Broncs ready for Bay City opener By Jerry Michalsky Contributor Published August 25, 2008 DAYTON — Rain forced school officials to push back Thursday’s scheduled scrimmage between Dayton and Lumberton to a Saturday morning kickoff. Even though it was hot and the sun was out Saturday, it probably looked to the Raiders like it was still raining as Dayton showed why they are state ranked. The Broncos rained down a 41-7 beating on Lumberton. “We played pretty good on the defensive side,†Dayton head coach Jerry Stewart said. “We need to watch the film and make some adjustments, but I thought we played pretty well defensively.†It was Lumberton’s Raiders who gave the Broncos their only district loss last year with an 8-7 victory in Lumberton. That would be the last loss for Dayton before putting together a 10-game winning streak that extended to the state semifinals and a loss to eventual state champ Lake Travis. Cody Green and A.J. Dugat showed Saturday why they are one of the most potent quarterback-receiver combos in the state, and they did it in only a half of football. The two hooked up for two scores and 179 yards in receptions. The only blemish for the first-team offense was on its opening possession, a three-and-out. The Dayton defense then recorded the first of seven sacks to force the Raiders to punt the ball back to the Broncos. Dayton scored on its next five possessions. “I thought offensively we played pretty well,†said Stewart. “Cody and A.J. looked like they were in mid-season form today. “We wanted to get all of our kids on tape today and we accomplished what we wanted, too.†Green ran 61 yards on the next play after the punt to give Dayton a 7-0 lead. On the next series, Green and Dugat connected for 43 yards down to the Lumberton 15-yard line and then two plays later the duo connected on a 12-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0. Evan Brown recovered a fumble on the first Raider offensive play and Dayton was in business again. On the next play it was the Green-to-Dugat combo hitting from 36 yards out and another score. Lumberton followed with its only significant drive of the day and marched 70 yards for a score. The Broncos quickly answered as Green hit Payton Ploch from 34 yards out with 9:22 left in the second quarter. Green hit Dugat for a 40-yard pass play down to the Lumberton three-yard line. From there, Green tossed to Terry Asson to make it 35-7. The scoring ended late in the third quarter as Zach Crowder hit Ploch from 65 yards out for the final score of the game. The Broncos open the season at home Friday against Bay City. “They have a rich tradition of winning down there,†Stewart said. “They have a new coach and I am sure they will come here well prepared.†Bay City welcomes back 11 starters from last year with eight of them on the defensive side of the ball. Leading the charge will be linebacker Iris Norris, all-district a season ago with 102 tackles.

PN-G At Barbers Hill Week 0 Predictions?

The Lobos are going to be a handfull for anyteam this year and I hope BH can make it a game. The visitor side a BH will be packed ,so I would suggest all the PNG fans to leave early so you are not leaning on a fence all night. SHould be a great 1st game with a playoff type atmosphere. Both teams have holes to fill! Win or loose it will still be a pleasure to watch these two fine programs play! -

Worst Weather Games..Let's Hear it!!
BHFAN replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The worst one that I have attended was a play off game in 2000 or 2001. It Was BH against Orangefield in the bi district round of the playoffs and the location was Bridge City. I think the game time temperature was around 30 degrees with about a 20 MPH wind from the north If that wasn't bad enough it began to sleet/rain mix at half time! I was not dressed for this weather and froze my butt off the entire game!! I felt worse for the Orangefield fans and players as the final score was 55-0 BH (I think) Any Orangefield folks remimber or attend this game!! -

If the game was in Beaumont I would lean more to believing the Brook could pull it off, but since it in NS I thing the stangs continue their district undeafeted march -

Keeping this up on the page we are a week away ;D -
Yes thats the one! Thank God he's a Sophmore ;D It's nice to know that he will be coming back! I thought he looked really good and now knowing he's a Sophmore he did outstanding! He has enough speed to get around the end and he also looks for the holes up the middle instead of just running down hill also had some power. I think this kid is going to be fun to watch in the games ahead and beyond!

PN-G At Barbers Hill Week 0 Predictions?

Ok lets get this ball rolling ;D I dont think PNG is going to handle anyone this year just as the Eagles are not going to handle anyone this year (Except maybe the 2 1st year teams in district). Anyone outside of the Southeast super district knows that all of these teams are highly touted and have fanatic fans, but after the smoke clears you find they are just ordinary teams. True they beat this pathetic district that we are in (Will be better in years to come), but after that they get beat pretty soundly or handled if you will! This is not a team that BH cannot beat and I hope that BH does not fall into the mind set that the rest of our prideless district falls too (Except Dayton). BH has a long a proud tradition just like PNG and although ya may win at Eagle Stadium it will not be becuase the Eagles didn't try or are scared of the big bad PNG ;D It will be because we were out coached and out hustled! ahhhhhhhh that feels better ;D PNG this was not a slap at your tradition or school because we know about your legacy and it is AWESOME! I just think BH falls into a catagorey of the ditrict that we are in, but just like Dayton we can compete and will become more competitve as we get more and more exsperiance at the 4A level. -
I would think this happens at every school and as in life! This is a common theme that most will find throught out their school and work careers. Its not what ya know its who ya know ;D It's not the case all of the time ,but it does happen more than most would like.

I hate to say that you are right but you are ;D There is more folks trying to make a name for their selfs in the community than watching the darn game!!!! PNG will not have more fans that BH! First game of the year at home this place will be PACKED!! After the 2 but whoopens that BH and PNG took from 3A's tonight I can't see either of teams being very dominate for game 1 -
Just got back and got to see ETBU at the game That was about the only high point :'( The entire scrimmage was a controlled one and Cleveland came out strong taking it to the Eagles 4-1. Now before anyone jusmps to conclusions about this years team I don't think BH has ever won a scrimmage as the BH coaches truly treat this as practice shuffling people in and out. Cleveland only had about 5 extra guys so what we saw is pretty much what we got. Clevleand has some good size and if they can stay focused might do well this year. I remember when we played them they got more penalty flags than any team that I have ever seen. Bright points for BH. 1.) Carmona and his back up looked pretty good. both scrambled well and threw well. 2.) New running back looks promissing. Anyone know what class he is? 3.) Held Cleveland on one of the drives. 4.) O-line looked good most of the game untill the blitz blew them up at the end in scoring position. Not so Bright Points for BH. 1.) Defense got run on from every angle 2.) Secondary got burned 3.) Same old offense NO FLASH (I'm hoping this was due to the scrimmage) At the end this was a typical BH scrimmage and almost impossible to tell when the 1st 2nd or 3rd string was in. The kids looked good the defense looks a little behind the offense ,but I'm sure the coaches will have the wrinkles ironed out before the first game. Going from 3A to 5A next week against Pasedena Memorial! Good luck guys and keep working hard we are all behind you!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah I forgot about GP Thanks! I remember that yall made an adjustment it definetly worked!!! Oh by the way someone asked about stand size. There is know way that our visitor side will hold the Indians fan base!! I dorve by the field the other day and see that they added some more stands, but it will not be enough IMHO. BH is going to have to bite the bullet and expand the stands on the visitor side! -

PN-G At Barbers Hill Week 0 Predictions?
BHFAN replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Ok instead of going of Pride to guess a score lets compair the teams PNG Returns 7 players from last years team 6 on Offense that averaged 21 points last year and 1 on Defense that gave up 16. Common opponent Crosby which PNG lost 7-0 in game 2 of the year. BH Returns 11 players from last years team 6 on offense that averaged 31 points last year and 5 on defense that gave up 25. Common opponent Crosby which BH lost 48-14 in game 8 of the year. BH will be much improved this year after a rebuilding year last year and returns a lot of players. PNG's offense should be better this year ,but will need alot of folks to step up on D as they only have 1 returning starter! You can argue the numbers by strength of schedule which PNG did have a stronger schedule that BH last year. I still think this will be a competitve game with PNG still to be favored, but I do thing BH can win! Whatever the outcome I can't wait to see some football. -
