  1. Chad Clement has resigned as baseball coach at McNeese State University. Clement announced his resignation Thursday saying that his heart was not in coaching any more. The Lake Charles native and former Cowboy player and assistant coach was in his fourth season as head coach at McNeese. Last year he led the Cowboys to the Southland Conference title and he was named the league and the Louisiana coach of the year. He had an 82-84 overall record. The Cowboys had gotten off to a 0-4 start this season. Assistant coach Chris Fackler has been appointed the team's interim head coach for the remainder of the season according to athletic director Sonny Watkins. Clement said that he wanted to thank the university for the opportunity of coaching the Cowboys. "It has been a rewarding as well as educational experience to serve in this capacity. During my tenure at McNeese State, I am proud to have been a part of conference championship teams in 2000 and 2006 and a conference tournament championship team in 2003," he said. Watkins said that Clement's resignation came as a surprise to him. "This was not something that we suspected. He has done a fine job as the baseball coach and we are sorry to lose him," Watkins said. "We truly wish him the best."
  2. Rice lead 2-0 Top 3rd
  3. Savery likes to pitch on Sundays. He is in the line-up at 1B on Fridays and Saturdays. Its his personal preference and has been since he started playing at Rice.
  4. Chris Kelley (San Jac transfer) is starting the Vanderbilt game today at noon for Rice. Joe Savery is scheduled to pitch Sunday evening against A&M.
  5. Curse the people in my office for having surgeries!!! I'm stuck here listening to the games on the radio and following along with gametracker. I will only be able to make Saturday and Sunday. Those of you with any magic up your sleeves, see if you can get the Owl bats going.
  6. We'd better be getting Rice/Lamar tickets early.
  7. The Friday game between David Price and what should be Joe Savery could be the premier game in the tournament. Price is supposed to be the top lefthander in college ball this year. Too bad its at high noon on a Friday >
  8. I posted on another thread that this game scared me. One because the Owls struggled in the opener, and their offense has been anemic since the middle of the UGA game at the CWS last year, secondly b/c SWT (no offense) had already beaten a good OU team last weekend. Sorry to say I was right. Congrat to the Bobcats. May this fuel your confidence building run to the SLC Championship or an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
  9. Texas St. gets the Owls today at 6:30 in San Marcos. I'm a little nervous about that one.
  10. The Owls beat #9 ranked (D-2) Central Missouri State 5-0 on Saturday. It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win. Lots of upsets this weekend too.... Mercer beat Miami twice, San Diego beat Texas 2 out of 3 and Texas Southern upset Oklahoma. Glad College Baseball is finally here. Minute Maid College Classic is this weekend in Houston for those interested.
  11. Way to keep them together Coach. This was a statement game after the discipline move that was made on Davis and the others. Roc is a first year coach and is showing us what he expects from this team on and off the floor. Remember he is a local and one of us...lets not go after him with fire and pitch forks just yet.

  13. I thought he was at McNeese this season. Guess I read wrong and he is transfering there next year?
  14. Back it up ....the Big Ten..err... the colder climate schools still won't be able to compete with the Southern States in baseball. That just means more dead time between the end of the Bowl Season and the start of College Baseball.
  15. OSU wins opener 5-0 on no hitter on Thursday. [Hidden Content] Follows with DH sweep 17-4 and 9-3. BTW they are coached by former Beaumont Golden Gator Pat Casey.
  16. Did PAM retain the rights to the Lincoln fans when it closed? No one can hang with that bunch. I still remember it from when I was in school...just get them started and all you heard after a Lincoln run and an opponent timeout out was them clapping in unison chanting "We are from the Beehive" over and over. After that there is no more comparison. They also went anywhere.
  17. I graduated from LU in '99 and I don't even recognize the campus anymore.
  18. There was big concern last year about how the pitching coach "managed" the pitching staff and how it hurt them down the stretch. Can't wait for the Owls/Horns on April 17th in Houston. Texas is never short on talent, so I would not be surprised at a run to Omaha. I'd really like to see a Rice/Texas CWS Championship Series.
  19. Reminds of the other LU Cardinals. Or is it U of L?
  20. I agree definately with keeping the local players at home. Maybe with Coach Roc, who seems to be a great recruiter he can convince the local kids to stay out home, because as of now they are jumping at the chance to play elsewhere. Keena Young at BYU. A couple of WB kids left to play out of state, we even lots the kids from Central's State Semi team to Southland Schools. Keeping them home is a start to building back the "large" fan base. Large fan base = 4500 a game average attendance.
  21. Looks like Gilligan has some competition for recruiting the locals.
  22. So if they have a tourney, do they do away with all the bowls, or figure out a way to give the non-BCS schools a chance at some kind of post season?
  23. What was the word on Stump going to UNT with Todd Dodge?
  24. Strange to see basketball players in sleeves
  25. Can't wait for February 3rd. Rice vs. Central Missouri St.
