Barbers Hill takes District 21-4A Title
BHFAN replied to bh146's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Congrats to the Girls!!!!! -
No I don't thnik it is tough district I also don't think it is the weakest in the state either. 22 4A is no giant either it is competitive in most years ,but on a state level it falls into the "weak" catagory. Also the district being weak doesn't mean that a team in the district can't be strong, BH IMHO can compete with 22 4A. I didn't say kill 22 4A I just said compete 8)
-
????? Are you refering to an easy first round draw? Because there are no bye weeks!
-
These teams could very possible meet in Round 1! you never know 8)
-
I still can't beleive how well these boys are doing in 4A. At the beginingo fthe year I thought with the talent we had coming back that we could crack the top three and then probally bow out in round one of the playoffs. Now I think these Eagles are very likly to go undefeated and compete in our region!!! Keep on rolling Eagles!!!!

BHFAN replied to bronco1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This will be Dayton's tooughest test, but I still think Dayton will win this district and come out with the win!!! I see the game being close and Dayton pulling away at the end! Dayton by 14!!! -
Yes!!! I new we could get some Smiley votes. There are some die hard BH haters out thier folks 4 so far
-
I know, I know your thinking good lord do you need a poll for this?? I figured I could atleast give smiley some votes from the BH Haters seriosly though got to have a topic up this week for BH to talk about!! Smiley beat Huffman this week and gave New Caney troubles the week before. Smiley I'm sure has some speed and kids that can play they just got to find some coaching toget that program out of the gutter. BH should go nuts this week just play safe and injury free ,so we can save some for the playoffs!!
-
If your team doesn't make the playoffs......

If BH don't or when they drop out I try to follow just about any local team!! I'm always looking for the double headers however, so I can get two for one -

W. Brook gallops past Ganders, 40-28 By Doyle Barlow Baytown Sun Published October 14, 2006 On a night of big plays and big miscues, it was West Brook which had the edge in the former, as the Bruins came away with a 40-28 victory over Lee in a battle for a share of first place in District 21-5A. West Brook’s Albert Williams served notice on what kind of a night it was going to be on the second play from scrimmage, as the Bruin tailback went up the middle, shook off two REL tacklers and raced 76 yards for a 6-0 lead with the game less than 30 seconds old. But Williams was just getting warmed up. On his next carry he took an option pitch 83 yards for a score, and the fourth time he touched it, he went 72 yards to the REL 6 which set up another touchdown. In the first half, alone, Williams had 10 carries for 278 yards as the Bruins built a 27-7 lead at intermission. “Three big plays in that first half killed us,†REL defensive coordinator Mark Crooms said. “For some reason we weren’t ready to play in the first half, and I’ll take the blame for that.†Lee’s only points in the first half was a six-yard touchdown pass from Octavio Torres to Michael Mahan. “We didn’t play well the first half,†REL head coach Dick Olin said. “We didn’t tackle well and our kickoff coverage wasn’t very good. I thought the kids did a good job of fighting back and the defense was able to come up with some turnovers.†It took a mistake by the Bruins to allow the Ganders to start creeping back into the contest. West Brook appeared ready to slam the door on REL when Michael Williams picked off an Octavio Torres pass and returned it all the way to the REL 3-yard line. But on the next play, Bruin quarterback Joe Chaisson made a bad pitch on an option and the Ganders’ Jesse Luna scooped up the loose pigskin and raced 79 yards for a TD to cut the deficit to 27-14. REL had a chance to cut even farther into the visitors’ lead, when the Ganders got the ball right back after a great play by David Carr. Carr knocked the ball loose from Christan Michael and then fell on it himself to give the Ganders the ball at the 35-yard line. REL quickly marched to the WB 39 but turned the ball over on downs. The Bruins quickly answered, with Chaisson hooking up with James Banks from 18 yards out to make the score 33-14 with 50 seconds left in the third quarter. The Ganders answered with a 57-yard march which took only a couple of minutes. Jarvis Moore, who finished with 143 yards on 17 carries, capped the march with a 4-yard run up the gut. Desarien Cartwright’s two-point run made the score, 33-22. Things got even tighter moments later, when REL’s Thomas Bates jarred the ball loose from Banks with the Ganders recovering at the 41-yard line. This time it took REL only one play to score, as Moore found daylight up the middle before outracing the Bruin secondary to paydirt. After a failed two-point attempt, REL trailed 33-28. Then came the key drive of the night, as West Brook marched 70 yards for the clinching score. Twice the Bruins were able to convert on third-and long to keep the drive alive. On third-and-9, Chaisson hit Banks for 14 yards and a first down. Then moments later, facing third-and-177 from the REL 48, Chaisson hit Jeremy Ford for 33 yards to the Gander 15. The pass was underthrown, but Lee’s Rashad Mohammed, who was in coverage, slipped down allowing Ford to make the catch. Chaisson capped the march with a one-yard sneak on fourth down with 4:12 remaining. “We had our chances to put them away and didn’t do it,†West Brook coach Craig Stump said. “A good football team is not going to go away.†The win dropped REL to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in 21-5A, while West Brook improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the district. The Ganders will return to action next Friday at Port Arthur Memorial. Memorial will play at Kingwood tonight. -
Dayton drubs Vidor, 42-7 By Jerry Michalsky Baytown Sun Published October 14, 2006 Dayton easily won its third straight district game Friday night with a 42-7 romp over Vidor at Pirate stadium. In three district games, the Broncos have outscored Lumberton, Ozen and Vidor by a margin of 145-13. On Friday night, Dayton jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and then coasted in the second half. Michael Dugat and Cody Green lead the Broncos offensively as Dayton rolled up 325 yards of total offense. Dugat scored four times while rushing for 74 yards on 11 carries. The senior running back also added six catches for 70 yards. For Green it was his coming out party as the sophomore quarterback completed a sizzling 21 of 26 passes for 163 yards while adding a touchdown on the ground. It was though another Dugat who would set the Broncos up for their first score of the night as A. J. Dugat returned a Pirate punt 27 yards to set Dayton up at the Vidor 19-yard line. Three plays later it was Michael Dugat scoring from three yards and a quick 7-0 lead just three minutes into the game. With no time remaining in the first quarter it was Dugat scoring again, this time from six yards out and a 13-0 lead. Vidor then did something very unusual on their next possession. Facing a 4th and four from their own 26-yard line the Pirates for some reason did not punt. Instead quarterback Roman Franklin tried to get the first down on a quarterback sneak. Franklin was stopped for no gain giving the Broncos great field position once again. Green then scored from 12-yards out on a quarterback keeper two plays later, then hit David Howard for the two-point conversion and a 21-0 lead with 10:17 remaining in the first half of play. Dayton (4-2 3-0), then marched 56 yards on eight plays for their fourth touchdown of the night with Dugat going in from 10 yards out. The Broncos then used some trickery late in the first half of play to get on the board again. Green pitched to John Gable who flicked a half back pass to Howard for a three-yard touchdown pass. Vidor (2-4 1-2) would finally get on the board early in the fourth quarter as Franklin hit Blake Walker for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 9:51 remaining in the contest. Dugat then crossed the goal line for the fourth time of the night on a five-yard run capping a 60-yard six-play Bronco drive. The Bronco defense forced three turnovers and held Vidor to 156 yards of total offense. Anthony Williams picked off a Franklin pass for Dayton. Dayton will return home next week for another big district contest against Little-Cypress Mauriceville who has a 2-1 record in district.

Eagles win 6th straight By Mike Finley Baytown Sun Published October 14, 2006 What Mason Fisher does not bring to the Barbers Hill Eagles, certainly it is a lot, then the Patton twins — Blake and Todd — certainly do. That’s the way it was here Friday night as the Eagles had little trouble dispatching New Caney for the third District 21-4A victory of the season, a 42-14 win over those other Eagles. Fisher was the man of the hour as it played out. He is a good football player, one who has to be on the field and close to the football on every play. Matter of fact, if he’s not close to the football, then the Pattons are. It’s written into the fabric that is Don Price’s team. Against New Caney, who came into the contest with a 2-0 district record, Fisher scored just one touchdown, but his presence was evident. As for the Pattons, quarterback Blake was15 for 26 passing for 217 yards, and three touchdowns as the Eagles soared to a perfect 6-0 on the season. Todd rushed for 82 yards on 8 carries, while Blake had 21 carries for 60 yards. Nick Coggin had three catches for 41 yards as Barbers Hill was penalized just once for five yards. Barbers Hill scored on the first play from scrimmage as Blake Patton hit Coggin for 39 yards and the score. The play came with 11:40 left in the first quarter, and also came on Barbers Hill’s first play following a fumble recovery. New Caney was not going to be that easy. The visitors came back to tie the game at 7 as C.J. Dunlap went 6 yards to cap a 73-yard drive. Quarterback Phillip Welch had two runs — both for 24 yards — to set up the score. Brandon Beck kicked the extra point. Barbers Hill came back to go ahead with a 71-yard, 10-play masterpiece capped by Michael Davis’ 25-yard touchdown reception. Coggin’s kick for the extra point was no good, 13-7. Barbers Hill went up two touchdowns in the second quarter as Todd Patton went 29 yards and brother Blake ran over the two bonus points for a two-touchdown lead. It was that way at the half, 21-7. New Caney fought to get back into the game in the third quarter. The visitors scored as quarterback Welch scampered 9 yards and Beck kicked the extra point. It was all Barbers Hill after that. That man Fisher intercepted a pass at the 43-yard line and returned it to the New Caney 12. Blake Patton went the 12 yards for the touchdown with 6:12 left in the third quarter. Coggin was again good on the extra point. Bake Patton raced five yards for Barbers Hill’s next touchdown with 2:23 left in the third quarter to climax a 62-yard drive that took 10 plays to complete. It was an all Patton drive as Blake touched the ball on nine plays and Todd had the other. Nothing to it. The Eagles wrapped up the scoring with a 28-yard pass from Blake Patton to Fisher with 8:01 left n the game. Again, Coggin was true on the extra point. “I thought we played pretty well,†Price said. “We won and that’s the reason we go out there every Friday night. New Caney was good, but we won. That what you are supposed to do.†Next week, Barbers Hill travels into Houston to play Smiley. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. -

Friday, October 13 Barbers Hill Victorious Over New Caney, 42-14 NIck Coggin had 4 catches and a TD Barbers Hill used an opportunistic offense and an aggressive defense to defeated the New Caney Eagles by a score of 42-14. BH had touchdowns in every quarter in acheiving their highest scoring output of the year. The win keeps Barbers Hill undefeated for the year at 6-0 and they are now 3-0 in District 21-AAAA. BH will travel to Smiley next Friday. Smiley defeated Huffman-Hargrave 10-7. Barbers Hill defense made an immediate impact on the opening kickoff causing a fumble and recovering at the New Caney 39 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, QB Blake Patton tossed a touchdown pass to Nick Coggin. The extra point by Coggin was good and the Eagles possessed a quick 7-0 lead. The lead was short lived as New Caney went on a long scoring drive after the kickoff. New Caney finished off the drive with a 5 yard run. That made the score 7-7 with 9:31 still left in the first quarter. BH answered New Caney's TD with one of their own. Mixing up some short passes and runs, the Eagles moved the ball to New Caney's 25 yard line. Patton then found Michael Davis streaking down the right sideline for a 25 yard TD. Coggin slipped on the PAT try leaving the score at 13-7. In the second quarter, the offense used one of Mason Fisher's 3 interceptions to increase the BH lead. With the ball at the New Caney 29, Todd Patton got a huge opening from the offensive line and he scooted 29 yards for another BH touchdown. Blake Patton then converted the 2 point PAT as Barbers Hill went into the half with a 21-7 lead. The third period opened just the opposite of the beginning of the game. New Caney recovered an Eagle fumble at the BH 30 yard line. New Caney moved the ball to the Eagle 11 where New Caney's QB ran it to cut the lead to 21-14. That would end the scoring for the visitors. The Eagles extended their lead in the 3rd period by tacking on 14 more points. Fisher once again put the Eagles in good field position with his second interception. Quarterback Blake Patton would then run behind the left side of the offensive line for an 11 yard touchdown. The PAT made the score 28-14. Blake Patton minutes later would score his second touchdown of the night with a 4 yard run. Coggin's kick made the score 35-14. The final touchdown came fittingly from Mason Fisher. Patton connected with Fisher around the New Caney 12 yard line. Fisher shook off 2 defenders and raced into the endzone for a 28 yard touchdown. Coggin added the final point of the night with his kick. -

Great to meet up with you Gringo!! Your son looked good tonight i'm sure not his best night, but he's young, goodluck to him and New Caney. We did leave the 1st team in later than I would have liked. I would have hated to see an injury late for no reason. Coaches did do a heck of alot better play calling tonight Kudos to the coaches. Mason is not the answer to everything, but he is two good to not throw to him several times a game. We threw to Mason twice in the Crosby game & Jasper game and both games were horrible to watch because we couldn't uopen up the run. we opened up against New Caney and Bellville and man it looks alot smoother!! -
