What teams to you want to schedule next Non District?
shorttexas1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Jor the Jags... I would like a 23-4A team every year. From there Lufkin, G-Ball (we have a tradition of playing them, they won't be down forever), Hightowr, Yates, Dayton, or maybe a High Profile Central Texas team. For the Bruins, eventhoug Ilike the tradition, I think they should drop the BMT Bowl thing. Maybe play one or the other every year. They should go after Stevenville, Klien, Spring, a Fort Bend school,, Midland, or Desoto. -
Beaumont Central vs. Silsbee/ SILSBEE WINS 68-56!!!

Good to have some confidence son... Keep your head in the game and away from internet chatter!!! Only thing that matters to you is taking care of school, being successful, educated, and positive young man... In addition to competing with honor and pride in whatever you do!! Leave the internet propaganda to us old men and fans. Good second half last night, you really settled in and played good defense. Back to Kimball, they are ranked 4th in 4A even though they have taken some lumps early. They will make this tourny fun... Beat them Tigers and you will get big respect in the polls! You guys are ranked way to low in 3A! -

It is easy to say mistakes were made "on your own". But I bet if just five Silsbee Tigers were on the court, there would be no mistakes! As much praise as I gave Silsbee, do you really think I am sour? I am not hoping Memorial beats them. I am saying that I (personal opinion) believe that Memorial is the best team in the area. But you guys have enough talent to be a 5A team, enough talent to give 4A as a division hell, and enough talent to dominate 3A. Will you do that? We will see! But, this is the most talented Silsbee Tiger team I have seen since Thadeous Holden and Louis Arline days. You guys have tall guards and at least three good bigs. -

Silsbee, you guys are good enough to be a pretty strong 4A team this year!!! But Memorial got something for yall. First off I was so surprised to actually see this Silsbee team and get a look at all this height. In the past the guards hav been little guys for Silsbee but not this year. The shorttest guy in the top 8 players is probably Phil, but he is an athlete! I think I will rename him lay-up man... He can pretty much lay-up anyone in a gym. That legnth really gave Central trouble. The guard I think he was number 23/28 about 6'3", man he is better than he knows!!! I mean, I don't think the kid knows his potential. The post players are players!! Not just tall guys on the court. Silsbee has about 44 or 5 real "basketball" guys. Great looking team. On to my analysis of my Jags. They are little but scrappy. There is probably one and a half real "basketball" guys on this team... The half is #10 the outher is Sophmore Smith! The Jags have athletic players on the floor with alot of speed and endurance. The suprise is the actual depth. Probably four guards and two forwards that can really play. Let me stop now and give hats off to Rice for a well coached game against a team that truely outmatched him on a talent level. The Sophmore and the football guys looked rusty, but they will improve just like they did as this game progressed. Rice had one major issue that may have cost him a chance to pull the upset. I say it was personnel choices. # 54 would have set on side of me for the rest of the game after a 4 minute stretch in the 3rd quarter that led to a Silsbee 19 pt lead. This kid is a forward (with a weak handle) that constantly over dribbled the ball into pressure and got robbed. He probably had 5 turnovers by himself in the third quarter that sparked a 19 - 2 run. He had a few of them in the first half too. Rice finally benched him. Only to bring the kid back into the game in the critical 4 minute stretch at the end of the game, where he commited "guess what" two more turnovers. Also, number 10 was playing well but collected his 4th foul at roughly the 6:00 minute mark. With him out of the game and #54 in alone with a good guard # 14, Silsbee openned the lead again. But the kid sat until the 2:30 minute mark, when the game was already out of hand. The #14 guard gave Thomas about 6 of his blocks. The funny thing is that Rice kept telling both of the kids (#54 and #14) how to adjust the pressure but both of them acted as if they couldn't understand. Like he was talking to a brick wall!!! The Sophmore #10 #22 #43 and the football reciever had really good games... Those kids played well to be outmatched. #5 really came on in the second half with his defense and fastbreak points! -

That is why he transferred... He wanted to run point not 2-guard. However... I still have a hard time seeing Jai start. With Balbay, Brown, and Jai it makes it hard on Barnes. And I think he should move Hamilton into the starting line-up!!! So we would have Pitman James Hamilton Avery Balbay, Brown, Jai?
Hmm! I heard the same thing. It seems the alums wanted to groom Nick for the NBA. Jai is homegrown from Texas with no connections to the alums (just what was told to me).
Well if you have two top PGs with similar skill sets and one is 5'8" and the other is 6'6" who would you start? Jai showed how good he was by still collecting a starting spot. They could have easily move him to the bench as Calathis' back-up, but he kept a starting spot!

Brown has played well EXCEPT for the turnovers... He will needs to work on not being up in bad positions, he is way to smart of a player for that. I had my doubts about him playing for UT but I did not doubt his talent. He still has BIG shoes to fill to be the best from the area... Right now 6'10" Perk and 6'9" Jackson own those honors... Both have a State Championsip and a NBA title... Those guys are the best to ever come out of the area!

Second of all ;D ::) Sutherland will probably go down as a small school legend unless he tries his hand at the big school divisions in the future. Rice has alot of catching up to do on the resume, of course... THe thread just stated a fact. Outside of playing against the Jags I would like everyone to be successful and keep SETX on the map.

You made my point!!! You guys used to get your panties all bunched up when ANYONE told you all that it is a difference between small school and big school ball!!! Now all of a sudden it is OK to say that 4A playoff teams are "supposed to be" better than 3A playoff teams? Rice has had to see a REAL tough playoff slate in 4A playoffs, he is a fairly new head coach with a tenure of about 7 yrs, all in big school, he has alot of time to get better! The guy is in his mid-thirties and spent the first half of his career fairly successful in a town where most of the talent flocked to the hall of fame coach!!! I think he has done a bang-up job... Does that answer your question ZEEK?

I just had to post this!!! I know you HJ folks did not want to see this! Go Jags!

First off... I would like to say hats off to FW and district 23-4A. You guys have proven to be the better district this year and I wish you s#!+ talkers more wins in the near future!!! FW won the game and handed our butts to us, then turned around and slapped us again... And FW the fans can talk all year long about how great the district is but the kjids and coaches will prove it on the field... Like they did! FW coaches put on a clinic, I hope our staff took notes. Now to my Jags. Congrats on a great competitive season. I am proud of the kids and the coaching staff for a fine winning season and a third rfound birth... Now that I have been diplomatic here comes my thoughts... 1. We expected too much come play off time - This Jag team started the year strong but really finished on a down note. We lost our last two district games then limped into the playjoffs and did not play up to our level of play. 2. What's up with the diversity? We started off the year running two different sets. By game 4 we had five different offensive sets. This game we ran the shotgun the entire game. All year we have had our most success out of the I-formation. We have run the shot gun for the majority of the playoffs and our running game dissappeared as a result. coaches we have to use the entire playbook!!! 3. Defense... Thank you for a strong year, however, someone needs to teach the dbs how to get their heads out of the backfield and play their receiver!!!!! This was not a running qb!!! The dbs would be toe-to-toe on the reciever, then start to look at the qb (like he was going to break a big run), the reciever would fade a bit deeper then the pass would go over the defenders hand. I don't know if we couldn't adjust or we just didn't. 4. QB, great season. But son if you play on the next level you have to learn to stay in the pocket and deliver the ball. You had time to deliver the ball early in the possessions, however, you watched the rush, got happy feet and got hit for the sack. If you go get hit anyway, stay in the pocket and deliver the ball!!!!! Thanks Jags for the ride!
I'm sorry guys, I know this is a FW and BC thread, but I have to stick up for my cougars here. We've obviously seen better days, but I think all teams go through up and down periods. These past couple of years, it's just been lamarque's turn. Next year is our year to make a statement. Now, as for FW vs BC. I'm going to give BC all the props in the world because of how well they've played this year. No doubt they're a great team. However, you CANNOT judge friendswood by their record. I live in galveston county and I have seen several of their games this year. I can tell you that in those loses, they were without a couple of their main players, especially #11 (who, by the way, put up 140 yards and 2TDs on BC last year) - and a nice 60 yard run to boot - it's on youtube somewhere. Not saying #11 would have made a difference against angleton (would have helped), but definitely against santa fe. My point is this: don't rely too much on who FW and BC have played this season. By this point, both FW and BC are different teams - better in my opinion.
This guy here!

The first loss came by 6 points to a team that won a tough 5A district and just beat the last year's defending 5A champ in the playoffs.

And I promise the number one school at the beginning is rarely the number one school at the end. The rankings are fun stuff for fans and based mostly on opinion! -
Central Basketball: Coach Rice

Just because a coach doesnt correct a player in the game in front of the crowd doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. There is half time, time-outs, and practice for that. Getting substituted is part of the game. Kids need to get their emotions off of their shoulders and put it behind them!!!!!!! Anyone can step out there and play but it takes a mature person to be coached and to follow order. Authority and discipline are more key than on the spot correction. Trust me, the world is so much harder and high school sports is most kids first encounter with following & respecting leadership and instruction, other than in the class room!! -
Beaumont Central vs Huntsville Predictions
shorttexas1 replied to bruinfan2006's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Friendswood would be nice but this is Huntsville... One loss and go home... Jags come out crisp and show them what you are made of!!!! Oh we have held every opponent but one under their season average, so don't count on the meager 28 that huntsville is use to scoring... They haven't seen young Demarcus Ware (Jacoby Hale)!!! We recruited D. Ware and erased the top part of 94 and made it 44... That is why D. Ware has been tired on Sundays, he's playing on Friday nights in Maroon and Grey too!!!! ;D -

Central Basketball: Coach Rice
shorttexas1 replied to localsports's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Rice has had issues in the past staying focused because he felt that he was looked upon in an ill light because he had come from Westbrook to coach at Central. He was often distracted by that pressure. The guy has really come around in the last few years though. There is a big difference in his coaching style now than before. He has settled down and his focus in on the game. As for Gulley I hear he is having the same trouble with the Junco coach that he had with Rice. The kid is not a hard worker. That is why he was over weight much of his career. He is ultra talented but it takes some work to keep up and improve. Yeah maybe you can ask the coach to be a better motivator but it is in the kid's hand ultimately to improve himself outside of the season(the coaches are only allowed to do so much). Finally, it is an excuse not to play because of a coach, if you want to play and love the game you will play regardless... And it is CHILDISH, because in life there will be plenty bosses that you will not like but you will need to bring home the bacon. So you will work regardless. These quitting kids need to grow up because the world will leave you behind quickly. -
.....and GCM "could have" scored 34. What's your point? People tend to drop passes when they have had the snot knocked out of them a few times. I was under the impression that Central had a strong running game anyway. Give GCM some credit and let's just leave it at that. The better team on Friday night, won on Friday night.
GCM lets get one thing straight... GCM did not produce one OOOHH or AAAHHH tackle on any Jag player. Those kids obviously were turning their heads before they caught the ball trying to make the home run play... Not because they were looking for the hit... GCM is a sure handed tackling team (maybe the best) but I did not see not one head hunter on the team!!! Our recievers have missed big catches quite a bit this year but we are usually winning anyway (just like we did) but it almost cost us if you guys could actually mov the ball!!!!

Central vs. Goose Creek/Central wins 7-0/Comments
shorttexas1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hatsoff to GCM... Best tackiing team that we have seen. Those kids don't hit you hard but they make every tackle!!! Tonight #44 looked like Demarcus Ware. My God he looked crazy. He was so fast out there that he was defending the run, pass blitzing and coverig the slot!! Can you believe a BIG linebacker/ Defensive covered the slot in High school? Central could have scored big points i it wasn't for the dopped passes. Most were due to lack of concentration. They did not watch the ball into their hands before they took off!!! Three potential wide open possible touchdown passes by my count! Our D was too good for this team to really break one, but those GCM kids play with alot of heart!!! Once again... Loved the tackling GCM!
