respect for the Dayton Bronco's than Angleton, who simply seem to have no concept of adjustments or different schemes. Dayton in a good game 28-21. -
Angleton vs. Friendswood updates..FW Wins/Comments
fatdaddy replied to ryannygaard's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Angleton was not disciplined and had no game except for Diggs. If Diggs was in better shape he could have had at least two more scores. He got tired after several long runs and his production really fell off. Friendswood was well coached and in better shape. Friendswood offense was some kind of awesome. Pete Meatzold at QB was smooth, polished and in control at all times. His arm is stronger this year and his accuracy is dead nuts on most of the time. He dropped a 30 yd TD over a recievers outside shoulder that was incredible. FWD starting left tackle Compton, is 6-3, 308 lbs, and just dropped a 4.9 40 at an A&M camp this summer, needless to say, he is going to A&M now. Rest of line is huge too. WOS picked the wrong year to play FWD I think. -
Friendswood vs Angleton Predictions

Makes me nervous when we are picked by too many to win. Having said that, Diggs is a one man show this year. If we can contain him, I think they run out of options. His arm is not accurate, but his feet are incredible, keep him in the pocket and passing, and you cause them problems. We played D.J. Munroe two years in a row at Angleton, 1st year, with some supporting cast, they ate us up. The next year, however, he was a one man show, and we shut them down. FWD 28-21 -

Got the "lost for the year" info straight from a coach on Sunday. I hope he's not, but my info says he probably is. -

Just in from Alvin scrimmage. Beat Alvin handily, but lost a stud Junior O lineman (D-1 prospect) for the year with a knee injury. Great O-line goes to a real good O-line. I don't think it will affect the offense any immediately, but the loss of depth may really hurt us later in the year as we get deep into district. I think Friendswood wins against WO-S, but we have a more immediate worry with Angleton at Angleton this week. If we can handle Angleton's speed, then WO-S wont really worry me. FWD has speed this year where they need it, but I think the other poster had it right when he said that if FWD had real speed, they would have several State titles (see Southlake Carroll, and Lake Travis). -
Friendswood is a great example. They consistently make the playoffs and have had some deep runs, while having only a couple of really good players. The rest of the team has been average athlete wise. Coach Van Meter was one of the first Houston area High school coaches to really develop the spread. He was trying to figure out a way to compete with La Marque and Texas City without the plethora of athletes those schools seemed to pump out every year.
