BH Sports write up Despite a gallant second half effort, Barbers Hill fell short in their attempt to reach the Class 4A regional tournament by losing to Dickinson 63-57. BH ends its first season in Class 4A with a 27-7 record. The Eagles will miss four seniors who have played at the varsity level during either their freshmen or sophomore year. Samantha Hardin, Kassi Sylvia, Traci Sandel and Sarah Daniels all battled to the end against a very skilled Dickison squad. Perhaps tonight's game was won in the first half. It came down to a matter of execution. Dickinson applied a strong man pressure creating several BH turnovers. The Lady Gators then converted them into fastbreak points. Meanwhile, Barbers Hill had a difficult time finishing their drives to the basket. Sometimes they missed close range shots. Or BH was able to draw the foul but missed from the charity stripe. The Eagles connected on only 1 of 9 second quarter freethrow attempts. Those efforts had Barbers Hill staring at a 16 point deficit as the second quarter raced to an end. Traci Sandel though gave the BH fans a bit of hope when she connected on a 3 pointer before the horn sounded to end the period. Dickinson lead 35-22 as both teams headed for the locker room. Most of the third period had Dickinson maintaining their 13 point advantage. With just over 4 minutes remaining, the Lady Gators lead 43-30. With 3:07 on the clock, BH was down 47-34. Then Paris Carter made a freethrow to cut the lead to 12. Barbers Hill made a defensive stop in which Sandel convert on the offensive end to make the score 47-37. With under a minute in the period, BH pushed the ball down the floor after a Dickinson turnover. Samantha Hardin quickly found Kassi Sylvia near the basket and the deficit was trimmed to eight. A Dickinson field goal end the third quarter with the Lady Gators leading 49-39. In the fourth quarter, Barbers Hill began one final surge to over take Dickinson. The Lady Gators had a 12 lead with six minutes remaining in the game. Sandel then scored moving the deficit back to 10. Moments later, Hardin connected from the left side of the arc making the score 53-46. Then Sylvia grabbed an offensive rebound and fed Hardin near the top of the key. Samatha connected once again and the Eagles were only down by 4, 53-49. The Lady Gators though would not allow the Eagles to get any closer. Dickinson converted on a pair of freethrows and a put back off an offensive rebound to lead 57-49. Barbers Hill managed to get back to within 4 at 59-55 but the Eagles were unable to score again until Sylvia hit a jumper just before the final buzzer.

BH will have thier hands full Wednesday with the Gators! These two faced off earlier in the year (Nov. 10th, 2nd game) and the Eagles lost that game 63-53. Both teams have played alot of ball since then, so its up to who has improved the most since November. Good luck Eagles Play Hard, Play Smart.

Info. from the BH sports report. Barbers Hill 72 Rosenberg Terry 60 Barbers Hill used 3 strong scoring quarters to race past Rosenberg Terry 72-60 in a bi-district game played at Pearland High School. The Eagles will play the winner between Dickinson and Beaumont Central. BH is now 27-6 on the year. Barbers Hill came out pressing the Lady Rangers and grabbed a 19-12 first quarter lead. Terry responded quickly in the second period trimming the lead to 19-18. The Eagles responded with a couple of baskets but Terry would answer to cut the lead back to 1 or forge a tie. After Terry tied the game at 30, BH scored right before the quarter ended for 2 point half time lead. The Eagles then took control of the game in the 3rd quarter. Midway through the period, Barbers Hill used their pressure defense to score 7 unanswered points and grab a 10 point advantage. Moments later, the quarter ended with BH still holding the 10 point lead at 51-41. Terry would get no closer. Barbers Hill will take on Rosenberg Terry. Terry defeated Santa Fe 51-39. The game will be Friday 6:00 at Pearland HS. BH is the home team.

Barbers Hill will take on the winner between third place in 23-4A and the runner-up of 24-4A. 23-4A appears to be Santa Fe who has lost 3 in a row. 24-4A appears to be Terry whose only losses in district were to 27-5 Lamar Consolidated and only by 4 points each time. This will probally come back to me but, I think BH handles Crosby this go around. Last time in went into OT and BH came out on top, but it seems BH is getting stronger while Crosby has struggled the last two games. Either way it should be a good one!!!
