Goals. All teams should have goals established and parents of potential players should have an idea on what level of play they want to get involved in. Specific team goals can vary from skill development, qualification to national tournaments, winning a national tournament, college exposure, social recreational activities, etc. or a multiple of these goals.  The subject would be broad, so, for starters, I narrowed it down to each team's primary level of play objective based on association, assuming the team's goals to be qualifying for nationals in ASA or participating in nationals for the other associations listed. Its not intended to be a witch hunt and would appreciate a positive and open tone from anyone with comments. I feel like this would be a great way to assist a parent of a potential player to find the team best suited for their wants and needs. Could also serve as an educational tool for parents of the younger age groups to recognize the different associations and how they differ.

Lot's of advertisements lately for tryouts.  Let's find out what the ultimate tournament objectives are for each team. Coaches, post what your tournament objectives are and I'll populate the matrix. Could've put a column in for "Showcase", but that would fall under Open ONLY, I guess. This will also give everyone an idea on all the local select teams out there. If the list posted last Friday (on the deadline date) did not change, I count 47 teams for this weekend (46 if one of the TX Glory teams entered was Adkins who has already qualified). That count also eliminated Power Glowacz, Impact Piro and TX Blaze from the posted list who can't play because they hav already qualified. It appears that no TX team qualified this past weekend in the OK national qualifier. 1st time to play on the College St fields in quite some time this past weekend. Infield dirt played pretty well, but there are definitely some "rolling hills" in the infields.

Noticed the other 2 TX Gold Qualifiers are listed on www.registerasa.com with listing of teams and brackets.  Will the Beaumont tournament info be listed there at some point? The San Antonio Gold Regional will be played this weekend.  The www.registerasa.com site shows 90 teams registered for it, along with their status (73 approved, 17 declined). The draw was this morning and the bracket should be posted on it tonight. 3 bids awarded from this tournament.

I didn't see TX Brats on the list for 2010, but don't know which age group they are supposed to be in.

[/quote]Are you talking about the CO Indy or Fireworks tournament or some other tournament? I didn't see, nor did I expect to see, the TX Ball Brats listed on the Indy or Fireworks site. If this is a new team, it is highly unlikely they would have registered for Indy or FW in time (need to register at least 1 year prior to the next year's event) or, most importantly, that there is any credibile history for acceptance, unless you have someone involved with enough clout to pull some strings. Fireworks doesn't mind holding onto your money though after you've been declined!

Perhaps IFA could use it as a tool, but the best tool would be for the JUCO players to personally let coaches know they are playing in it.

I would have rather seen another layer or two added to the Gold organization tournamenys where districts at least had a voice. With that being said he did get some changes that were needed. The one area of change I disagree with is prohibiting participation of college kids with eligibility remaining. With the exception of East Coast kids, they have nowhere else to play. A better choice would have been to limit the number of college kids. This hurts small organizations a lot more than the large ones. [/quote]Doesn't absolutely leave those with eligibility remaining nowhere else to play, but their choices are limited to ASA 18U, IFA, etc. Doubtful most will continue playing with only those options. What I have noticed is that it has somewhat leveled the playing field. No longer are the Impact Gold's of the softball world grabbing up the cream of the college freshman's with eligibility remaining. Neither Impact Gold team qualified last weekend at the ASA Territorial, nor did Impact Gold Piro qualify for the Premier the weekend before. Impact Gold Burke was an invitee to the Premier.

[/quote]I was looking at the bracket sent out on 5/29. The later bracket sent out on 6/2 did have VooDoo on it. I thought I remember them being there, but thought I was getting it confused with seeing them at the Gold qualifier last weekend at same park. Think it's an age issue with me. But the total number of teams in the 18U bracket was still at 38 according to the 6/2 bracket.  There were 8 other automatic invite teams playing a round robin and a handful of 16U teams playing the 16U qualifier.

I'm sure Candrea makes some decent money annually from ASA's A.C.E. Cerfification program. I don't have a problem with anyone making money, as long as you are getting what you paid for. The Premier tournament had planned on going head to head with ASA. Once ASA caved, the Premier compromised and probably tried working around ASA events which put the TX Premier qualifier on a less than desirable weekend.  However, if you want to go, there is another July qualifier in NJ with teams from NM and CA attending.

Premier will be played the week following ASA Gold. Was a good tournament from the aspect of quality of teams present.  But timing of the event before Div 1 finished world series limited the number of college coaches attending to 3 or 4. Also several players missing due to graduation. Honestly don't think it will last long, as a nationwide tournament anyways.  The planners probably accomplished their 6 objectives: 1. Eliminate college players from participating in ASA Gold 2. Make someone some money 3. Return to the rotation of east, west and central locations for Gold Nationals 4. Make someone else some money 5. Allow metal cleats in ASA Gold 6. Make a little more money

Also TX Magic from Texas.  Was wrong about Voo Doo qualifying. They were not at this tournament. But they are on the Premier list, so must have received an invite. Unsure of the 4th team to qualify. There were 38 teams.  Houston Power Krysiak and Sudden Impact qualified from the winner's bracket.  N.O. Voo Doo and New Mexico Sundancers qualified from the loser's bracket. This is per the Premier web site. Tried to attach the bracket, but upload folder was full.

Anybody have a link to a list of teams signed up for the Beaumont ASA Gold Regiional tournament or the San Antonio Gold Regional next weekend?

ASA 23U 2009 Nationals had 9 teams and was held in Virginia. A California team won it. The other 8 teams were all pretty much local (Va, Pa, Md). Didn't see any tournaments listed on VTD or eteamz for 23U.

This lists new rule changes. 18A was already at 43 ft.

ASA Rule changes for 2010.... *Once a player participates in an intercollegiate softball program for a university, college, or junior/community college, she is ineligible to play in the Junior Olympic Gold Program. This National Championship Final shall be scheduled to conclude on the first Saturday in August and not be scheduled more than seven (7) days. This event will not have an opening ceremonies event and the managers meeting cannot be scheduled prior to 6:00 PM on the prior Sunday. I agree with you JT. The 2B's off the walls turn into HR's and the OF flyouts turn into 2B's. Looked at comparisons between B. Bonds and T. Williams. Williams had a slightly better AB/HR ratio thru age 33 (pre-juice). Williams actually improved after age 33 by 2.3 AB/HR. But not nearly as dramatically as Bonds, an increase by 6.9 AB/HR. Although it appears that Williams may have juiced up following the '59 season. He had the best AB/HR ratio of his career in his final season, '60. I did not compare Bonds and Williams "tool's" of which it was stated that Bonds had 5 of them.
