  1. It has nothing to do with spring break and it's not just the catcher. Everyone involved in this team is playing a part in the slow start. IMO this team has been lethargic and unmotivated since the first loss against Columbus and the long talk after the game. I'm not sure who's in charge of motivating these kids or how they're trying to do it, but whatever is going on isn't working! Something has to be done to generate some positive emotions in these kids and get the fun back in the game. It looks more like we're attending a funeral on the field and in the dugout. ??? ??? It doesn't look like anyone wants to be there and that goes for everyone! I'm sorry but your not going to be very successful in baseball if you aren't having any fun with the game. This isn't as simple as football where you can piss a kid off and get him to play harder. The game of baseball isn't played well by angry or upset players and that's what we seem to have right now. Someone or something has got to change the morale of this team. IMO, the coaches do have the most control over that but this team still needs for someone to step up and be a leader. This is a very talented team and the season is far from over. It'll only take a little spark to get this team going in the right direction. The only question is: Who or what's going to provide that spark? And it better happen pretty soon because district play starts next week!

  5. I've got to go with the Horns. It should be a great race between them and A&M.
  6. Congrats to Ross on another win. I'm glad to see him doing well. I got to talk to him at the College Classic before their game against Houston. He's having a blast and he's still the same Ross I remember when he was 9 yrs. old. A great kid!
  7. Barbers Hill Ponder - 3 Padgett - 1 Henscey - 1 Rocha - 1 Carmona - 1
  8. Outstanding facility. One of the best playing surfaces around. From the looks of the addition to their school, they may not be 4A very long.
  9. Great game to watch I just didn't like the outcome. Both pitchers had very good games. BH let way too many opportunities slip away with runners in scoring position and I'm still trying to understand why we pitched to the kid that had the game winning hit. ??? ??? It just didn't make much sense to me. I guess that's why I'm not in the coaching business. Maybe there was more to it than what I saw or understand.
  10. BH 2 MANVEL 3 BH 2 runs, 5 hits, 1 error MANVEL 3 runs, 5 hits, 1 error Rocha - 7 ip, 5 hits, 3 runs Carmona - 2-3, 2-run HR, BB, 2 rbi, 2 sb Padgett - 1-4, 1 run, sb Henscey - 1-3, Double, BB Peterson - 1-2, Double, BB A well played game by both teams. It all came down to who hit the ball with runners in scoring position. Manvel wins the game in the bottom of the 7th with a base hit scoring a runner from 2nd. BH left 7 runners on base and 4 of those were in scoring position with less than 2 outs. Manvel only left 1 runner on base for the game. Rocha pitched a good game without his best stuff. We just couldn't seem to get the big hit with runners on base. This was definitely a team loss for both the players and coaches. We didn't hit the ball with runners on base and we made some decisions that didn't work out well. Everyone needs to accept their part of the responsibility for this loss. IMO this team has got to get back to having fun both playing the game and coaching the game. The excitement and fire that I watched in the first 3 scrimmages and first 3 games has disappeared. I'm not sure what is going on inside the fences, but something has got to change to get the excitement back! I would consider this a small bump in the road. This is a very talented group and I still expect them to make a run deep into the playoffs. I'm a firm believer that your true character and strength is revealed when things aren't going well. I'm looking forward to seeing the character of the players and coaches and to see what this team is made of. This is a tight knit group of kids and I would expect them to put all of the BS to the side and get this thing going in the right direction. I'm hoping to see them get this thing turned around this weekend in the Ewell Jackson Tournament! A great challenge for the team!
  11. Hey Snooooop, I've got some more scouting material for you! COLUMBUS TOURNAMENT BH 11 COLUMBUS 12 As good as BH has looked this year and in the first 2 games of this tournament, I watched an entirely different team on Saturday night. It just seemed to be one of those nights that nothing went right. For whatever reason, this team was not ready to play last night. A very poor defensive night for BH and only a few kids hit the ball and looked good at the plate. Every team will lose games they're expected to win and maybe win a few they're expected to lose. Tonight we definitely lost one to a much less talented team. I know the kids got ripped by the coaches for about 15 to 20 minutes after the game so hopefully they'll respond in a positive way and let this one go. Looking forward to a rebound on Tuesday night! Game results: BH Offense : 11 runs, 7 hits, 8 runners lob Padgett - 3-3, 2b, 3b, 2 bb, 1 rbi, 4 runs, 2 sb Henscey- 2-2, 2b, 2 bb, 1 hbp, 2 rbi, 1 run, 1 sb Burditt - 1-4, 3-Run HR, 1 run, 3 rbi BH Defense: 12 runs allowed only 5 earned, 9 hits, 6 walks, 7 K, 6 errors Peterson - 3 ip, 3 hits, 5 runs 4 earned, 4 bb, 4 k Mitchell - 2 ip, 4 hits, 6 runs 1 earned, 2 bb, 2 k Baker - 1 ip, 2 hits, 1 run 0 earned, 1 k All-Tournament Team selections from BH were: Padgett - 5 for 11, 7 runs, 1 rbi, 4 sb, 3 bb, 0 errors Carmona - 6 for 12, 6 runs, 3 rbi, 3 sb, 2 bb, 4 errors Rocha - 3 for 8, 1 run, 3 rbi, 0 sb, 2 bb, 1 Solo HR, 0 errors, 5 ip, 1 hit, 3 k, 0 bb Other notables that had a good tournament: Henscey - 5 for 10, 4 runs, 7 rbi, 2 sb, 2 bb, 1 hbp, 3-Run HR, 0 errors Burditt - 3 for 9, 2 runs, 3 rbi, 0 sb, 2 bb, 3-Run HR, 1 error, 5 ip, 3 hits, 8 k, 0 bb Ponder - 3 for 12, 2 runs, 6 rbi, 1 bb, Solo HR, 3-Run HR, 1 error

  13. Did you put in a call to the Baytown Sun to stop the presses? ??? Hey snoooopdog, you need to catch up with the times. There are multiple sources to look up game stats. You ever read a newspaper? I'm not sure how posting stats has anything to do with scouting, but I've never heard of a game plan prepared off of a stat sheet. Exactly how would you game plan off of my post about the kids? What are you going to do walk the entire BH team intentionally? You don't know kids tendencies or weaknesses without seeing them play. You don't know what or when they throw certain pitches, you don't know which pitches a hitter hits or what pitches they struggle with unless you watch them play. If you can game plan off of looking at stats on this post, your in the wrong business. Hey I have an idea, you can become a scout by looking at my posts! ;D ;D ;D
  14. Columbus Tournament BH 10 Caldwell 0 Rocha gets the win - 5 ip, 1 hit, 3 K, 0 runs Baker - 1 ip, 0 hits, 1 K, 0 runs Carmona 4-4, 4 runs, 2 rbi Padgett 1-3, 2 runs Henscey 1-3, 2 runs, 1 rbi Ponder 1-3, 3 r-HR,1 run, 4 rbi Rocha 1-2 , 1rbi Rocha looked very sharp on the mound and the defense was very solid behind him. The DP combo of Carmona and Clifton once again turning a double play in the game. BH 11 LaGrange 0 Burditt gets the win. 5 ip, 3 hits, 8 K, 0 BB Daniel Mitchell - 2 ip, 1 hit Carmona 2-4, 2 runs Henscey 2-5, 3 run HR, 4 rbi, 1 run Ponder 2-5, 1 run, HR, 1 rbi Burditt 2-3, 1 run Rocha 1-3, 1 run, HR, 2 rbi Peterson 1-2, 2b Lyday 3-4, 2b, 2 runs, 2 rbi Baker 2-4, 2b, 1 rbi This was a great day of baseball for BH. Great pitching, fielding, and hitting. The games were played all day with a 15 - 25 mph wind blowing straight in from left-center field. BH hit 4 HR on the day into this wind and as unbelievable as it may sound, they easily could have had a 7-9 HR day without the wind blowing. Henscey and Ponder both hit 2 shots to the wall in the first game that the wind held up and Lyday and Baker both hit shots to the wall in the second game. The pitching was outstanding giving up only 5 hits in the 2 games and getting 2 shutouts. The middle infield of Carmona and Clifton turned 2 more double plays on the day as well. Ponder was very solid behind the plate in both games allowing no passed balls and throwing out both runners that attempted to steal 2nd. Baker made several nice plays at 3rd base and Lyday was solid at 1st base. The outfield of Henscey, Padgett, Rocha, and Burditt were error free with several fly balls into the blustery winds.
  15. We won't know until after play today. They played one side of the bracket yesterday and the other side plays today.
  16. BH 11 LaGrange 0 Burditt gets the win. 5 ip, 3 hits, 8 K, 0 BB Daniel Mitchell - 2 ip, 1 hit Carmona 2-4, 2 runs Henscey 2-5, 3 run HR, 4 rbi, 1 run Ponder 2-5, 1 run, HR, 1 rbi Burditt 2-4, 1 run Rocha 1-3, 1 run, HR, 2 rbi Peterson 1-2, 2b Lyday 3-4, 2 runs, 2 rbi Baker 2-4, 2b, 1 rbi
  17. I think this is definitely part of the reason. I also don't think he realized just how much talent was going to be on this team. Everyone got caught up in the loss of the pitching staff and didn't realize that we had 3 to 4 solid arms that would have started on most varsity squads last year.
  18. A few more stats on the Columbus game: Carmona 4-4, 4 runs, 2 rbi Padgett 1-3, 2 runs Henscey 1-3, 2 runs, 1 rbi Ponder 1-3, 3 r-HR,1 run, 4 rbi Rocha 1-2 , 1rbi Rocha looked very sharp on the mound and the defense was very solid behind him. The DP combo of Carmona and Clifton once again turning a double play in the game.
  19. It was a good ball game. Bay City does have a good ball club. Their starting left handed pitcher Tomek is a good one. He went 6 innings giving up all 6 runs but had a great night except for a couple of mistakes to Ponder and Padgett. Once you get past Tomek their pitching does drop off considerably. They have very good hitters 1-4 but they drop off considerably after that. The BH pitching staff is deeper and the lineup is better 1-9, but Tomek seemed to even things out a little with his performance.
  20. I like what I'm seeing so far. It seems we have a different player stepping up with the big hits every game. 1st Scrimmage - Henscey 2nd Scrimmage- Peterson 3rd Scrimmage - Burditt 1st Game - Burditt, Ponder, Padgett, Baker
  21. BH 6 Bay City 5 A good ball game although BH was a little shaky in the field. 4 errors on the night led to 3 of the 5 Bay City runs. Burditt got the start going 3 innings giving up 3 runs in the first inning before giving way to Matt Peterson. Peterson finished the game getting the win going 4 innings and giving up 2 runs. Great job of pitching by Peterson in relief. Heath Padgett had a nice diving catch in center and Carmona and Clifton had a rally ending double play early in the game. The offensive stars of the night were Padgett, Ponder, and Burditt. Burditt had a couple of hits on the night with a big 2 run single in the bottom of the first cutting the Bay City lead to 3-2. The game stayed that way until the bottom of the 5th. Tony Carmona reached on an error and Ponder gave BH a 4-3 lead with a 2-run 400ft bomb over the scoreboard in left. Peterson shut Bay City down in order in the top of the 6th on 5 pitches. Jared Baker hit a 1-out double off the bottom of the left-center wall in the bottom of the 6th and Heath Padgett gave BH a cushion with a 2-Run HR to left for a 6-3 lead. Peterson got the leadoff hitter in the top of the 7th and then made his only 2 mistakes of the night. With a 1-2 count, Peterson hit the batter and then gave up a 2-run homerun to cut the lead to 6-5. Peterson got the next hitter to line to center and then closed the game out with a dribbler down the 1st base line that Ponder scooped up and threw to first. Burditt 2 hits, Padgett 2 hits 2-run HR, Ponder 2-run HR, Baker 2 hits

Burditt 2 hits, Padgett 2 hits 2-run HR, Ponder 2-run HR, Baker 2 hits
  23. BH VS. PASADENA DOBIE BH looked very good once again. Rocha pitched 2 innings giving up 1 unearned run, Peterson pitched 2 innings 0 runs, Burditt 1 inning gave up 2 runs. Carmona and Jared Baker both looked good in their 1 inning of work giving up no runs. The hitting once again looked extremely good. Jay Burditt led the way this time going 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs, Colby Henscey 2-3 with 3 runs scored, Matt Peterson 1-3 with 2 RBIs, Ponder, Padgett, Mitchell, Rocha, all with hits also. Defense was once again solid with Carmona and Clifton turning another DP up the middle, Padgett a diving catch in center. The team had only 1 error on the day. Looking forward to the first game Monday.
  24. Congrats to Michael Padgett on a great game!
  25. Thanks Eagle07. We'll try to keep the updates coming for those that can't come watch.
