UFC offers FEDOR BIGGEST DEAL EVER, SO LETS SEE IF HE MANS UP
venom33 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Everyone seems to be looking at the surface numbers and saying: "Wow.....6 fights 30 million? That's 5 million a fight! Fedor's an IDIOT not to take this! Vadim is dumb!" What you guys are missing are the operative terms of Zuffa contract, particularly the high end ones, are often not the headline number of fights and dollar amount, by a long shot. They're the OTHER terms - like voidability in the event of a loss, perpetual image rights forfeiture, the amount of time the contract lasts, therefore how long they can "freeze out" for, exclusivity, etc. The information leaked regarding Fedor's contract did not include any of the information. Is the contract voidable in the event of a loss? Can Fedor void it if he wins 3 straight and has better options? Does it last for 5 years so he can be frozen out for the rest of his competitive life if they get in a dispute? Is his image and name become property of Zuffa for eternity? Nobody is commenting or asking. Look at the list of high-profile/salary fighters who have had problems with Zuffa once they've had a contract- Tito Ortiz (freeze out) B.J. Penn (exclusivity) Fabricio Werdum (voidability) Jon Fitch/ Other AKA fighters(likeness rights forfeiture) Randy Couture (freeze out, exclusivity, lack of hard bonus money) Chuck Liddell/John Hackleman (potential freeze out) Roger Huerta (freeze out, lack of payment for marketing support) Andrei Arlovski (freeze out) Surprise Surprise. None of the disputes rise out of the hard number of fights and dollar per fight. They all ended up with disputes with Zuffa because of the other terms found in their contract. Zuffa has a documented history of problems with high-profile fighters, all over the other terms in their contracts. So its naive to just look at "6 fights, $30 million" and say "Great contract Fedor, Take it!!!!!" It's likely it includes some or all of the clauses that ran all the above fighters into trouble. And as the world's greatest fighter, maybe Fedor doesn't want to be subject to a Zuffa freeze out or lose the ability to license his own image to whomever he wants. -
Fedor is the most legitimate HW Champion in the sport - by every historically established standard of measure. Because what are all the ways to define a legitimate Championship and Champion? If it's by legitimacy of historical lineage - Fedor is actually both the linear UFC and Pride HW Champion. So there is not even possibly a more legitimate Champion by lineage than Fedor. If it's by having won a legitimate Championship-qualifying fight - well, Fedor did just that by beating the universally ranked #1 in the world (as well as the Linear Champ) at the time in Nog. (And additionally - the historical standard for defining a new legitimate World Championship is by having the #1 in the world face the #2. And when Fedor beat Nog in the rematch, they were both the undisputed top 2 on every single ranking out there - without exception.) Or if the true World Champion is defined by who is the universally ranked #1 in the world - then obviously, the fact is that it's Fedor. Or if the Champ is just simply who is considered the consensus best in the world - the man who would be expected to straight-up beat all others - then by that standard, Fedor is the Champ as well. Because it is a fact that as of now, Fedor would be favored to beat every single other fighter in the world. So Fedor fulfills all of these historical Championship standards. And at this point, there is no possible measure or legitimately established basis by which Brock is actually already ahead of Fedor, in terms of being ranked #1 or the true HW Champ. Yes, the reality is that - in stark contrast to the more long-term knowledgeable followers of the sport (fans, pundits, and fighters alike) - the overwhelming majority of the mainstream noobs would instead automatically consider Brock, or any UFC titleholder, to already be the true champ based purely on the brand-name label alone. But it's rather ironic that in the sport of MMA, those with the "newer" perspective - with the least historical background and knowledge - will predominantly be the ones to actually write history. Or rather, re-write it. And they will be (re-)writing it based almost exclusively from the perspective of a single promotional brand - rather than from the entire span of the sport and its history

Fedor Emelianenko to address media Wednesday

apparently you. you took the time to read the article plus post. -
I THINK THIS IS IT.... HE SIGNS WITH STRIKEFORCE/M1 AND GETS TO KEEP HIS SOUL,LOL Following the cancellation of "Affliction: Trilogy" and the collapse of the entire Affliction promotion, the man widely considered to be the world's top-heavyweight, Fedor Emelianenko, is currently without an upcoming fight. And as the world waits to see where the fighters from the now-defunct Affliction promotion end up, speculation continues to mount regarding where Emelianenko will fight next. Emelianenko, himself, will address some of the speculation on Wednesday at a press conference in Anaheim, Calif. "Since the cancellation (of "Affliction: Trilogy"), there has been a great deal of speculation regarding Fedor and M-1," Emelianenko's manager, Vadim Finkelchtein, stated in a release from his company. "On Wednesday, the media and fans will be able to hear what's going on with Fedor from the man himself." Finkelchtein's company recently issued a statement that suggested now could be the time "The Last Emperor" finally makes his way to the UFC – if the world's largest MMA promotion was willing to deal with M-1's contractual demands. "Of course, it still doesn't imply we are ready to accept any conditions [the UFC] will throw at us," Finkelchtein said. "We want to talk to the UFC about having Fedor compete against some of their fighters, but only within the framework of co-promotional efforts with M-1 Global." UFC president Dana White has publicly stated that he wants to put together a fight between Emelianenko and UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, but the UFC exec has had difficulty in landing the Russian in previous negotiations. M-1's press conference announcement offered little insight into what Emelianenko will share, and a curiously worded passage left "The Last Emperor's" current contract status unclear. "Emelianenko, 30-1, is perceived by many within the industry to be a free agent and it is believed he is being courted by every major MMA promotion in the world," read the statement.

i agree, lesnar is a monster and it would be an extremely tough fight! on the other hand, fedor has been in the ring with monsters before... and you cant compare mir and fedor they are on much different levels, theres no comparison. lesnar is nowhere near fedors level,YET. fedor didnt get where he is today by not having skills and the ability to impose his will on others. you talk about fedor as if hes an unproven rookie to mma. lesnar has 5 fights under his belt, one inwhich he lost to an overrated mir. noone has tested lesnars ground game, his ability to take a leg kick, check a leg kick, take a head kick,etc,etc... we will see in the next year to year and a half. i really think carwin, crocop, and a few others on the upcoming tuf have the ability to take lesnars belt before fedor gets the opportunity. like i said, its gonna take someone who can avoid being taken down and has nice strikes. lesnar doesnt have standup defense, VERY limited striking ability, and no sub defense, but he does have strength, size, and gnp. also, youre quick to compare like opponents and predict a fight by that... kinda like when fedor beat arlovski and rodgers beat arlovski in less time to you this deminished fedors win somehow and was proof rodgers could beat fedor... i think its funny this logic is only used by a selective few when they think it makes their point. ;D i dont agree with this like opponent logic at all, but for craps and giggles lets look at herring who is a like opponent between fedor and lesnar. watch both fights, lesnar couldnt finish him, fedor almost killed him! again, i dont buy this garbage at all but ive seen this logic listed on a few other threads and thought id throw this out there. jmo

there are fighters right now in ufc's weakest division that given the opportunity will take lesnars belt from him!
-
baseball are you ok....it sounds like youre about to stroke out! simmer down, who cares if he ever signs, it wont put money in our pockets either way! look on the bright side there will be a ton of crazy fights coming up and by fedor not signing lesnar gets to keep his belt a little while longer! ;D

since when were stats your thing? youve always gone off of pure emotion and opinion... its good to see youre turning over a new leaf!
-
all bs aside, if dana has his pick of affliction fighters do you guys understand the fights we could possibly see??? this might change every ppv card for the next year!
-
i think fedor goes to dream and fights overeem and barnett who are better than anyone zuffa has in their hw division.
-
i think he gets ktfo before he meets fedor! again, what message is dana sending to his hw division??? you suck? you cant beat lesnar so i have to get someone else?
-
the football analogy makes no sense... noone is saying fedor needs to go down in the ufc hof, but he can go down in the MMA hof without ever fighting in the ufc. though the biggest company in MMA the ufc did not invent the sport nor is it the end-all-be-all of the sport. the ufc is a company they are not a sport, MMA is the sport.

money has ALOT to do with them coming here... you mention baseball, take a look at what happened to the "best" we had to offer during the world baseball classics. dont think that just because athletes dont compete for a US company/team theyre inferior! thats very self absorbed and egotistical of us. i know if i owned an mma company i would be content with having lesnar over the best hw of all time... : -
