Kids and parents need to take the initiative. Also if you have a kid who has even the most remote possibility of getting an athletic scholarship of any kind, get him/her enrolled in the ncaa clearinghouse online. If your kid is not registered with the clearinghouse then the coaches can't really "see" him. Things like official visits cannot take place without your kid being enrolled. It is a very important first step. Also coaches in all sports at the collegiate level watch their summer camps very closely. Those camps are not just babysitting for a week or so. The coaches are looking at the talent and learning about personalities and intelligence. I have personally been told by coaches at very large D1 schools that they get "a lot" of recruits from their camps. It's just another way to get onto the radar. The internet is also a great tool. With a small amount of resourcefulness you can get the e-mail address of any coach out there. Send out e-mails to the schools you would be interested in attending. And finally, remember that the school IS ACTUALLY GIVING OUT MONEY when they award a scholarship to any athlete. They want to see that they are your choice also. Many times, if your kid is not a Vince Young or a Colt McCoy, they will want your kid to decide that he wants to go to that school in particular before they will really talk seriously about money. For example, the UT coaches are really looking for kids that have always had the dream to wear that burnt orange. They want a kid who is already a Longhorn at heart. Of course UT can take this type of stance a bit easier than say a Sam Houston or a Lamar can but the others are similar.
Good True post. Gone is the day that you can sit and wait. High School coaches have contacts that they have gotten to know over the years, but it would be unfair to ask them to know everyone...at every level. They cant. Who in their right mind says, "I will wait for someone else to go get my child $100,000.00." Do everything you can....use every tool. And when someone says "You are doing things wrong or different than the way its been done.".... just smile and continue on. If your child doesnt get a scholarship.....it will not be from lack of effort.

Coldsprings is next get ready. They beat us pretty bad and we beat you. Ha! ha!
tell that to the OF football team, i bet they'd smack you a good one across the head! in their minds i promise you they are excited about their number being bigger than BCs at the end of the night but they will go home tonight and put a W/L next to this game because to WIN this game in their mines was to be better than 4 to go to the playoffs...
Here is the deal. Making the play-offs is no big deal these days. Being the district champion is. They take 3 teams, back when I played they took 1. Orangefield went 7-3 and nobody expected them to do that. They beat Bridge City and nobody expected them to do that not even me. They proved me wrong and I love it. So yes I will take a win and the kids should also because they deserve it. They are the best bobcat team in a while and should be proud. I am!!!!!People can say what they want about coach Huck but he was the right man for the job and a Bridge City graduate. How Ironic.
Good post....and Ironical.

Why do you think he would be the "man that could get it done"? His record is about the same as the one we have now. Im not trying to start anything........I just dont understand how he could be any better or worse. Help a guy understand....would ya?
I'm not going to dog a current Lamar coach as I've posted earlier I'm not qualified to make a decision on firing a guy or not. However, the Lamar offense has been terrible this season and even though Todd Dodge was fired as Head Coach at UNT he is a better offensive coach in my opinion. Take that and a dollar and you might be able to buy a coke. :D
I still dont know but I will take the dollar and run! -

That would be a $139,999.99 swing! Not bad! -
Regarding all of the tailgating rules currently in place at Lamar, I think the folks at LU and the City of Beaumont are missing an incredible opportunity to generate more fan support and money for the university. For a game that starts at 6pm on Saturday, why only open the parking lots at noon on game day? Why not clear the lots at noon the day before (that's when classes end), and allow the motor homes and trailers to set up and begin their partying then? Charge money and allow the big supporters to stay the night in the parking lot. Allow LU or BPD officers to work security at all of the entrances and throughout the parking lots, and use a portion of the fees to pay them. I am willing to bet the big-time tailgaters would gladly pay the extra money to be able to set up an entire day earlier. I know we're not the same as Texas A&M, but tailgaters there pay big bucks to show up Thursday afternoon and don't leave until Sunday. It's a win-win for the university and the supporters. Plus, it would prevent the game day jam of folks trying to get in and set up just 6 hours before kickoff. Perhaps the LU folks should ask other universities how they do it and conduct a cost analysis to see if it's worth changing.
Good post. -

What a difference a year will make. A full eleven game schedule of College level play under your belt. A full eleven games of getting to know who or what is playing next to you. A years worth of College level conditioning. A years worth of getting to know what is expected of you. A years worth of getting to know your new surroundings. Year two will be better. -
Around four or five years back a talented Silsbee team went to Hamshire thinking it would be an easy win....It wasnt. One game at a time Tigers. One after the other after the other after the other. ;)
Come on guys, it was a big game for both teams and emotions were running high. There was a little extra curricular activity going on from both sides. Both teams wanted this game bad. As for the accusation of trying to run up the score. That is just flat out ridiculous. You don't run the score up by going for it on 4th and 1 on your own 45. Trying to run out the clock isn't running the score up. As said before, we didn't throw it deep. We were running a very basic offense. I guarantee, had we got it down around the goal line we would have killed the clock. Some of you just look for s%&t to whine about... Geez!
I agree with everything but the highlighted part. Unless it was for both teams. It is football and I dont remember seeing Silsbee ever slowing down untill about 30 sec left on the clock..... SubVarsity and up. Do I agree with doing it.....no. But for other reasons. Players get hurt. You dont have to think to far back to remember that Silsbee has had a couple of players hurt this year at the verrrrrrrrrrry tail end of the game.......being up 25 points. But on the other hand......its football. You play for this year and the next. Win or shut up and go home.
