After being "disqualified" in the first half why was #77 for Royal allowed back on the field in the second half??? -
The shelter is up and in full swing at the middle school... This has to be the worst decision Ive seen made in a while. These people roam the schools around the kids and there are sexual predators mixed in!!! Nothing is safe when the almighty dollar is involved!
-
This is begging for trouble!!! I dont understand why school cant be postponed until something else is figured out.
-
Heard from an insider: WOS Middle School is housing 200+ evacuees. The Red Cross has set up a shelter in the girl's gym in the Stark Building. They will be using the facilities of the school. Not a problem right? Well, school will be back in session on Wednesday. The schedules will be changed because school will be from 10-3 and classes will have to be moved around. Also, the shelter is for Orange residents only. They are wanting to set it up in order to get the WOS students back in school. Bridge City citizens were actually turned away. From what I hear, there is no shelter for BC residents. What kind of risks will this cause? You don't know any backgrounds of the people there and they will be around the students. Also, what kind of safety is it for the school. Will they be allowed to roam around at night? We have all heard horror stories of events that take place in shelters. Is it really something to have our students around? Just trying to get some opinions on this touchy one!! :-\

i think you misunderstood me, i was saying everyone ive spoken with including myself is running into the problem of exceeding the income maximums. i thought being this was considered an "emergency" situation that the income maximums would be waived and the only requirements would be if you lived in a county that was considered to be a disaster.
-
the one time thing is cool, the problem everyone around us is running into is income....
-
That is correct!! I know several people who have recieved them. Then please share the magic potion!!!! Weve spoken with three different offices who are giving three different stories!!!!
-
Not accurate at all... They are very much checking your income and people are getting turned down right and left!!!! It appears the "emergency" part is for those who already milk the state to get more put on their card!!!
-
fema is now covering your hotel rooms!!!
-
has yone heard if they are gonna cover hotel rooms???
-
in what way???

Hawk, I do think that is a bit harsh in this situation. Most of us grew up in this area. Yes, we choose to live here but we don't deserve it because we choose to live here. Not all people are homeowners. Renters do not have the insurance luxuries as do the homeowners. I don't think anyone is just asking for "free money." Nothing is ever free. We may be given assistance but the price is destruction and devastation. We are only asking for FEMA help to cover hotels. We are fine with no other assistance, just want them to do their job. They are a Federal EMERGENCY agency. We also do ALL pay taxes. Be thankful it appears that the HJ area had minimal damage. We are from BC where there are dead bodies found floating. My mother and granfather's homes are up to rooves with water as most people there. We have structural damage as well as emotional damage. I don't think that asking a little positivity right now is a lot to ask of everyone spared.

just talked to fema again and got a rude azz lady, she said that there would be no assistance until we tell them what the damage was! she also told me "look at houston, they said there wouldnt be electricity and now they have it!" i proceeded to tell her "we have more than broken window where im from!" i got nowhere with her and eventually got hung up on. there is no help...
-
fema provided assistance for gustav... it seems that if you live in texas youre s.o.l., but if youre in louisiana youre good to go!
-
were not new orleans and it wasnt katrina! its amazing, but that really makes a difference...

THE LATEST AT 5:47p: At a news conference late Saturday afternoon, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett praised the work of rescue and relief workers in the hours after Hurricane Ike struck a powerful blow along the Texas Gulf Coast. He said FEMA has a plan in place to assist residents who have lost their homes. "We're not out of this yet, but we're certainly on the path," Emmett said, adding that the cooperation between local, state and federal agencies is "a model for the entire country." Houston Mayor Ed White said residents should continue to boil water for drinking purposes until further notice. He said work is under way to restore pressure to the city's water supply and to ensure its safety and integrity. He also said work continues to restore power to nearly 3 million customers who are blacked out. FEMA spokesman Dick Gifford said the emergency declaration signed by the president means that storm victims can apply for financial assistance for temporary housing. Homeowners are eligible to receive funding for repairs not covered by insurance. Other funds are available to cover personal property, transportation, and medical expenses. Gifford said there are only two ways to apply for assistance, at the FEMA Web site and by a toll-free telephone number. • LINK: Apply for FEMA assistance online • PHONE: Call 800-621-3362 to apply for FEMA assistance by telephone [/quote excuse my ignorance, but will the assistance be like lit was for rita? is it going to help the folks who evacuated and are unable to come home? will it cover their rooms and expenses while evacuated? i know some people took advantage of fema but there are alot of evacuees that are finacially in trouble and cant return home or have nothing to return to. also, not everyone is a home owner.... -
