1.
UIL Regs: Issues NOT appropriate for discussion with coach: playing time team strategy play calling etc. Maybe this is why some don't play?
Bluedove - please clarify - are you saying some choose not to play because they can't discuss these things with coaches because of UIL? Not agreeing or disagreeing, just asking for clarification.
 2. Yes, lack of commitment on the part of some players/parents is a problem.  But there are many athletes/parents who have foregone summer, holidays, and spring breaks to be at all the practices and games.  The problem continues to be on many levels - when players miss practices/games for leisure activities, oftentimes they don't receive any consequences for their actions.  This sends the wrong message to those who made the choice to honor their commitments.  On some occasions, coaches have tried to issue consequences only to be chewed out by parents and not backed by administration.  Finally, we live in a society that thinks it's okay to go for whatever brings immediate gratification.  As stated many times before in this thread, the problem is on many levels.
 3.

Can we assume that HF and OF can be favorably compared based on enrollment?  If so then the issue of AD and who and what is a good fit can be brought up and we can look at OF, they replaced their AD last year with not much improvement in football.  Last year there was a thread that stated that it was the kids at OF and their preference to play basketball was more to blame for the team having trouble making playoffs.  Watching SETX sports for more than a decade I can attest to one thing OF will always compete for a playoff spot in every sport.  The new AD at OF will make two playoffs in the next five years. HF can only compete in vball and baseball year in and year out.  The reason is * Athletes are above average in ALL of the following categories: Height, wing span, quickness, speed, overall coordination and body control.  In the last five years HF has completely lost all there athletes, they are gone the have a hand full at best.  Now new coach will fix that. OF and HF are the only two schools in that district that have never been larger than 3A.  However, OF has more athletes and better facillities as well as better pay.  The OF parents may not always agree with coaches but they keep their thoughts to themselves better than HF, the HF parents feel that this site was designed for them to explain to the rest of the SETX community that with better coaching they would win.  HF wants to let you know how well they do in defending their state title in academic UIL.  What we should do is set up a forum for the smart kids parents from HF to get on her and thump their chest.  All I can say is HF is not two or ten years from competing in all sports they should move the junior high coaches up and then and only then will they win.
:D
WOW! - I take it you're not a communication major.  There is so much to say about this comment - where to begin?!!! Think I'll bite my tongue and just sit this one out.
 4. I must admit, I'm a little curious as to Bluedove's answer to your question horndawg.
 5. No one said it caused them to lose in the playoffs.  The comment was about the lack of support for school spirit.  That being said, spirit does go hand-in-hand with momentum.  Spirit certainly won't singlehandedly make a winning team, but it is one of MANY pieces necessary to create an overall winning program.
 6. Actually, they were referring to administration killing H-F spirit - at the playoff game a group of fans were tailgating in the football parking lot - the team was enjoying it, the fans were loving it, nothing was out of hand, but administration shut it down.  A real let down seconds before the game began.
 7. I will preface this by saying I have no irons in the fire or dogs in the fight.  "As an outside observerer, there are more issue that need to be handled.  However, they do not need to be handled on this forum.  All this bickering is not beneficial to the end result, that the kids at HF deserve the best opportunity.  Ok, Mangan did not work out.  Quit beating the dead horse. If you wonder about it coaches that consider appying watch these boards and form opinions about communities, situations and jobs.  Perception is reality......... " And therein lies the REAL problem shermdog, too many people on many levels are putting their own self interest above that of the kids as a whole, and until that stops and what is best for the kids becomes number 1, there will be problems.  And yes, coaches definitely read these posts, and very little of what's been said paints H-F in a very good light.  "Mangan was new in the program, not a coach that had been there before and not from anywhere in the area and look where that got him -- so what's your next suggestion?  We've had coaches from in the area, out of the area, promoted from within(been there before), and already there.  This has been said before -- The problem lies deeper and yes the school board, community, parents and kids will all need to recognize the real problems at HF before we see improvement/success no matter who is there.  All sports under the athletic program need support from all of those mentioned above.  I attended basketball games at WOS, HJ and Orangefield where community, parental and peer support was present.  I attended basketball games at HF(HOME GAMES) where the cheerleaders were not dressed out and cheering on their team (peers).  I do understand that the sponsor had a baby during the basketball season but was no one else able to step in and be a co-sponsor? I could go on but my whole point is many things need to change, get with the program, HF is being left behind in athletics." Well said hfmom - the problem does lie deep and the kids are the ones who pay the price.  There are many truly talented athletes, supportive parents and community members that want a change, but we have to be willing to make the tough decisions, dig in and work hard to get it fixed.  It won't be easy, and probably not pretty, but  it's time to work together to solve these issues and bring back the H-F spirit and pride that existed once upon a time before it's too late for yet another group of kids.
