Barbers Hill Baseball (not that strong)
BHFAN replied to baseballdream's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
BH baseball team reloading, not rebuilding By Robert Chambliss Correspondent Published March 12, 2009 Editor’s note: This is one of a series of overviews of area baseball and softball teams. After riding a stable of strong arms to the area finals last year, the Barbers Hill baseball team is looking for a boost from its hitting and defense this time around. “We’ll be just fine,†veteran head coach Gil Stalbaum said as he began his 22nd year at the program’s helm. The Eagles, 24-7 a year ago, had four pitchers signed to college scholarships, so pitching was the big question mark as this season began. “Our defense is playing really well this year, and offensively we have had some bright spots as well,†Stalbaum said. “On the mound, Jay Burditt has stepped up and pitched well for us. “Everybody else has had moments (pitching) where they looked good, but we just haven’t had the consistency out of our staff.†Burditt, junior Daniel Mitchell and seniors Alex Rocha, Matt Peterson and Jared Baker have been Barbers Hill’s main pitchers this season. “Most nights we will start nine seniors,†Stalbaum said, “so that aspect really helps our team. They have been playing together for four years now, and I really think they understand where they are all at on the field at all times.†The receiving end of the Eagle battery is in the more than capable hands of senior Jake Ponder, a four-year varsity player who is the team’s cleanup hitter. Three-year starter Tony Carmona is at shortstop and he and senior center fielder Heath Padgett are leading the team in hitting early on. Padgett, the leadoff hitter, has 11 stolen bases in nine games. Cody Clifton is returning at second base, Jared Baker is at third base after playing there part-time last year and Peterson, Rocha and Tyler Lyday rotate at first. Colby Henscey, Burditt and Rocha join Padgett in the outfield. After starting 3-0, the Eagles now own a 4-5 season record after running into some tough Class 5A competition at the Ewell Jackson tournament last week in Houston. They are looking to find themselves before opening District 19-4A play Tuesday at Galena Park. “We have a tough district, where most of the teams in here can make the playoffs, but if we keep our confidence up we will be good,†Stalbaum said. “I think the confidence level of these guys so far has been a big key for their success. And I think if they keep it up then we will be all right.†Ponder expects great things out of his team. “If we stay healthy and play good, then we could go far,†Ponder said. “With the team we have this year, I still expect to be the frontrunner in district play.†Coach Stalbaum also thinks well of his team. “It is going to be a lot more difficult for us to repeat, but I think we could do it. We just have to keep all of the factors (pitching, hitting, defense) of the game playing well. If we do this then I expect great things out of the team.†-
Barbers Hill Baseball (not that strong)

Don't worry Mustang I'm not giving up ;D I bleed blue and will be here for the long haul!!! I agree with you and Rip in defending the team being called undisciplined. BH is called a lot of thing ,but overall discipline always seems to be solid for the Hill in all sports. I think they are probally still looking for a leader and someone will step up and take on that role. -

Manvel 3 Barbers Hill 2 FINAL
BHFAN replied to Bobcatfan4life's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Manvel rallies for 3-2 win over Barbers Hill MANVEL – Tony Carmona’s two-run homer scored Heath Padgett, who had singled ahead of him, to give Barbers Hill a 2-1 third inning lead Tuesday. But the Eagles didn’t score again and fell 3-2 to Manvel, with the home team scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The loss dropped BH to 3-2 on the season. The Eagles play in the Ewell Jackson tournament this weekend, beginning with a Thursday game against Aldine at Fort Bend Elkins. Barbers Hill had five hits Tuesday, including doubles by Matt Peterson in the second and Colby Henscey in the fifth. But their teammates couldn’t chase either run across home plate. Alex Rocha, 1-1, went the distance for the Eagles, allowing just five hits while striking out four. -
Cleveland Wins and in two years wins it all!
-
Not to count that Dayton doubles Liberty in enrollment.
-
Liberty would not have a chance against the Bronco's! Maybe back in the day this was a game ,but now it would just be ugly 8)

give the guy a chance to do things on his own. Its obvious the kids like him, he loves Port Arthur, and hes a great guy. I for one hope he succeeds. Let me break this all down to you: He was with Colbert @TJ. He was with Colbert @PAM. He was with RTG for 3 years. That's at least 9 total. Remember when I posted on another thread about RTG not calling plays etc.? I didn't wanna put it out there at the time but Kenny called me here @work to tell me he wasn't the one calling plays despite RTG not wearing headsets, and KRH, the so-called OC, had the headsets on. He told me he only called 2 plays the whole season. Both came against the Woodlands(loss) which both were pass plays. One for a pick 6 by THW and one for a Titan TD. We talked for an hour and he want to make me understand, in no uncertain terms, he wasn't the one calling plays on offense.... Now let me further break this down: PAISD screwed up big time splitting the job of AD from the HC. So that's why the list was so thin. Quality coaches won't come here for the pay. Out of the 5 or so who made the final cut, KRH probably low balled the other 4 offering the district a pay rate of $5/hr. So naturally, they took Kenny cuz he works cheap. But you always get what you pay for. Another thing: Why didn't KRH, since he's so qualified and ambitious, apply for the Central, or Lee, or Jasper, or heck even LCM openings? I tell you why, because his resume` is waffer thin. You'd think, somebody that wants to be a head coach so badly would apply any and everywhere there's an opening. Can't do that when you only call 2 plays in an 9 game season...... See y'all in 2011..... The good news is that now you can devote more time to Barbers Hill Football ;D I'll go ahead and hook you up with some season passes this year, but you have to spring for your nachos :-*

Thanks for the updates!!!! I wonder why we are playing in a 3A Tour though ??? I guess its better than nothing and La Grange has a good program any state ranked teams in this one? -
I read this score and had to do a double take
-
Nope atleast not in the top 20! you would think with the beat down they gave Magnolia they must be good unless Magnolia had some players out or something.
-
Well lets here whatcha think! Manor beat a Magnolia team by 20 PTS! Magnolia played in #9 Wilis district and only lost by 3 points twice to the #9 team in the state. Don't know much about Manor ,but in the first round they had an impressive win indeed!

From the Baytown Sun the situation in District 19-4A, where Barbers Hill ended up in a three-way tie for the championship with Kingwood Park and C.E. King. Those three schools will stage a two-day playoff this weekend at Dayton High School to determine playoff seeding. C.E. King drew a bye in the three-team tournament, so Barbers Hill, 21-7, will play Kingwood Park at 6 p.m. Friday. The loser of that game will get the third-place seed and meet Beaumont Ozen in bidistrict next week. The winner advances to play C.E. King at 2 p.m. Saturday for the first-place seed, with the winner meeting 20-4A’s fourth-place team, Little Cypress-Mauriceville in bidistrict while the loser plays Livingston. “Obviously, you would have liked to have had this worked out in the regular season and not have to play the extra game,†Barbers Hill coach John Chancellor said. “It’s going to be an advantage to the Beaumont-area (20-4A) teams waiting for us to finish. “On the other hand, it gives you a shot to finish first for the district seeding.†After three months of regular season play, naturally, the Lady Eagles could have used a break before opening the playoffs early next week. “You want to play hard and you want to win,†Chancellor said, “but you’re really concerned about injuries and how it’ll affect you on Tuesday’s game.†-
