  1. Dove, Teal Seasons Set Dove, Teal Seasons Set AUSTIN, Texas — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service SRC (Service Regulation Committee) has approved the 2009-2010 Texas dove season, including a 70-day season and 15-bird daily bag statewide, and a 16-day early teal season. Additionally, the SRC approved moving the Texas South Zone dove season opening the Friday nearest Sept. 20, but no earlier than the 17th. This year the season will open Sept. 18. Texas dove season in the North and Central Dove Zones will run from Tuesday, Sept. 1 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and reopen Saturday, Dec. 26 through Sunday, Jan. 9, with a 15-bird bag and not more than two white-tipped doves. The South Zone dove season will run Sept. 18-Nov. 3, reopening Dec. 26-Jan. 17 with a 15-bird bag and not more than two white-tipped doves. Possession limit is twice the daily bag for all migratory game birds except light geese, which currently does not have a possession limit. The Special South Texas White-winged Dove Area will open to white-winged dove afternoon-only (noon to sunset) hunting the first two full weekends in September running from Sept. 5-6 and 12-13 and reopen when the regular South Zone season begins on Friday, Sept. 18 through Tuesday, Nov. 3 and again from Saturday, Dec. 26 through Wednesday, Jan. 13. The Special White-winged Dove Area season takes four of the allowable 70 days, so when the regular season opens, this area most close four days earlier than the rest of the South Zone. The daily bag limit is 15 birds, not more than four mourning doves during the first two weekend splits and 2 white-tipped doves. Once the general season opens, the aggregate bag limit will be 15. The Service also approved a proposal to give TPWD the option to adjust a portion of the boundary of the Special White-winged Dove Area. This change would remove portions of Jim Hogg and Starr counties. Texas’ 16-day September teal season will run Sept. 12-27. The season for rail and gallinule is Sept. 12-27 and Oct. 31-Dec. 23; for snipe, Oct. 31-Feb. 14; and for woodcock, Dec. 18-Jan. 31.
  2. Free Web Service Connects Hunters With Places To Hunt AUSTIN, Texas — Research surveys show that finding a place to hunt is a barrier for many people in today’s Texas, which is why Texas Parks and Wildlife Department created the Hunt Texas Online Connection, a free Web service that allows anyone to view hunting opportunities posted by private landowners across the state. In early 2008, the department invited landowners to list hunting lease opportunities in Texas for free, including last-minute openings. Currently, hunters can search more than 450 hunting opportunities by lease type, county, game animal, cost per hunter and other parameters. The service is free to both hunters and landowners. "Anyone looking for a hunting lease in Texas can use this free service to find listings from landowners throughout the state," said Linda Campbell, TPWD program director for private lands and public hunting. "This is one way we’re trying to better serve our license-buying public. It’s important to keep the Texas hunting tradition strong, since hunting supports wholesome family recreation, pumps more than a billion dollars per year into Texas local economies, and provides an economic incentive for private land stewards to protect wildlife habitat." To register, landowners can visit the main Hunt Texas Online Connection Web area on the TPWD Web site. Click "Get Started," select a username and password, log in, and start looking at hunting opportunities. Leases can be seen without registering and logging in, but users must register in order to contact landowners. After users fill out the online registration form, they’ll get an email with a long URL ending in the word "activate" — users must click this link to complete registration. If users don’t receive the activation email, it might be because a security system is blocking it. In that case, users could try placing [email protected] in their address book or allowed e-mail rules. Hunters and landowners will determine if they are the right fit for each other, and all transactions will be between landowners and hunters. The new service also provides links to privately operated hunting lease Web sites as a convenience for the public. TPWD does not independently verify, endorse or warrant any of the information posted on Hunt Texas Online Connection, or any information contained on the privately operated hunting lease Web sites that are linked from the service. Anyone can e-mail questions, comments and suggestions about Hunt Texas Online Connection to [email protected]. The TPWD Wildlife Information staff at (512) 389-4505 can also provide basic assistance with the service. Media Contact: Tom Harvey, 512-389-4453, [email protected] July 23, 2009 [Hidden Content]=
  3. TPW Commission Authorizes Crossbows for Early Archery Season AUSTIN, Texas — In preparation for implementation of new legislation, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has adopted rules allowing hunters to use crossbows during the upcoming special archery-only hunting season and authorizing persons with documented physical disabilities to use laser sighting devices. Currently, crossbows cannot be used during an archery-only season except by persons with an upper-limb disability. Recent legislative action gave authority to the Commission to allow any person, regardless of physical ability, to use a crossbow during the archery-only season, provided the person has acquired an archery stamp and a valid Texas hunting license, except in Grayson County. Crossbows may be used in Grayson County during the special archery-only open season (Oct. 3-Nov. 6) only by hunters with an upper-limb disability who possess a physician’s statement attesting to the permanent loss of the use of fingers, hand or arm in a manner that renders a person incapable of using a longbow, compound bow or recurved bow. Any person, regardless of physical ability, may use a crossbow during the general season in Grayson County (Nov. 7-Jan. 3). The Commission also authorized use of laser sighting devices by persons with a physical disability that renders the person incapable of using traditional firearm sights to hunt game animals and game birds. The provision is limited to lawful hunting hours in open seasons, provided the person possesses a physician’s or optometrist’s statement certifying the extent of the disability. The person must also be assisted by a person who does not have a physical disability, has a hunting license and is at least 13 years of age. The new crossbow and laser sighting rules are both the result of bills passed by state lawmakers in the 81st Texas Legislature earlier this year. The new rules take effect Sept. 1, 2009. Anyone planning to take advantage of the new crossbow opportunity during the special archery-only hunting season this October should review the rules and definitions for crossbow hunting in Texas. These are listed under Means and Methods in the Outdoor Annual booklet available at hunting license sales locations and on the TPWD Web site. 4. [Hidden Content] LaCour, Oubre have eye on gold at USATF This week will be huge for two area athletes. Dayton’s own Cameron LaCour and Matthew Oubre will be traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina to participate in the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships. Both will represent Track Houston, the team both have participated on. The 43rd Annual Event will take place from July 28th- August 2nd at Irwin Bell Track Stadium on the campus of North Carolina’s A&T University. Many of today’s Olympic stars began their track and field careers Competing in the USATF Championships. Entry for this championship is based on athlete performances at preliminary, Association, and Regional levels of the 2009 USATF Junior Olympic Program. Competition takes place in five two-year age divisions, with athletes generally falling between the ages of 8 and 18. LaCour, who just graduated from Dayton this past June won the Class 4-A State Championship in the 110-meter hurdles this past year in Austin. He will have the number one seed in the 110-meter hurdles at the USATF this week in the Young Men’s Division. LaCour will run today at 8:00 A.M. Should he qualify then, Cameron would run in the finals on Sunday at 1:30 P.M. An incoming freshman this year at Dayton high school, Oubre will have twice the work as he will take part in the shot put and discus throw in the Youth Boys division. Oubre will start his competition on the first day of the event which is Tuesday. He will throw the shot put at 9:00 A.M. Should Oubre make the finals then he would compete in the finals of the shot put on Saturday at 12:00 P.M. The USATF encompasses the world’s oldest organized sports, the most watched events of Olympic broadcasts, and is the #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport. Good luck this week to Cameron and Matthew both as the world will be watching them.
  5. I saw that, it looks like one endzone is already done as well.
  6. No doubt, [move]HIJACKED THREAD ALERT!!!!![/move]
  7. This year will be his test season, he should do well but we will have to see.
  8. I have been making custom duck calls with Cocobolo barrels and Echo polycarbonate inserts($40). I will post some pictures later and I do have some made from several other types of wood.
  9. I agree with the above posts but the new Vinci is just plain ugly if you ask me. On another note the Benelli Nova Pump is a good gun, my son has been using one for about five years and it seems to be as durable as my 870.
  10. I think they are working on the reoccurring track problems. I know there are several bad spots on the home stretch.
  11. Call me insane but Dayton never played Waco La Vega or Manor in regular season contests! They traveled up to Naca once about 13 years ago! ;D It was in 1971, Dayton beat Manor 49-18 in the first game of the season and La Vega 10-0 in the 3rd game. When liltex says a few he always means 38. ;D
  12. If they will keep their minds on the task at hand and not be reading what message boards and prediction polls have to say.
  13. Isn't a huge hill a mountain. You are right playoffs in the second year of existance what we impressive. GCM has got talent I hear their 7 on 7 season went well, but like you said it will be an up hill battle.
  14. Someone correct me if I am wrong but, if the move is legitimate you can get a waiver from the UIL. I assume the moved has to be verified and then the player is eligible.
  15. Dayton didn't and a coach said that the Lumberton vs Dayton scrimmage will be in Dayton.
  16. Ya'll keep looking past the Goose. I assure you they will "compete" this year! The goose has "no chance" against Dayton or Crosby this season but they just might sneak into the 3rd or 4th spot. I think they will do better this year but don't let a little 7 on 7 success go to your head. I know they have some talent and are looking better but I agree maybe sneak into the 3 or 4 hole.
  17. Still takes a while. It took us (football team, Indianettes, band, cheerleaders, Indian Spirit, film crew, Geronimo Crew... in the end, we had a convoy of about seven or so busses) two hours to get to Reliant by charter bus. How many times did ya'll stop? Weak bladder ??? In 2-1/2 hours we will be getting ready to unload at LBJ.
  18. I thought Dayton was playing this game in Austin? I believe that is the case, playing @ LBJ.
  19. Dave Campbell predicted that they would win their district.
  20. Last year the scheduled scrimmage between Dayton and Lumberton was moved to Dayton because of weather conditions, if I remember right. I assumed we would travel to Lumberton this year but it sounds like they are sticking to the original plan. Lumberton at Dayton on the 21st or 22nd.
  21. Are you a trainer or something? I know my dog just had pups in May and she is gonna need some work before I cnaa get her out there.
  22. That statement is the equivalent of a 3rd grader saying, "I can't beat you up but I know someone who can." Come on man, I hope the district is more competitive this year too. But, you saying the Broncos are not as good doesn't make it so. Just like Bronco fans saying they are going to be good doesn't make it so. By the time we play BH everyone will know what the Broncos are about.
  23. Well we will see about that. He will have his chance to prove it. Saying he is better than AJ is a big statement, might be putting a bullseye on him.
