  1. No, not really. I just noticed that 90% of your teams were from the 90's and 2000 era, which is understandable being that was when you were playing and coaching. Based just solely on high school performance, there would be a few more 70's and 80's players on my list, but the point being, this is YOUR list and I respect that. ho are the 70's and 80's players that you speak of? Most Older guys would back the Bj Tyler, Stephen Jackson, and Damon Sweet picks... They were head and shoulders above most... So would you please enlighten me!!! First of all, I did not post in order to try and tear down Dick's teams, not at all. Also, I definetly have no problem with his first team, that's as good as it gets. All of his picks came from what personal knowledge he has or was told and he had to go off of that, therefore the majority of his teams are from his era, no real issue with that either. I was just curious as to what criteria he used in picking the teams. By just using high school performance and accolades, there are other's from different era's they could be on the second, third and honorable mention teams as well. But like I said, this is his picks and I am good with that. BTW Dick, I believe B.B. Davis was from Bmt. French, not BCP. Oh Ok... I thought you knew some names personally, so i was just curious to know who they were... I am always into learning more...
  2. I have seen many players have suspect game in th ecourse of a year... The kid is young and he can improve in those areas.... I see the flaws in sometimes he gets a little too flashy and the fact that Central was determined not to loose to Ozen again on its home court made them play much harder... I was a scrappy physical game which usually equals to TO and such... Next year will be harder on him with all the good players around him leaving... It will be him Breon amd the little JV PG so they will have ball handlers with Breon being the weakest link. the size may be an issue next year but i think DeCarlos will shine being the third guard with freedom to score instead the primary guard handling the ball!!!
  3. Nope!! but came within a shoot of loosing last year! Gamble held the ball for the entire 3 minutes of the second overtime and won!
  4. I would have to agree with you Dickie... He had some down games but that had alot to do with youth and the system he was in... When it all comes down to it the system really doesn't allow for a thirty point a game kid... Boutte is methodical in his approach, team oriented, and very defensive minded... So I say he was the best I saw in the area... Only Tommy-Mason Griffin looked better and I wathed HJ and Oakhill and Yates and Duncanville and Nacross and North Crowely and St. Patrck and St. Anthony... So I am confortable to say he was in the top 10 players I saw this summer... He even looked just a hair behind Brandon Jennings and he was the top player of 2008 class!!!!

  6. Those first two team were on Point!!! Nobody could argue with that... I might even start a pro team that would win with that first team!!!! 8)
  7. I almost lost it when they were talking about Bobby Feilds.... That was a real tear jurker.... I did not know he was such a smart indivisual... He really hurt his coaches heart when he said he would finish med school!!! I wonder how many coaches care that much?
  8. That is real talk Teamfirst... Mathews did really well at Tennessee State and was on the verge of a Pro career but his height caused some concerns being only 6'7" at a small college. John Mertz from LCM came back to Lamar but couldn't crack the starting line up.... I have noticed a number of kids that comeback and tryout after all is said and done but Lamar needs to sell that campus and all that growth to these area kids... Over a four year period Lamar could pick on or two Jewels and work on them... Kids they recruit from Sophmores..... Too many of our kids leave the area and have decent college careers elsewhere... Edward Garrett, McNeese; Skip Jackson, Texas State; Hancocks (3), NWS, all wound up at other Southland Cnference Schools... They could have been good for Lamar and the AREA
  9. That is real No one one there can be removed... They deserve their just-do!
  10. But Earl Love with that speech impairment was heart breaking!!!!!!
  11. I could not lift my eyes off the screen... I save them on DVR because it was powerful... The Pee Wee showed all of todays youngsters the road they should not take... But the saddest story was the guy I think his name was Billy that got black balled from the league... He was ultra talented... An it wasn't bias, it gave alot of props to the white stars and players of the time too... It was a cool show...
  12. Ryan Zumo (Kelly) and Edward Messina (Kelly) could have at least been honorable Mention... They were players!!!!
  13. Wow! Out of all the players and the few schools in the area, you would think there would be some categories with several names debatable for induction. Now does this show the lack of talent in the area or not? SOC ah-hem! ( State Champs) would never have this problem SOC's is in the Metro-Plex dude... Cut the bull... I just tried to name the best that I remember... So there are guys out there that are just as good... Like I said someone needs to do there city or expand on my pics! Look dudess(?), you missing my point about what I said about Beaumont. The SOC reference was in jest. And I still say, with all the players that have came through, there should be more on the list, or does this show a lack of competitive competition in the area? I just did not go past a first team... 2nd and third on TBA!!!!

  15. Lamar officials aren't dummies. They realize they can't recruit/compete against the big D-1 schools for GOOD TALENT. The problem is that many of us don't know what GOOD TALENT is. Just because a kid scores 30 points a game in high school does not mean he can play at the next level. I remember back in the day when Lamar would recruit players and their press releases would sound like a player was all-world from his high school. But I began to wonder if the kid was all-world, then why was he signing with Lamar. I use to wonder if the player profiles were somehow "doctored up" to present a rosier pix of the player (s). My dad always says "you can't hide the sun". This is true in this instance because no matter how they try to paint the pic of a recruit, he will be what he will be..good or bad...Lamar CAN recruit any type of player...Its about selling a kid on being a key player on a SLC team or just another guy in uniform at a Big 12, SEC, ACC or Big Ten school , etc. Roc is very capable of doing that too...Kids just have to buy into what is best for THEM and not their egos...("I am going to sign with a BIG XII school")..Lamar has great facilities, money in the budget, and is in a decent conference...It is not the SWAC, for God sake!! ...It is VERY difficult to get a top tier kid at one of those schools....TRUST ME, I KNOW FIRST HAND!! ...Heck, I used to try to sell the recruits on the woman to man ratio where I was!! ;D ;D ;D...I landed a few, even stole one from Baylor, but it was NOT EASY! I think Lamar offers an attractive deal for those kids that will not start for a big conference... Roc did it at Memphis so he can do it here... Another thing is that over the past five years the best teams in this conference have been getting alot of attantion... especially after the NCAA tourny upset... ALL kids go to college now so the talent has to go somewhere now that Kevin Durants and Beasleys don't go straight to the NBA!

Harrison Smith still has not touched the floor at UT and he avearged 35 points per game at Houston Jones. The thing is that you don't know what a player has on the next level... We are NOT recruiters and we MAY not know... I have seen kids leave here and play JunCo and have enough success to get a D1 deal and perform well at the colleges i.e., Trey McDowel and Clearence Mathews... What I am saying is offer those kids an opportunity before letting them go to JunCo's and then get their production at Lamar!!! I am saying this because the bulk of the players that come to Lamar come out of JunCo!!!!!!
  17. Sunday Sunday Sunday.... FIRST PLACE ON THE LINE... 21 Game Winning Streak.... Houston TX.... Will be a playoff atmosphere! The luck of the draw.... Injuries effect more than just us! [Hidden Content]
  18. Hmmm! You had a kid from HJ back in the early 90's (?) and I think his last year LU made it to the NCAA and played Duke (?). Attendance didnot rise because he played at LU. But back to Donahoe. He's a good example of a player who is/was good but not for a major D-1 school, which was probably one of the problems in his case. Everybody is not a major D-1 just because you are a star at your local high school. There is nothing wrong with the LU's, SFA's, etc. to play ball and get a degree. You are talking about Kenyan Spears and he was not the star but that was the year Lamar had the most local talent playing for them... They had Thadeous Holden and Louis Arline both of silsbee playing... The season wasnt like this one... Lamar got hot at to start the season, went cold and finished seventh to in the Southland then won it all... They were led by 6'8" Landon Rowe SF... Both Holden and Spears started and the area was there at every game... They had some of there best years of attendance during that time... The program was virtually new to the Southland... They had just left the SunBelt in '98... You solidify the arguement more that they need local talent there for fan base and the fact is that they compete well too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only Southland Tourney Championship included three home town kids... And go back to BB Davis and Gulley and you got the last time they were ultra competitive and a sweet sixteen birth.... With LOCAL TALENT Lamar was at their best!
  19. he has made several visits to aTm, and made some sort of loose comittment... rumor has it Mack Brown did something that really turned him off It doesn't even matter... With the hype that comes with Chris Whaley he will be the feature back... So Christian needs to go somewhere where he can be the feature back... LSU does not have a commit as high as he is for his class other than Micheal Ford who is a pounder not a scat back like Michaels... So they could feature a two back system or give Christian the opportunity to win that job!
  20. Up by five with less than a minute... Oh and OK state can miss... The have shot 9 of 31
  21. You know what... I had a brain fort on Luke and Rideaux.... And I missed McCoy all together.... I am just going to have to drop Jeremy and Walt!!!
  22. WOW! Imagine that.....in two entire decades the best players came from Central, WB, and Ozen.... : Were you expecting Kelly or Legacy? I think Ryan Zumo and Jude Messina were close but no cake... And I did say Beaumont so the only schools there are Central, Ozen and Westbrook!
  23. I know this will be hard to do an all time but lets do an all decade team. I will start with Beaumont and you fans do your home towns or dispute my picks!!!!. 90s Luke Jackson WB at the F/G - [glow=red,2,300]This was a corection[/glow] by Dickie V Omar Sneed WB at the PF Eric Rideaux Central at the F/C [glow=red,2,300]This was a corection[/glow] by Dickie V Omar Sneed WB at the PF Franklin Paul Central at SF Paris Corner WB at the PG 2000s Kendrick Perkins Ozen C Clarence Mathews Central PF Trey McDowel WB at the Gaurd Brandon Andrews Central Gaurd Lil Mike Thomas Ozen PG
