How'd it go on Sunday?

Oh yes, there's that topic. How about others: "To Much Select Softball" [Hidden Content] Multi sport players activities interfering with select softball commitments "Who doesn't that is the question" [Hidden Content] same topic "Bringing SETX softball together" [Hidden Content] "I finally get it (Sorry it took me so long)" [Hidden Content] LOCKED - the eventual antithesis of the previous listed thread ;D But please NO SOFTBALL WORD CONGA LINE!

One of the things I like about Summer ball is you can have a bad weekend and the next weekend you can start over with a clean slate. As far as the coaching goes, I would think that it would be a little more difficult coaching at the high school level than a summer ball team: receive a new group of players year in and year out; must evaluate what buttons to push for each new kid only as good as the talent feeding into your school; no recruiting (probably) could ask for "tactical assistance" from parents; but what strings would be attached? could ask for "tactical assistance" from parents II; how certain would they be that they are getting good advice? younger and/or inexperienced coaches decisions are publicly scrutinized; are summer ball coaches better coaches today than when they first coached at 6U. Some say that they are getting paid for their coaching and should perform and I agree to an extent. But I think a true evaluation of a coach should also focus heavily on what processes they are using to further educate themselves on the game and what research they are doing to ensure they are using the proper resources for their education. Also, a coach should learn the different psychological aspects for each player. There is no cookie cutter out there producing these kids. What works for 1 doesn't work on them all.

We need an extremely controversial thread to get this going. Need some moderators to look back and find old nasty deleted threads to reopen to get this baby rollin'

What school are we talking about? After pondering etbu's question a little longer, I came up with a great idea. Why don't we start a "POLL" thread with a list of several area High Schools and have everyone vote on the school they think is being talked about? Would probably be as much fun as the next moderator poll!
-
Hey Weed, I think it's time to retitle your thread to Readers response to NEGATIVE coaching remarks. Particularly if etbu's question is answered. I'll narrow it down for you a little etbu.......not a team in 21-5A (particularly Tyner, Chambliss & Sorensen)

Seems like I read where we do have one "STINKING GENIUS" out there. What damage did the sprinkler system do in Baytown this morning?

Had to be in his pre-tech days. Probably day dreaming about how people make those words scroll across the computer screen. Mesmerizing!

Is this the actual quote: [move]Cause I love me some me [/move] You make the call DAMan: Is it an actual quote or a b-a-g fan rendition of a quote? Tough call ???

b-a-g, Thank God you laid off the scrolling marquee for that post!

Glad you asked! It's a crap shot going skiing at X-mas break. I go just about every year at xmas. Sometimes you are lucky and there's snow other years very little snow. Not enough time for accumulation compared to spring break. Also, xmas skiing is MUCH more expensive (holiday rates) than Spring break (peak season rates) and they can't go during regular season rates because of school. Could have been the last year they go as a family with one kid a senior. Will the kids have the same spring breaks in the future? Will their future new jobs allow them time off to meet everyone's schedule? etc. I totally understand the frustration, but their program has something good going. They just need to go back out and concentrate on kicking some butt! Oh, and skiing is a sport......just not a HS team sport in SETX.

Is commitment just for game day? How much would Shannon have been missed if everyone on the team had the same commitment to practice as Shannon. I use Shannon specifically but the same applies to many other players and teams. Answer these 2 questions: 1. Is it fair to the rest of the team that a dedicated softball player missed a game(s) because of a vacation? 2. Is it fair to a dedicated softball player that the rest of the team (or majority) take off for 8 months after HS softball season ends? No one chimed in on multi-sport player commitment priorities.
-
Where do you go snow skiing in the summer? She also has a commitment to her travel team in the summer. Why aren't any of the multi-sport advocates chiming in here on their behalf? Those players can be "guilty" of the same thing. You're wanting to challenge their level of commitment? You must not know how many hours a year Shannon puts into softball. What pct of other HS players out there have made that type of commitment to softball? That is not a bashing of the girls do not want to commit that amount of time to the game, but to look a commitment in a different light. I won't speak for the Sain's, but my daughter's first commitment is to travel ball. She's part of that team 8 months of the year, with the other 4 months for the HS team.

That is the latest I've heard on these situations. So in the book you would give the hiter a hit and the fielder an error correct? That is the way I would score it and the run would be unearned because the popup should have ended the inning.
-
For a particular example: 2 outs and runner on 3rd (who had reached based on something other than an error). Batter pops up in foul territory, fielder drops the routine foul flyball. Next pitch the batter singles to RF and the baserunner scores. Is this an EARNED or UNEARNED run? and is an error charged to the fielder even though no one got on base nor advanced on that particular play? To add to this scenario, say the next batter then homers and 2 runs score, are these 2 runs earned?

This is like De Je Vu all over again! Texas is football, Indiana is Basketball and Alaska is Curling(?). We gonna start beating that dead horse again!

Plays for Saudi Arabia. He's the largest kid to ever play in the LLWS. Ironically the 2nd largest player ever to play is 6'-3" 190 lbs. He's his teammate. TV put it in this perspective: Shaquille O'Neal at 13 6'-6" shoe size 16 This kid at 13 6'-8" shoe size 19
-
What did the kid have to lose? If he got a hit, it would be the happiest day of his life. I think I have seen several MLB players strikeout in that situation. This guy is painting the picture that the kid is already dead! Show the kid some respect and pitch to him as if he were the best hitter on the team! He's a survivor for Christ's sake. How did that coach make it to the Championship game with that type of lineup strategy? He should be strung up for putting that kid in that position if the kid didn't feel up to it.
