It was a joke about PNG guys ::) No telling why the guy is here, but I am glad to see some intrest from parts outside of BH and its surrounding counties. Keep bringing them in from afar! We need some fresh air and someone younger IMHO. No uncles, cousins , friends of friends, just a good hard working football mind that has some balls and not afraid to hurt someones feelings ;D -

Who is saying this? Am I missing a thread?
There was a poster right after last season who posted that BH was going to be unstoppable in this district. He posted multiple times. More recently, BH posters have commented as though they are surprised that the non-district record hasn't translated to district. I'm pointing out why that's the case and why its not surprising.
Ahhhhhh ;) It may be an over excited kid talking, but I don't think anyone at BH is thinking we have a shot at a State Title or that we are some world beaters ;D However we do seem to have a fair team that could suprise a team if they don't play 100%. BH has never been a basketball school (At least Boys), so anytime we have a team that is competitve it is a great thing at the Hill. I hope that turns around one day and we seem to have gotten alot more competetive over the last decade, so it just may. Good Luck BH Boys!!! -

Clear Springs charges by the Lady Eagles By Nathan Hague The Baytown Sun Published December 31, 2009 MONT BELVIEU — The Barbers Hill Lady Eagles fell 13 points short of winning the championship game of the Gulf Coast Classic Wednesday. The Lady Eagles lost 53-40 to the Clear Springs Chargers. The boys championship game between Barbers Hill and C.E. King was not complete at press time. A wrapup of that game and tournament will appear in Friday’s Baytown Sun. Jasmine Carter scored 13 points for the Lady Eagles Wedneday night. Kendall Shaw dropped in eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. Despite the loss, Barbers Hill Coach John Chancellor was proud of his team’s effort. “It’s a disappointing loss but we’ve got to play high level teams like this if we want to play at a high level ourselves,†he said. “The heart, energy and intensity was there tonight but we learned we’ve got to have a go-to offense. We just didn’t execute offensively.†The Lady Eagles are scheduled to return to action when they hit the road Tuesday to take on C.E. King. “It will be a real test,†Chancellor said. “It will be a good district game.†Sterling’s Lady Rangers won their last game of the tournament, defeating the Crosby Lady Cougars 54-49. Fort Bend Austin beat Little Cypress-Mauriceville 56-33 to win the championship of the girls consolation bracket. Beaumont Ozen beat Hastings 58-55 before losing to Friendswood 54-51 in the girls third-place game. As for the boys games, the Sterling boys came out of the Gulf Coast Classic with the third-place trophy after beating the Nederland Bulldogs 60-52 on Wednesday night. The win advances Sterling’s record to 13-9. Andre Corley came up big, scoring 38 points — 23 of them from the free throw line — for the Rangers. The Bulldogs’ leading scorer was Dionte Forney, who finished with 27 points. “We’re very pleased with these young men,†Sterling coach Mark Patton said. “Obviously we were hoping to play against Barbers Hill in the championship but we’ll take it. Anytime you go 4-1 in a tournament like this, it says a lot. Hopefully we can stay aggressive and keep improving. We’ll need it for district.†Before advancing to the third-place game, the Rangers beat the Dayton Broncos 71-63. Three Rangers finished in double-digits. Corley scored 27 as Williams and Karmon Glover each finished with 10 points. Sterling’s next game is scheduled for Tuesday when they take on the Woodlands on the road. The Lee boys basketball team played its last game of the Gulf Coast Classic on Wednesday, falling to Nederland 73-64. Jaevon Richardson was the high scorer for the Ganders with 12 points. “The guys work hard and it shows they really want to win,†Lee coach Trent Manuel said, “but we’re just making too many mental mistakes. We’re doing things we feel good about but keep coming up short in the end. “We were really about two minutes from a chance to go the championship game against C.E. King but the mental mistakes hurt us.†Among those mental mistakes, Manuel said the biggest is bad shot selection. “We need to get back and practice and get more comfortable with our shot selection. We’ll be OK, we just need to regroup.†Lee’s next game is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Ganders host New Caney. The Anahuac Panthers fell short in the championship game of the consolation bracket on Tuesday, losing 65-46 to the Montgomery Bears. Jordan Tarver dropped 19 points to lead his team in scoring. The loss sets Anahuac’s record to 6-10. The other Wednesday boys game involved Livingston beating Pasadena 57-52. The Barbers Hill Eagles were in the championship game against C.E. King but went it went past deadline. Check out tomorrow’s paper for the results. -

Eagles take second place By Nathan Hague The Baytown Sun Published December 31, 2009 The Barbers Hill girls basketball team came up in second place in the Gulf Coast Classic and was followed by the boys who did the same thing. The Eagles lost 65-60 to C.E. King in the Championship game. Austin Crawley had the most points with 20. C.E. King’s Patrick scored 20. The Eagles record now stands at 15-5. “The kids competed hard,†Barbers Hill coach Nathan Toon said. “They’re real competitors who really hate to lose. That’s the kind of attitude anyone who coaches or plays has. I think that’s one that will drive us and help us win games.†The game was back and forth all night, and went down to the wire. The Eagles went into the fourth quarter trailing 41-39. With 1:30 left to play, Johnson’s dunk gave the Panthers a comfortable 59-53 lead as C.E. King didn’t look back. The teams began to exchange free-throws and that’s where the Panthers put the stamp on the Eagles. “We found ourselves in positions to win the game tonight, but couldn’t quite pull it off,†Toon said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to finish the job from here on out.†The Eagles and Panthers are scheduled to rematch on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Like Wednesday night’s game, The Eagles will host Tuesday night’s game. Toon said he hopes Wednesday night’s loss will give them motivation. “It’s been a good tournament with a lot of competition and I think in the end this will motivate us to keep pushing harder. We’ll be ready to go.†The boys all-tournament team consists of the following: Montgomery—Trent Phillips Anahuac—Jordan Tarver Sterling—Andre Corley Sterling—DeShawn Williams Nederland—Dionte Forney Nederland—Chris Cunningham Barbers Hill— Carson Asbury Barbers Hill— Jake Miller C.E. King—JaTavius McCardell C.E. King—Emonte McMillian Tournament MVP: C.E. Write up from the Baytown Sun MONT BELVIEU — The Sterling Rangers and Lee Ganders basketball teams each opened up with a win in the Gulf Coast Classic Monday at Barbers Hill. The Ganders defeated the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears in a 48-44 final. The Rangers got their first win in a 49-44 final over the Montgomery Bears. However, the Ganders later fell short to C.E. King in a 65-61 final. Jaevon Richardson led the Ganders in both games with 13 in the first and 17 in the second. The Ganders record now stands at 5-10. “The kids played well but made some mistakes at crucial times,†Lee coach Trent Manuel said. “We were trading baskets with them. We would come down and hit a shot and our defense wouldn’t get back quick in time and that allowed them to score. We can’t be doing that if we want a chance to win.†The Ganders next game is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start today. The Rangers’ win over Montgomery was their only game of the day.
