Good article!!! I think the shows lack of success at this point has more to do with timing. Football players don't want to watch a player get hurt and have a life changing injury. The Show portrays the good & bad sides of Texas High School Football. Although it may be overly exaggerated at times, every one who is involved with high school football in Texas can relate to the settings and feel of the show. I don't think they are asking anyone to stop supporting their teams.

I have to admit, you surely put it on the young Cardinal team last week. One thing that you need to remember. Even though the BobCats where ahead, they still made STUPID penalties. 4 Cliping penalties in the first half alone. The Bobcats are good, but they can't win a close game with those kind of mistakes. Yeah, we had some fundamentally sound teams ans a few outstanding players. We just didnt have enough to go deep into the playoffs. The Lady Cardinals made a few runs in the playoffs in the mid to late 80's & 90's, but just couldn't get to the Regional tournament. Atleast not sense the late 60's win they won 2 State Championships. In 1978 the Cardinals won Didtrict & went to the regional tournament. Then there was a 10 year dry spell for the guys until 1988 when we won District again, but lost in Bi-District. Went to the playoffs a few more times, but out in the first round. FYI: Susan Smith played for the Lady Cardinals on the State Championship Teams and was fortunate to be able to Coach & lead the Westfield Mustang Girls to a 5A State Championship a few years ago. That is just a little High Island History.

Sorry about that Coop, wrong thread to be talkking about baseball. The HI basketball team will have a very tough year this year. With West HArdin droping down to 1A, they will have a very good chance of winning the district. Spurger will be very tough as will Hull-Daisetta, Evadale & Sabine Pass. The Cardinals will be in a rebuilding stage this year in basketball also. It will still be fun to watch. Go Cardinals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6 of the 9 starters last year where seniors, but we had 4 Freshman that had several at bats and are ready to take a leading role this year. We lost 1 pitcher, but will be returning 3, with a couple more young guys to back them up. I think Baseball will be our best sport this year with the District re-alignments. It should be interesting.

I have to honostly say, that an upset would be something that would be remembered forever. I am a realist, I know that the Cardinals will have to play a perfectly flawless game to win and Hull would have to make some big mistakes. If the Cardinals hold Hull to less than 30, it will be a very big confidence booster for the young men from HI. Stranger things have happened. Experience played a big part in this game. The young Cardinals will get better.

ECBucFan that is a very good prediction. Injuries will make it tough for the Cardinals to contain the Bulldogs for 4 Qtrs. Should still be a good game. Can't go against the Cardinals though.

CAlmond20 exactly what are you going to give High Island, the Game or What? I wish you guys the best of luck. I really miss the Ole Sabine Pass/High Island games from back in the day. Now that was alot of fun. I am just glad that ya'll are back in the District. November 3, will definitely be fun. Looking forward to it.

Jaws that is a very good assesment of the District. The term lack luster is a bit much, but hey its an opinion. 3rd place will be a toss up. Only time will tell.

Coach Stapert is a good Coach. He has spent some time at West Hardin in the late and High Island. Good luck this year guys.

Sabine Pass lost to Colmesneil Varsity, beat Chester and beat Colmesneil JV. High Island lost to Kountze, Baytown Christian & Deweyville, beat Chester & will play Colmesneil Varsity on Thursday of this week. High Island is out of school on Friday, which is why they will be playing on Thursday. The Cardinals are geting better each week!!!!!!!!!!
