A lot of affluent whites live in 3rd ward. Don't forget about S. mcGergor with those big 2-story homes and swimming pools. I hope this guy doesn't delete my comments again
Dove... This guy has never been outside of Southeast Texas!!!! Houston is foriegn to him!
The ignorance? The talk about a high school coach (yes, he's good) and big-time players staying here, speculation on coaches like Gillespie coming to Beaumont, who should and should not be recruited, how to coach these guys on the floor, the players would be glad to see the coach leave, 50% of the fan base wants the coach gone......need I go on? That's the kind of ignorance I'm writing about on this board.....and it did not come from me. There is talent on this team, and it's developing. It would have been hard for any coach to deal with the injuries this season (Nabors, Hall (never played), Charlie Harper, and Miles. With recruits coming in, this team makes the tournament at least as a mid-level seed.
You are lost... Ignorant.. And misguided!

If there is a new coach at lamar

I will let the cat out of the bag. It will take one of two things happening for us to have a new coach next year. If Rod Strickland becomes the head coach at Depaul then Roc is gone to Kentucky. If Tony Barbee becomes the head coach at Depaul Rod Strickland will likely become his top assistant. Bottom line is Roc has realized had he stayed at Memphis with Cal he would be the head coach there now. If Strickland leaves Kentucky that will open up an assistants job and Roc will take it. If that indeed happens look for Alvin Brooks, and Rodney Terry(Current Texas assistant) to be in the running for the job. By the way.....I love the Quinn Snyder suggestion. I think he would be a home run!
Are you kidding?? Quinn Snyder??? NO NO NO NO. That guy was a disaster at Missouri. Alvin Brooks? Wasn't he a disaster at UH? Never heard of Rodney Terry. As for Snyder and Brooks, I would prefer NOT to hire someone that's already proven they can't coach. Even though I love Brooks. Man, what a point guard!! I guarantee you he could still school anyone we have on campus. I wonder if he has any eligibility left?
Rodney Terry is only one of the better assistance in the country. He has been on the radar for a head job for about three years now and I think he is reaching for something higher than LU.... Snyder is a good X's and O's coach with a young style. He is not big 12 material but would be really good in the Southland... -
Westend... All coaches start somewhere and you would be surprised at the number of college coaches out there now that have coached High School! Like I said people like you wouldn't have hire John Wooden... Thank God you are not in the decision room!

The UIL's All-Century Team for boys basketball
shorttexas1 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Stevie Jackson would have made this team if hewould not have left for his senior season. I believe Brian Boddicker should be on here for his High School contribution!!! That kid was a mianstay on a dominant team and sealed it with a State championship his senior season. -
Yeah.. McGregor and the Medical district is in 3-Ward too!!! I feel you on the Rush.. But honestly rush doesn't like anything or anybody.... But sometimes it is focused on Demos and Blacks! I personally believe in gladiator sports. I want my team to dominate and not make it close. I don't want a suprise upset. I wish the Cowboys win every game by 50. The Rockets by 100.. And all UT sports win in blowouts, and all Central HS sports win in blowouts!!! That is just me! Leave no doubt. And I have been on the other side of that situation, no it doesn't feel good, but I respect and understand and believe in it!

Tubbs: Roc is coach 'Right now'

Tubbs didn't win the three seasons he was here. Roc inherited his team and had one of the most successful seasons in years. Last two seasons have been injury plagued in case anyone has been paying attention. If you are going to BUILD A PROGRAM, you must establish consistency. The best way to do that is to find a committed coach to the school and stick with him. This is not a stepping stone job for Roc as it would be for most other coaches who MIGHT come here. Roc is committed for the long haul. A guarantee: at the very least, the team will be in the conference tournament next season since they will be playing in the Eastern Division of the conference. The keys for next season: good health, two good shooters, and two good rebounders.
Wow.........a guarantee to get to the conference tournament. Now that is huge. If he can do that let's keep him ::) Also, I hate to break it to you the three seasons you are talking bad about Tubbs were roccafortes recruiting classes not Tubbs. And that is a fact!
Roc had one decent recruiting class and after Nabors leaves he doesnt have a step up kid ready to go!!! Nabors carried this team! -
It is not less ignorant!!! It is probably the most ignorant. Talking about knowing didly is this guy.. Roc had one good season, it included a decent Junco Transfer class... Then the recruiting hasn't worked sense. That is three years of recruiting and whats left for next year will only geyt worse. That means he hasn't done successful recruiting in 3 years.... No incoming freshman will change this team enough. And even more silly is that Roc actually tried to recruit Wall, knowing he had no chance. Watse of time and money.

The two best guard oriented teams they played this year was one out of Georgia... Yates won 91-90 thanks to the skill of Joseph Young (the only true next level star on the team).. And Lamarque who hung for 3 quarters but did not have the depth! Gardner will be a decent little gaurd in the Southland, Peters will be a defensive guard in college, and that big man is really suspect. Elton Roy could grow into a fine gaurd in the Southland too!

First of all for you uneducated folks... The entire 3rd Ward in NOT a ghetto! Do a little traveling and you will see that. Second what is classy about saying, "that you are so sorry that I will stop playing hard just because we are up by so much! " Third, I don't think Yates could beat the undefeated Willowridge, Dallas Lincoln, Ozen, or Houston Milby (the weakest link) teams from this decade. But I do see that they play and entirely different ball game than those teams. If you don't see the difference you don't know basketball. Yates makes up for their lack of basket skill by constant running. All of the previous mentioned team were half court teams. Only the Lincoln team was a pressing team but it wasn't as aggressive. Yates would be similar to the Wheatly teams of that time frame... The lack of great guards on one team and a great coach is the reason Yates will win it all. No TJ Ford, Daniel Ewing, Kenny Taylor teams out their... And wise is coaching his butt off... Nothing feels worse than the mercy rule in baseball or getting whipped badly in soccer, but no we don't sit here and whine about a team of white boys beating up on the urban schools!!! And Yates has been whippin up on majority other urban or majority black schools so that argument is null and void!!!! Just like Larry Bird said and I quote, "Its a Black man's game!" Just like Hockey, Baseball, soccer, and golf are not.

Colleg is College!!! May the young men get an education... -
The entire Boutte argument was just a suggestion but I was suprised at the reaction! A Texas legend can get Texas kids, JMO! Just like they are trying it with Tod Dodge in football. hiring a coach is ALWAYS a leap in faith. If it wasn't, Charlie Wies would have been a a for sure! I think anyway it goes it will be tough for LU, but especially if a kid coach were involved. D1 Junco is not D1 NCAA>>>>

MOST DISAPPOINTING FINISH OF YOUR FAV HS TEAM???
shorttexas1 replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
2000 Central Jaguars... Lost in the third round to an Aldine Eisenhower team that they beat by twenty in the pre-season. Next game would have been Willowridge. The team was loaded.. Dominique Young, Brandon Anrews, Ronnie Davis, Henry Morris, Teddy Hall!!! Dominque was hurt for the district, they still finished tied in second place. Lost to IKE in OT, Dominiques first game back. -
Go to the rcssports website, they have one coming up!

The Lamar PA coach was decent... I give him kudos on the job he accomplished. Truth be told his division was a little down this year, but one year and 20's old makes him more qualified than Boutte? Young college coaches are mostly in their 40's... I am not saying it will be Boutte I am just saying your argument that he is not the answer has really big holes!! It is time for new blood... Let us see where it comes from!
-
I can say this... It will be hard to lure a big name to LU! Why would they come when it will be better positions out there for them? Well Mike Dean was fiered at Wagner... Want to bring him back? ;D
-
Neither could Roc with all those credentials... They don't mean a thing when you hand over the reigns... Plenty of big names and noteriety have failed and failed big... Frank Martin's name did not get those players!!! Even at Baylor, it took guys with some other background... Maybe the trick is not to shoot so high for a canidate that will not come! They have done that and failed. Players from this and the Houston area would play for Boutte before going to Tennessee Tech, La Tech, BYU, or Tulane.... Period! We have sent some of our best players to these schools... Even the Hancock, Skip Jackson, and Edward Garret went to Southland schools... They coould have been great together at Lamar!
-
After Keena didnt go to memphis he would have been right there with Boutte... Clearence Matthews, Trey McDowell, K. Hancock, etc. would have played for Boutte over playing in other small D1 schools... Last I checked no one has been offered by Duke around here!!! A smart recruiter would not try to compete with those schools... There are plenty of second teir students with great game!
