But is a super athlete an will blow up this spring an summer.5'10 185 safety and runningback 10.6 100 meters.Last year alone WOS fielded these dbs on a 3A team. Travon Blanchard (Baylor signee) Jmarcus Rhodes (SMU signee) Quentin Tezeno (Utep signee) Colin Janice ( Arkansas State signee) Deionte Thompson (2015 Bama commit) Chris James (2014 Iowa State commit)

2006 Deon Beasley

Awesome list.  So who will go down as the greatest Earl Thomas or Kevin Smith?
Posted
Great group of athletes that have been coming through. I think Earl will end up having a great career and probably better stats. Some will probably argue Smith had the better career because he won the big one (as HS and Pros), but I would gladly be as good as either :)

Didn't he start at safety for Ozen last year? It's hard to start for WOS when he's on Ozen's football team.

Started maybe 5 games for Ozen then transfered to WOS for the rest of the season. Had to sit out 15 days while at that time coaches told him he wouldn't see the field unless he took someone's spot. The point is 6FBS DB's on one 3A team is amazing imo.

I heard he transferred a week before the Silsbee game. And he was a two year starter for Ozen.

I'm a little bit 'old school' so maybe someone can explain how these things work these days.  What does it mean when someone says '2015 commit'?  There is no guarantee that the current coaching staff, Bama in this case, will still be there.  But let's say they still are there, is this anything more than a current Bama coach showing an interest, indirectly I hope for NCAA rules sake, and the student/athlete reciprocating that interest.  I'm not knocking these kids at all and I agree that the number of quality athletes on one team at a small school is amazing.  I'm just trying to understand how recruiting works these days.  I hear about 8th graders being offered scholarships and it doesn't make sense with the high turnover rate of college coaches.  Anyway, congrats to these local athletes.  I think that's awesome.

I agree. You are old school. Recruiting has changed a lot. And it's probably safe to say that you don't have kids that play high school football. Today, colleges have the benefit of watching more high school film than they ever have. They look at a kid, like what they see and recruit him based on his upside. They offer based on how the kid could fit the scheme they run. Of course there is no guarantee that the staff will be there 2 years from now, but during the recruiting process you weigh all options. Coaches know that.

He left Ozen after the LCM game. That's seven games including four district games. He started at Safety  as sophomore which is another thirteen games. That's twenty varsity games in an Ozen uniform. He played seventh and eighth grade football at Odom. Sounds like Beaumont nurtured his talent and is now letting Orange borrow him to me.

What's funny is you have said he didn't get on the field for WOS. So what footage are the Iowa State coaches using to judge his talent on?
The footage from Beaumont Ozen. Congrats on the scholarship Chris.

All these kids played DB for WOS pretty impressive for a school with less then 700 Kids in the entire school.

Idk what the exact date was but he only played in one district game for Ozen
Then on top of that he's from Orange we let Ozen borrow him.

Beaumont nurtured his talent lmao. Yeah ok. All Beaumont nurtures is BUST in college.  Kid didn't get a  offer till he came to WOS. Go check out rivals.com WOS is DBHS as far as all the scouts are concerned.

He's from Orange Texas like I said we let Beaumont borrow him he came home and got his scholarship. He'll tell you out his own mouth where the real football players are. WOS

What's funny is you have said he didn't get on the field for WOS. So what footage are the Iowa State coaches using to judge his talent on?
The footage from Beaumont Ozen. Congrats on the scholarship Chris.

With all do respect to the great program that west orange has, thats pretty much kind of a slap in the face to the ozen secondary coach who im sure spent more time with chris james in 3 years than his short time at west orange.. i'll go as far as saying that west orange got a pretty well polished player who was actually having a good season as a panther before he ever stepped foot in mustang land

Check our DB list and check Ozens matter of fact the rest of the states. We lead 5A-1A in DBs put in college since 2006. Obviously we are doing something others aren't. Are back ups are getting scholarships before their senior year. Do some research.

Adding to what a poster asked/said about early recruitment, I have a few issues with it myself. Well, maybe not as much issues as concerns. Ive noticed over the last few years that sometimes these kids that already commit to College or university being underclassmen have a tendency to have a "big head" mentality on the field. in some cases, Ive seen it disrupt the teamwork during a game. I guess Im kind of "old school" also when I believe it should wait untill your senior year to commit/sign a scholarship. I know many of you have seen what I am talking about. Frankly, it makes me sick seeing some of the cocky "swagger", if that is what it would be called, on the field looking like a spoiled brat. Now there are exceptions to the rule, but more often than not they seem to not care about the season at hand or being a team player and more about "look at me, Im the guy going to whateverU next season" and I dont have to hustle or care. With that said, this has nothing to do with Mr. James, the topic just raised something that has been on my mind for a while. I was told that he is a very diciplined individual and a great leader. Congrats to the kid.
