*Ozen vs. Memorial Updates/Ozen Wins 51-35/Comments*
shorttexas1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Most teams don't play the 1-3-1 defense so it will confuse a lot of ball clubs. Willie can handle the 1 and Decarlos (when he is not being lazy) should be at the top... -
Various schemes help Central stop opposing offenses

Those Jags are built for playoff football... This is the new season and every week the season ends for some teams... Our defense will make sure that we will give our best efforts to continue the season. We have shown that when we pass 6 to 10 time is a game that we are pretty good... SAo lets do what Geogia Tech did last night! -

Unless something has changed in one year Breon is a TRUE SLASHER, usually looking for his own shot, often commits early to either get off the ball or take the drive, and once he commits to the drive he never passes it. When pressured he was super turnover prone last year. The kid is darn good but TRUE PG I would not call him. Willie iis as good as his foul trouble, and Decarlos needs court discipline. All of these issue Boutte can handle and will disguise until they play a team with a pulse. Same thing happened against the Aldine teams and Yates last year. -
Texas will be a force for a while!

After seeing the Longhorns line-up for the first two games I have two worrys. Guard depth, if you include James they have a four gaurd rotation, with Mason, Balbay, and Abrams. Either Harrison Smith or Varez Ward needs to step up and give us that one other guard off the bench! I also wory aabout averaging 16 TO in the first two gaems against scrubs... The Post game will be too strong for most opponents we play! -
Central/Madison Predictions?
shorttexas1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I hear Tommy Mason Griffin is back... We have Gulley but the starting PG and PF are still on the field so it doesn't look pretty. The Much improved Jaguars will take a few early lumps and this will be one of them. Madison in double digits. -
Question about PN-G, Central Fight
shorttexas1 replied to prepballfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This years Central team is all about defense.. That is all they know how to do... If you see a player playing to the wistle that is usually called discipline, not thuggish. The theme of Jaguar Defense is speed and intimidation. You want the receivers to start to short arm receptions, the QB not to stand and attamet the throw in pressure, the RB to began to fall before he is hit, etc. The purpose is to take away your heart. Northshore did it to Westbrook all night Friday and those kids did not begin to fight. Northshore was laying hits out of bounds, roughing up receivers, laying punishing blocks down the field, hitting outside of the field of play and just being ruthless. The Ravins were doing the same thing yesterday when I went to the Houston game. Most defensive minded teams do that... This is one of the most physical games on earth for a reason! -
The Rockets will only go as far as there best player takes them no matter who you put around him... Yao and Artest are not the Rockets best players... T-Mac is and he has to be the catalyst. I give them 20 games to get it together and learn to play as a team... Battier comes back and the defense wil be even better. Then we will have 3 good scores off the bench that can make there own offense Brooks, Landry, and Head. Barry can bury the three if he is open. The only real weakness is size off the bench... If they could find minutes for Joey Dorsey it would help the middle some and he has 6 fouls to give. The Landry, Hayes front court is a blairing weakness no matter how tough they are.

You will always see the same teams in most preseason polls at number one. NC, Duke, UCLA, UCONN, and Kansas.

Well Tech starts theier gauntlet and we finished ours. The BCS was kind putting us at 4, that was the first time i have seen it work. The game was tough from the jump... Shipley missed a sure TD pass in the first, Beasly was picked on early but played well in the second. The early forth quarter pick by Colt was a heartbreaker. I think Tech was vulnerable on the outside one-on-one but we were dinking and dunking. Then Gideon missed that pick, knew we would loose then. Last Thomas had a shot a putting a play on Crabtree but miss judged the angle, It looked as if Brown expected over the top help and did not play the ball tough. All in all we lost to a top 10 team at their home and there isa no disgrace in that!

West Brook vs. #2 North Shore Predictions?
shorttexas1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
WB has not played well since the long hiatus after Ike. It seems that the play has been lackluster. They played a game time scrimmage with the one team that pushed NS and were dominanant... But like some of the posters here say, that was practice. If the Brook plays their best i think it will make for an interesting game. However, with the recent play I can't pick them to win... We Will See!!! -
Most Important 20-4A Game of the Year

I agree with some and disagree with other parts of your post Cowboy... I do agree it was a bold move going to the wishbone... This offense maximizes the talent of the runners we have. Central has a good run blocking line but we need work on pass blocking (luckily we don't do that much). For some time now Ned has had one of the best coaching staffs in the area, with WOS, Newton, and Now WB and the Train... I have seen the Jags improve and the defensive coaching has never been an issue for Stower's staff. I think the area has nice coaches and the wealth is starting to spread, but don't count on Livingston winning this weekend! -

People seem to have a tendency to skip over the good posts from Lumberton fans and focus on the bad. Such is life on a forum. Makes it more interesting. No, I did say it was a two, should have said a few Lumberton fans that I really respect... Oh and [glow=red,2,300]I[/glow] said Lumberton is a powerhouse in this district right now and I really belive that. And to clearify I said that I have read post that says Livingston will just simply outscore Central because of the offensive woes. Livingston wasn't even in the game against Lumberton, so it is a different situation. The Central/Lumberton (defense and special teams are a big part of our success so you must count those score kinda like the Superbowl Ravens), Vidor/Lumberton games were close hard fought games. Football is largely about match-ups and I believe Nederland will pose match-up problems for Lumberton. Please tell me your rationale? -
By the power of greyskull... antother Jaguar has the power.... Good now we have five!

Most Important 20-4A Game of the Year

I love the way some of you Fans from other schools just assume that because you read or heard that a school had not made the playoffs before that That school's Team had been losers for 40 years. Please look at things before you post I agree Lumberton has never been the fav. team in this or any other district. Look at some of the records though please 8-2, 7-3, 6-4 these records have been achieved more than once and missed the playoffs. Lumberton could have went last year with 2 losses and missed the playoffs. Please remember that this district is not like some of the weak ones in the area, you could miss the playoffs every year with just 2 losses. This year is a great example a very good team will get left at home and they are taking 4 from this district!!!! I agree some Lumberton fans get on here and say very dumb things that make people want to root against us. I just ask that when you get mad at them please remember that its not the kids on the field doing this in most cases. So feel free to talk down to the dumb poster's but please leave the Team out of this and refrain from calling them losers! On the other topic I dont think we sit anyone that is not really hurt against Ned. Play the men that got you there. I do think that Vidor's Homecoming game is the biggest left on the schedule. OK this sounds good unless you actually know whats going on... Don't forget there is a team history forum on here... before last year Lumberton had 5 winning seasons, Thank you for naming 3 of the 5. 2 of of the five winning seaseons were in the modern era 3A in '90 & '91 (The only two years in 3A)... In '94 they were had a winning season but it is misleading because they were 2-3 in a five team district, so it was the panseys in non district games. In '95 they were 3 - 2 in district; they beat up on the district "Cellar Dwellars" Lincoln and Bridge City and Ned caught a whipping in '95 too (GO Train)... In 2001 they had a winning season but again went 2-3 in district... If my calcs are right Lumberton lost only 2 games in a 4A district once ('95) but it was a 5 team district not this massive 8 team district. Along the way there where numerous 0 to 3 win seasons... Now... You guys are the powerhouse Train... Running over road kill along the way that includes my Jags!!!!! It is great and I simply love the team after watching them play twice. What is there not to love about hard nosed, discipline football? Outside of two, I really have no respect for the fans of Lumberton on this site! However, I appreciate the kids that are there now and wish them success, hopefully we all complete well in the playoffs, and be positive represenitives of this district. Question? This year Central played right there with Lumberton for 3 quaters and beat the team that gave Lumberton there only lose. Now the fans are picking the team that L-Train embarrassed to beat Central! Where is the reasoning in that? -
It wouldn't be McCain because he would ensure victory without giving a direct strategy! Destroy the morale of the players because they will still be practicing at the end of the season while he is still looking for his definition of the ultimate victory... He would not trust the staff that he hired and will try to be the OC, DC, lineman, WR, RB, LB, DB, TE, and special teams coach. And he will retire or die shortly after he is hired, so there won’t be any longevity or good successor! Biden will be a slick cat with a humor twist on everything... He is the kind of coach that when the team is down he would be saying they can win and be giggling while he talks. Obama would be a smooth character that would never show any weakness, even when there was plenty... He would be diplomatic and never show favoritism... But he will be thrown into a no win situation and basically be a scape goat for everyone to blame for the down fall, i.e. Ty Willingham. (same thing will happen doing his term in office, somehow the world will spin all this bad economic time on Obama) Pailn... Pitbull with Lipstick Palin... Hockey Mom Palin... She would be mean and nasty, but everyone will deal with it because she’s pretty. No one would believe in her ability to lead though, even her friends and the Athletic Director that hired her. She would be a MAVERICK!!! She would have to prove herself, so that would push her. She is a lady so no one would blame her for all the past issues that she picked up, we would have to sympathize with her. And she would take the kids for pizza after every game, therefore lifting morale... And all the fathers will be at every practice (just to watch her), so she would have good parent involvement. I vote Palin!

Most Important 20-4A Game of the Year

Nobody is trying to take Lumberton's shine... They are strong and one of the best teams in this district, no denying that... But I still can not phantom where the arrogance comes from??? I even started a new topic after the Central game giving you guys props... But I am sorry no one on this site outside of Lumberton is going to hold that team at such a high esteem after two successful years... He!! some of us will never hold L-town in high esteem, no matter how much they win, because it wont erase 40 years of losing! Some people don't know how to handle success gracefully! I would hate to see you guys win a title... Eventhough you already talk like you have already won one... I guess it feels that way when you go from door mat to competitive!!!! Go Figure! -
Why does the Houston Chronicle exclude 20-4A from coverage? It makes it very hard to look up states and box scores, because the Beaumont Surprise web site does not have an archive of the current season. Anyone know how we could remedy this issue.... Maybe use this website to petition the Chronicle or the Surprise??? Or just this web site keeps the current years stats?

Most Important 20-4A Game of the Year
shorttexas1 replied to Bucof2010's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Wrong. If you muff it and the ball continues into the endzone on it's own, you can kneel it. Is this a change in the rule... Because it happen at a Cebtral game in 2002... I remember it vivdly! -
The weakness that Lumberton has to exploit, nobody in this district does... That is throw the ball... NOBODY except Nederland... This is a run first district and Lumberton is built to defend that.... Ned will cause them problems I believe!

Most Important 20-4A Game of the Year
shorttexas1 replied to Bucof2010's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Do you know the game? The kid touched the ball on the Kick off in the field of play, Then he ran back into the endzone to regain possession... If he would have been tackled in the endzone it would have been a safety; trherefore he had to come out the endzone. Then the next play was a fumble on a delayed handoff that I believe was a silly call to begin with. The one thing that you don't know is that Central offense has changed and it is looking better every week. They have not run the same offense since Lumberton. I will admit Lumberton is a good football team, I will even admit that their coach flat out coached Central's in that game, but come on man you know that Ltown scored every touch down off of Central miscues.... 2 bad punts, two TOs in the fourth quater and one real drive for a TD that started on Ltrain's 45 yard line!!!! Execution is the key and Lumberton did it better in that game. The only reason I mention those things about the TO and miscues is because you said in an earlier post if it wasnt for the return and the INT the score would have been 34 to 7!!! Well if it wasn't for TO and special teams miscues the score would have been 7 - 7.... But last I checked TO and special teams are part of the game too and a big reason why Lumberton won... Its all about execution... -

You say that central only scored on a pick 6 and a return, when the Ltrain scored on a fumble in the endzone and two jag turnovers on their side of the 50 in the forth quarter... Don't forget it was 14 - 14 just befor the forth before Central's errors caused them to implode. In fact almost every Ltrain score except for the first touch down came off of a Central mntal mistake! I can say our offense played to Lumbertons Defenseive strentgh... The middle with that monstar Beard there waiting... I think the game planning for the Jags lost them that game. They have changed offenses and added some passing, and I think it would be a more complete game if it were played again! -
*Nederland vs. Livingston Updates*/LIONS WIN!!!
shorttexas1 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Jags are great run stoppers so I thing that KLivingston will have their hands full with Central... It will be can the Jags score... This game looks like it was an entertaining Basketball contest... I look forward to seeing how this district plays out.. I still think Ned might beat Ltrain because they will test their DBs.... But I have beeen wrong about Lumberton before!
