tvc184
Maybe they will surprise us. There are bound to be some really big bass in there hiding under some logs and in creeks.
mat
There's a fair amount of 3 - 6 lb fish caught in this area every year. I think they can travel 90 miles too so there's no telling where they'll end up in Texas or Louisiana. I think (hope) the stringers surprise us. I know the City of Orange has pulled out all the stops to make this memorable event.
mat
Dean Rojas shows the crowd on the stage, and the big screen, his Day One leading catch at the Sabine River Challenge. Rojas also had the big bass of the day with a 5-15. Thirteen fishermen did not weigh in a fish, including 4 time Classic Champ Rick Clunn. But that is not a record. The record is 20 set in 2006 in Missouri. 16 turned in five fish limits, 27 turned in only one fish.Place Name Day 1 Total Fish Total Weight Fish Weight 1 Dean Rojas 5 15-10 5 15-10 2 Mark Davis 5 13-13 5 13-13 3 Cliff Crochet 5 13- 0 5 13- 0 4 Hank Cherry 5 12-11 5 12-11 5 Greg Hackney 5 11-13 5 11-13 6 Ishama Monroe 5 11- 3 5 11- 3 7 Jeff Kriet 5 10-13 5 10-13 7 Matt Reed 5 10-13 5 10-13 9 Casey Ashley 5 10- 9 5 10- 9 10 Todd Faircloth 5 10- 7 5 10- 7 Other notables:15 Skeet Reese 5 9- 1 5 9- 1 19 Kevin VanDam 3 8- 2 3 8- 2 22 Cliff Pace 4 7-11 4 7-11 39 Shaw E Grigsby 3 5- 9 3 5- 9 51 Michael Iaconelli 2 4- 3 2 4- 3 54 Brent Chapman 2 3-13 2 3-13 http://www.kogt.com/kogt_sports.htm

Lots of areas where you can leave the ship channel and be in 1-2 ft of water in no time. Not to mention all the logs in the creeks, bayous, and rivers. mat
Jasper's Todd Faircloth vaulted into the lead Friday with the biggest stringer so far at 16-8. Kevin VanDam did the same and is in the Top 10 with just 7 keepers. Terry Scroggins caught the big fish of the day 6-1. After boat trouble on Day One, Dennis Tietje battled back to make the top 50, which guarantees the Elites at least a $10,000 paycheck. Mike Iaconelli ran his boat into the woods after hitting something in the water and did not weigh-in. They can run anywhere they can get to from that spot which technically (since they can hit the Intracoastal Canal from there) is from Brownsville to Florida. I have heard that they have a 100 mile limit but not sure if that was true.
ST413
I think I read 90 miles but will have to look at a map to see some of the routes to those places.
mat
Todd Faircloth wins tourney.Anglers covered a lot of area in the last week. At weigh in today a couple of the fisherman said they put over 1100 mile on their boats this week. One said he went 120 miles one way today. He said he fished a lake off of Galveston Bay. Another said he was 80 miles into Louisiana. One thing’s for sure, the support for the event was outstanding. Attendance was through the roof. Initial indications are BASS would like to return, however I don’t know if many of the anglers would agree.Place Name Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Total Fish Total Weight Fish Weight Fish Weight Fish Weight Fish Weight 1 Todd Faircloth 5 10- 7 5 16- 8 4 7-14 5 14- 9 19 49- 6 2 Dean Rojas 5 15-10 5 10-14 5 11-14 1 4- 6 16 42-12 3 T. ST413
Go to the bassmaster link in an above post and scan the blog one angler said he put over 1000 miles on his boat during the week. They ran the intercoastal, through galveston bay, and east bay. I would like to know how you know you are going to fish out of orange and select a spot around Lake Charles or Lake Arthur. Lake Arthur is by far the closest and about a 30-40 minute run by boat.
