  13. BH Sports Report Barbers Hill returned to Little Cypress-Mauriceville in a rematch against the host Bears and area team Orangfield. In the opening game, the Eagles beat Orangefield 15-4. Colby Henscey, Alex Rocha and Jay Burditt hit home runs. The winning pitcher was Rocha. In the second game, BH edged LC-M by a score of 6-5. Freshman Kody Thompson picked up the win. Barbers Hill is now 9-6 for the season and will continue district play on Tuesday as they host Kingwood Park. The JV contest is scheduled for 4:00 with the varsity to begin at 7:00. Game Report from Wayne Henscey: BH-15 ORANGEFIELD-4 BH picked up right where they left off from the C.E. King game. Tony Carmona got things started off with a 1-out double in the btm. of the 1st. Colby Henscey followed that up with a 2-Run blast to the left-center power alley ( his 3rd HR in 3 games ). BH would put 3 more runs on the board in the 1st after a Peterson HBP, a Lyday single, and a big 3-R HR from Alex Rocha to give BH an early 5-0 lead that would continue to grow throughout the game. Alex Rocha would get the win on the mound with the help of some solid defense including a couple of double plays. The combo of Carmona to Clifton would turn one, and after the subs came on in the 5th, Brandon Wright and Kyle Leggett would turn another. BH tacked on 3 more runs in the 2nd with hits from Henscey, Peterson, Rocha, and Ponder. Orangefield would get 3 back in the 3rd on a 3-R HR to cut the lead to 8-3, but BH would tack on 3 more in the bottom of the 3rd with a Padgett walk, Carmona double and a double from Henscey off of the left field fence. BH put 4 more runs on the board in the 4th inning after inserting several subs into the game. After 2 outs, Blaine McDonald, Padgett, and Kyle Leggett would walk, McDonald scoring on a passed ball. Burditt would enter the game to hit for Henscey and hit the first pitch over the left field wall for a 3-R HR to end the scoring for BH. Burditt pitched the 2nd inning facing 3 batters getting a pop up to 2nd and 2 ground ball outs on 6 pitches. BH would add a run in the 4th inning and again in the 6th inning. Freshmen Kody Thompson would pitch 4 innings giving up only 1 run until getting in trouble to start the 7th giving up 2 straight singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs and BH leading 6-1. Rocha came on in relief and gave up 2 consecutive singles and hit a batter to make the score 6-4 before recording the 1st out of the inning on a ground ball feilder's choice. Rocha would hit another batter to make the score 6-5 before getting the 2nd out on a force out at home and the final out on a bases loaded line drive out to center field. 15. From the BH sports report Barbers Hill Splits at LC-M Barbers Hill got a split in the double header hosted by Little Cypress-Mauriceville. BH lost to LC-M by a score of 8-3. The Eagles defeated Orangefield 7-6. The highlight of the contest was the complete game victory by freshman Jeff Leggett. Barbers Hill is now 6-6 and will travel to C.E. King on Friday. The following are reports from Wayne Henscey: BH 3 LCM 8 Tony Carmona got the start on the mound in this one. Carmona was tagged with the loss but pitched more than good enough to win. Carmona gave up 6 runs but only 1 of them was earned. LCM got 4 runs in the 1st inning with only 1 run earned. The other 3 scored on a dropped fly ball with 2 outs and the bases loaded. BH battled back to within 4-2 in the 3rd with Padgett and Carmona starting the inning off with singles and Henscey driving both of them in with a 2-run triple. BH was unable to get Henscey in from 3rd with no outs. BH added another run in the top of the 4th after Padgett hit a 2-out double to left center and Carmona drove him in with an rbi single. LCM put the game out of reach in the btm of the 4th when an error on a routine ground ball extended the inning and allowed LCM to score 3 more runs. PITCHING Carmona - 4 ip, 6 hits, 7 runs 1 earned, 2 bb, 7 k, 3 hb Young - 2 ip, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 bb, 1 k OFFENSE Padgett - 2 for 3, 2b, 2 runs, bb Carmona - 2 for 4, run, rbi Henscey - 1 for 3, 3b, bb, 2 rbi Rocha - 1 for 3, 2b, bb BH 7 ORANGEFIELD 6 This was a fun game to watch. BH brought up a couple of kids from the JV to help out with pitching for this tournament due to the district games. Freshman Kyle Leggett got the start in this one. A daunting task for a freshman with his first varsity appearance being against a 3A state ranked team. Leggett didn't allow any of this to bother him. Leggett surprised everyone with a 7 inning complete game win. Leggett helped himself with a 2-out rbi single in the 2nd inning helping BH to a 4 - 0 lead. Leggett showed a lot of composure after giving up that 4 run lead in the btm of the 2nd with 3 walks, 2 hbp, and a 2-R HR. Freshman Kody Thompson, who was also brought up from JV, helped his teammate out with a 2-out rbi single of his own in the 3rd to help BH regain the lead. Leggett came back with a vengeance in the btm. of the 3rd by striking out the side on 12 pitches. Heath Padgett extended the lead to 6-4 with a leadoff HR in the 4th. Leggett held that margin until the bottom of the 6th when Orangefield got one back with a solo HR. Colby Henscey lead off the 7th with a solo HR which ended up being the game winner, giving Leggett the cushion he would need to finish the game. Orangefield got 1 run back on an error by Thompson at 3rd on a ground ball but Leggett was able to finish the game after a nice bases loaded 5U-3 DP from Thompson to redeem himself and a game ending strikeout from Leggett. PITCHING Leggett - 7 ip, 6 hits, 6 runs 5 earned, 4 bb, 4 k, 2 hbp OFFENSE Lyday - 4 for 4, 2 runs, 2b Padgett - 1 for 3, HR, rbi, 2 runs, hbp Henscey - 1 for 3, HR, 2 rbi, run, bb Thompson - 1 for 2, rbi, hbp, run Leggett - 1 for 3, rbi, run

  17. BH baseball team reloading, not rebuilding By Robert Chambliss Correspondent Published March 12, 2009 Editor’s note: This is one of a series of overviews of area baseball and softball teams. After riding a stable of strong arms to the area finals last year, the Barbers Hill baseball team is looking for a boost from its hitting and defense this time around. “We’ll be just fine,†veteran head coach Gil Stalbaum said as he began his 22nd year at the program’s helm. The Eagles, 24-7 a year ago, had four pitchers signed to college scholarships, so pitching was the big question mark as this season began. “Our defense is playing really well this year, and offensively we have had some bright spots as well,†Stalbaum said. “On the mound, Jay Burditt has stepped up and pitched well for us. “Everybody else has had moments (pitching) where they looked good, but we just haven’t had the consistency out of our staff.†Burditt, junior Daniel Mitchell and seniors Alex Rocha, Matt Peterson and Jared Baker have been Barbers Hill’s main pitchers this season. “Most nights we will start nine seniors,†Stalbaum said, “so that aspect really helps our team. They have been playing together for four years now, and I really think they understand where they are all at on the field at all times.†The receiving end of the Eagle battery is in the more than capable hands of senior Jake Ponder, a four-year varsity player who is the team’s cleanup hitter. Three-year starter Tony Carmona is at shortstop and he and senior center fielder Heath Padgett are leading the team in hitting early on. Padgett, the leadoff hitter, has 11 stolen bases in nine games. Cody Clifton is returning at second base, Jared Baker is at third base after playing there part-time last year and Peterson, Rocha and Tyler Lyday rotate at first. Colby Henscey, Burditt and Rocha join Padgett in the outfield. After starting 3-0, the Eagles now own a 4-5 season record after running into some tough Class 5A competition at the Ewell Jackson tournament last week in Houston. They are looking to find themselves before opening District 19-4A play Tuesday at Galena Park. “We have a tough district, where most of the teams in here can make the playoffs, but if we keep our confidence up we will be good,†Stalbaum said. “I think the confidence level of these guys so far has been a big key for their success. And I think if they keep it up then we will be all right.†Ponder expects great things out of his team. “If we stay healthy and play good, then we could go far,†Ponder said. “With the team we have this year, I still expect to be the frontrunner in district play.†Coach Stalbaum also thinks well of his team. “It is going to be a lot more difficult for us to repeat, but I think we could do it. We just have to keep all of the factors (pitching, hitting, defense) of the game playing well. If we do this then I expect great things out of the team.â€
  18. Don't worry Mustang I'm not giving up ;D I bleed blue and will be here for the long haul!!! I agree with you and Rip in defending the team being called undisciplined. BH is called a lot of thing ,but overall discipline always seems to be solid for the Hill in all sports. I think they are probally still looking for a leader and someone will step up and take on that role.
  19. I'm suprised BH has started out like this as well. Something is going on! Hopefully these guys will get back on track and finish strong!
  20. Congrats PNG. Ugly showing for BH
  21. Looks like district! 5 of the 8 teams are in our district 8)
  22. Everyone beter bring their water cleats this weekend is looking bad!!!
  23. I have been looking ,but haven't seen anything!!!! This is one heck of a tournament I hope BH can stay in it for years to come!
  24. Manvel rallies for 3-2 win over Barbers Hill MANVEL – Tony Carmona’s two-run homer scored Heath Padgett, who had singled ahead of him, to give Barbers Hill a 2-1 third inning lead Tuesday. But the Eagles didn’t score again and fell 3-2 to Manvel, with the home team scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The loss dropped BH to 3-2 on the season. The Eagles play in the Ewell Jackson tournament this weekend, beginning with a Thursday game against Aldine at Fort Bend Elkins. Barbers Hill had five hits Tuesday, including doubles by Matt Peterson in the second and Colby Henscey in the fifth. But their teammates couldn’t chase either run across home plate. Alex Rocha, 1-1, went the distance for the Eagles, allowing just five hits while striking out four.
  25. Cleveland Wins and in two years wins it all!
