The twine hung behind home plate did not reach high enough to keep many foul tips within the park. Fans overflowed from the limited, rust-stained bleachers to standing along the first and third baselines beyond the dugouts. One of two rows of lights in the outfield was out. The conditions at Dayton were not ideal for Nederland in a 2-0 loss Thursday night and neither was the Bulldogs' play. "Embarrassing, just embarrassing," one Nederland player repeated to himself as he gathered his things after the opening round Game 1 defeat. The Bulldogs recorded six hits through the first four innings, but did not manage a hit off Dayton junior pitcher Kevin Roe in the final three frames. Hope-filled chances were ultimately tarnished. "We had opportunities, we just didn't get the big hit," Nederland coach Cody Robbins said. "I thought Mitchell Sanderson pitched well and gave us an opportunity to win." The Bulldogs' next opportunity is Game 2, 7 p.m. today at Nederland. Game 3, if necessary, is 1 p.m. Saturday at Nederland. Read more: [Hidden Content]
Improvements are on the way---soon. From the Beaumont Enterprise Lumberton's 10-year wait to return to the baseball playoffs resulted in a forgettable 10-0 loss against District 19-4A runner-up Kingwood Park at Vidor High School on Thursday night. The opening of their best-of-three Class 4A bidistrict playoff series against the Panthers (23-7) couldn't have gone much worse for the Raiders, so at least the 10-run rule invoked after five innings abbreviated the punishment for Lumberton. "I think a lot of these guys had never been in this position before," said Lumberton coach Mike Stewart. "We had some jitters, and I kind of expected that. (The Panthers) are a good team and hit the ball well, but we helped them out with some walks and other mistakes." Kingwood Park pitcher Conner Baumgardner not only shutout Lumberton (18-12), the third place team in District 20-4A, but earned a five-inning perfect game in the process. Baumgardner benefitted from a generous strike zone, mowing down the first six Raiders batters on strikes, en route to notching eight strikeouts in the game. He never allowed a ball to reach an outfielder until Lumberton's final batter, Chris Campbell, lined out to the left fielder. Panthers players then swarmed Baumgardner between the pitcher's mound and first base to celebrate his stellar performance. Baumgardner needed only 64 pitches to complete his gem, throwing 46 of them for strikes. Read more: [Hidden Content]

If they come out cocky, bad things will happen for the hill and good things for the bears. If BH plays ball like they have all season, good things will continue at the hill.
No chance of BH coming out over confident or looking ahead. Coach Denny is too good of a coach to allow that to happen. BH takes this in two.
Can be one of the best coaches in the state, but you can coach mental preparation for playoff games. Playoff games separate the men from the boys. LCM in two. Plus Griff is an amazing coach himself.
He has a State Title on his resume already with Kingwood, so I think he may know how to coach the mental and physical part of this game :)

Bh won 1-0 and 9-7 i believe. So unless bh is way overrated at the #1 team in the state i like daytons chances if they play good ball.
Or BH wasn't concerned about the Broncos, so they saved thier pitchers ;)
thames pitched both games i believe. I thought he was bhills ace. Maybe he wasnt.
Just messing I'm not sure how pitched ;D Thames is the #1 he may of pitched in the first game, but doubt Dayton put 9 runs on Thames in game two. I think game 2 we pitched everyone but me ;D
#9 was pitching for BH
That's Thames then. Did he play the whole game or come in for the save? I know Dayton went up on BH like 5-0 before something changed.
