Yates 126 Sterling 61 Final
shorttexas1 replied to Djones8301's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If you have good guards, and can play in the half court you could have a chance with Yates... It is known that the refs can't call every fouls in a high school game (way too many both ways because of the skill level)! Some folks try to equate college/high school fouls to the NBA and they are too different creatures! The amateur game is much more physical! -

The Rockets picked up two 6'11' guys for a reason, I just cant see them sticking with Hayes as the starting center at 6'6" -
WOW! I think they are better right now! First of all there is a legitimate scorer on the wing instead of Battier (he hurt the entire offense)! Now there are two elite defenders on starting Ariza and then Battier off the bench fresh! The rotation of Hill, Armstrong, Scola, & and Anderson is bigger and more defensively strong. I did not like the College rotation that was there. I liked Landry alot but he and Hayes were no taller than 6'7". That was a big issue. We had no true Center on the team except for Anderson and he is a jump shooter! They are so much better right now!

You all are talking foolish... He has done some good in Houston... The only issue was Houston was not in the position to get him some help. His tems had 6'5" Power Forwards and 6'2" 2-Guards, and some had no true PG until Skip got there. He was not in the position to win and he had some great games and great years. The only reason I am glad he is gone is because he has been dead weight for 2 years now.! -

I don't know... Armstrong could start as a traditional center and shot blocker with Scola at PF, but Jefferies is making so much money and he is decent... He must start right? -
Will it be: Scola, Jefferies, Ariza, Martin, Brooks? Hayes, Scola, Ariza, Martin, Brooks? Anderson, Scola, Ariza, Martin, Brooks? When Yao gets back and pushes Scola to PF it will be nice!!! This trade helped us inside with height! Will Hill play?

This draft is deep with quality big men and they are actually big (unlike the 6'7" Landry) I like Landry but there is pelnty of opportunity in the draft and free agency. We needed a scoring two guard and now we have him!

No adjustmensts.. Hit free throws and they win at least 3 of the six losses! The issue is chemistry and offensive scheme. I like the turn I am seeing in Hamilton, Brown & Bradely are so inconsistant. The success of this team depended alot on the freshman and that is alot to put on them. Next year they will get Tristan Thomas to take James' place with plenty of good Sophmores and seniors (might be the time). Barnes needs to leave the starting line-up alone this late in the season. It should be James, Johnson, Pittman, Brown, & Bradely. If you sit Pittman then start Hamilton and have a samller team but it would be very athletic!

The Junior McClellan is a UT signee! ;) Well here is both teams starting 5... Bellaire probably has the best starting 5 in the State! But they have a young coach and short bench... Both are disastrous when it comes to playing coach Wise and Yates! To beat Yates you need good guards who are discipline enough to slow down and not play Yate’s game… Bellaire should win State but I think coaching will cost them!! Brandon Peters 6'1 Yates SIGNED W/ WESTERN KENTUCKY Joseph Young 6'2 Yates SIGNED W/ PROVIDENCE Darius Gardner 5'10 Yates SIGNED W/ S F A Alex Davis 6'7 Yates Elton Roy 6'2 Yates Michael Oyedeji 6'7 Bellaire SIGNED W/ TEXAS A&M Jamel Outler 6'3 Bellaire SIGNED W/ TEXAS TECH Kene Anyigbo 6'5 Bellaire SIGNED W/ WESTERN KENTUCKY McClellan 6'5 Bellaire verbal to UT Sebastian Douglass 6'3 Bellaire

Well that one did not work, I wanted Caron and Haywood for the Rockets, too!

Texas woke up in a BIG way today...

Yes Nebraska record is bad, but this is the same team that came within minutes of upsetting Kansas, and hasn't allowed a 90 pt scoring game this season... And has only allowed three teams to break the 80 point mark, all ranked in the top 20! They also, sport the Big 12s stingiest defense. -
So you have heard of that big time game too!!! That will be a doozy!!! I am in the house if it happens!

Best High School Basketball game??
shorttexas1 replied to UncleDrew's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Second Best... It's Destiny!! 1999 Central High School Jags #3 in a loaded district... at the end of thr regular season it was #4 Humble, #9 Kingwood and #12 Central... Willowridge had been disqualified because of Ivan McFarlin... They won State the next two years and would have given Central fits in 1999... Central met 4 of the top 15 (3 of the top 5) in this playoff run, this was the regional final. They beat #4 Humble (which had beat us twice in district), #1 Milby, #15 Dulles, and #2 Duncanville. But the Game was Central vs. Dulles and it was a doozy... Central led this game by as many as 16 when Dulles turned up the intensity!!! By the 4th quarter they took the momentum and their first lead of the game. When the buzzer struck 00:00 the game was tied... Overtime and Central came out and hit the first three buckets. But the resilient Dulles team came back to tie it up, Central looked tired and beaten and there was about 2 seconds left on the clock. The score was tied and getting ready to go into a second overtime that the Jags would surely lose. Then Skip Jackson took one step off the inbounds and launched a 3/4 court shot. I was sitting just behind the goal... Aldine campbell was loud and on fire.. The noise was almost deafening... I could see the basketball approach the rim and it looked good. I jumped up and raised my hands as the entire stadium went silent for about 3 seconds. It was disbelief! Then it just erupted... I yell, "Its destiny!" then the next week we got blized by Duncanville and Brian Boddicker!!!! It felt good in Aldine... It felt like our time... The best high school basketball game of Centrals 2 decades of existance! -
Ozen only have only 2 players that I can see that can consistantly make 3s. Frank and Sullivan.. And Sullivan is one of Ozen's bigs, so he is hardly out there. It may be possible that no other Panther had the ability to penetrate but Frank. Ozen's plan to isolate Frank at the top of the key may have backfired on them and played to our advantage. He did have a big first half but made few things happen in the second half. But I give Ozen credit. They never went away from him. I look forward to seeing Frank play at the next level. Kid is fun to watch.
Next level view wont be next year!! Doubt he qualifies for the next level!

Best High School Basketball game??

Almost all of mine came in the Aldine Campbell Gym... This one was the Academy Invitational Westchester High vs Oakhill.... #1 Carmelo Anthony (Denver) vs Hassan Adams (formally of Toronto) and Trevor Ariza (Houston) Westchester (CA) High Westchester has three players among College Basketball News’ top 100 seniors in #98 Brandon Bowman (who committed to Georgetown), #70 Brandon Heath and #19 Hassan Adams. They also have New Mexico commitment Ashanti Cook and standout junior Trevor Ariza. Westchester is College Basketball News’ #2 team in the country and they are ranked #1 by USA Today. Westchester is looking to win its first state title since 1998, when they were led by current USC players David Bluthenthal and Brandon Granville. Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill Academy News’ number two senior Carmelo Anthony, who signed with Syracuse and #10 Sani Ibrahim, who is considering the NBA draft. They also have #42 6-2 point guard Chadd Moore, who committed to Cincinnati, #75 6-1 point guard Justin Gray, who committed to Wake Forest, 6-7 small forward Antywane Robinson, (Temple), Ian Johnson (Davidson), 6-3 Eric Wilkins (Miami of Florida) and 6-5 Richard Joyce (Wake Forest). As you read Westchester had more pros on their squad and they were a public school... Hasaan matched Carmelo the entire game, even crossed him, took a bump, and hit a step back jumper for the and one!! Carmelo finished with 31 and 12... Hasaan with 36, 5 rebounds, 4 stls!! Oakhill got the win by two points.. It was geat seeing those pros and really good college players playing in a close game! -
The last Central victory was in the fall of 1999, graduating class of 2000... Perk was a freshman, with John Chambers, Mike, Tigee, and company... Central 5A squad featured a senior laden team with a (PTP sophmore just like smith) Bradndon Andrews, Teddy Hall, Dominique Young, & Ronnie Davis. Wish I was there to see it, It has been too long coming... I am talking about three overtime losses, and multiple close games, and a gang of blowouts!!! *sigh*

#1 Kansas vs. #14 Texas/KANSAS WINS 84-68!!!!
shorttexas1 replied to PhatMack19's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hamilton Dribbles into the defense or takes wildly bad shots!! I would not even give him the ball unless he was open and ready to gun! Then he tried to pass when he was at the rim and got a TO. Balbay was just throwing stuff at the rim, Pittman would not leave his toes, Mason would not shoot, Johnson was not as aggressive as usual, Lucas looked like a high schooler, Bradely was off, and everyone not named Brown and James was terrified of the double team! What was worst is that nobody rotated and made themselves available for the kick out pass when a big was doubled.... Thats X's and O's! -
I like Bosh but if we end up in the lottery we have a chance at Demarcus Cousins, Craig Brackins, Cole Aldridge, Ed Davis, Greg Monroe, Larry Sanders, Gani Lawal, Jerome Jordan, and Jarvis Vernardo are all really good. Theis draft has a dearth of Bigs. If we believe Yao is coming back, pair one of these kids with him and maybe get Caron Butler!!! I like that senario!!

ESPN has some good stuff but you have to sign up to insider(cost)!!!

Not motivational... More like X's and o's!! Coach Barnes hasn't given these kids the appropiate offensive direction. He seems lost on creating a successful offense. He is trying to run the same offense he had with DGib and Abrams in the back court... Big difference is that those kids could both shoot and Aldridge and Tucker gave them alot on the interior... It was working early on with Pittman, but now that he is playing like a wuss!! -
Jacovin plays decent defense... He is not a in your chest guy but he is more of a containment guard. Yes he can be beat off the dribble but he will try and turn a player into the defense, no he is not quick but he is smart, and he doesn't take too many chance4s!!! (Unlike Balbay & Bradely) Jai Lucas should not even see the court... That kid should be in the Southland conference. He is not good enough for Big Time D1! Doesnt have the heart and grit of his older brother!
-
You know, I watch Pittman explode off the floor for blocks, then not jump for lay-ups and dunks... He hedges hard (too hard) on guards on the screen! It is funny watching a guy take athletic breaks on OFFENSE!!! TRhat is usually when most guys give their all!
